Lunch menu items range from 6.75 — 7.25 and include a soup and chips. I went with the Chick Ta Chien I believe and would say it was pretty good. Would have preferred more peppers and less celery and personally I wasn’t a fan of the spongy type mushrooms but I don’t like mushrooms much as it is. The dish was actually spicy which is nice for a change, all in all it was pretty good.

We have looked and looked for a good Chinese restaurant. Finally!!! Not fabulous but the best so far in the Union Essex county area. Delightful staff, beautiful upscale décor, and the food is really good!!!

UNDERRATED– big time. Swung by for a quick hot and sour soup adventure, and ended up getting a little Teriyaki stick of beef as well. The hot and sour soup was delicious — among the best I’ve had. Really thick, which is how I prefer that soup to be. I think a very liquid-y hot and sour isn’t that too, so this place got that right. However, it wasn’t as sour as I’d hoped, but as it went on, the taste was very good. The teriyaki sticks weren’t bad — dry, though. I was hoping to get some beef sticks that looked freshly glazed with a nice marinade, but instead, got a nicely flavored, dry version. It wasn’t bad, but I would’ve loved a wet version. I also asked for teriyaki sauce on the side, and they«didn’t have it.» Kind of weird… All and all, $ 13 for a lunch meal? Not shabby.

I discovered Szechuan Delight Restaurant on Unilocal and was pleasantly surprised. The atmosphere is a little like a step back in time, but in a good way. The restaurant is spacious and comfortable. There is a variety of seating arrangements and the facilities are clean and well maintained. The staff is friendly, courteous and helpful. I have enjoyed their renditions of some of my favorites, Cold Spiced Sesame Noodles, Barbecued Spareribs, Eggplant with Garlic Sauce, and Shredded Beef with Garlic Sauce. The dishes are medium spicy and just right for my taste. There is ample free parking and the setting is not your average shopping mall. It’s family friendly and accessible. Well recommended.

We’ve been going to Szechaun Delight for years and find that it is consistently our favorite go-to place for chinese take out. Definitely a step above others in the area. Though the inside is a bit dated, its very clean. The crispy shredded beef with hot sesame sauce is not to be missed.

We’ve only ordered take-out but it’s our go-to place. Order the filet of sole with blackbean sauce off the Cantonese menu — it’s delicious. The pan-fried noodle(Cantonese menu) is also great. I find this place to be less greasy than other Chinese restaurants.

A Cantonese restaurant with a Szechuan Name. Food is good, and service is friendly. When ordering the pick-up, the order will be ready very soon.

I lived near this restaurant for a long time before I tried it, as I used to go to waterlillies in Summit. Waterlillies changed owners and the food suffered, so we started using China Fan. At the request of a friend, who orders exclusively from the Chinese menu, I tried Szechuan Delight and haven’t looked back. I order from the Americanized menu and enjoy their food very much, it reminds my more of NYC style Chinese food. The dumplings are great, and have never really been disappointed with anything over the last few years.

I love the peaking pork chops, they have some of the best Chinese food in the area. Also their rice cakes are delicious and can be ordered with pork, chicken, or beef. Highly recommend trying their food!

It’s the best most consistent Chinese food in the area! We mostly do take-out and the service is fast fast! We only ate in once maybe twice and the service was slow. This review is for take-out. We always get the chicken with broccoli and shrimp fried rice. The chicken and broccoli is very good and is typically very fresh and flavorful. The shrimp fried rice is awesome, plenty of shrimp and fresh onions. The egg roles are crispy and hot. Haven’t really order much of anything else but I am sure looking forward to trying other items when the mood strikes me. I like the fact that when you order the food is ready in like 10 minutes and it’s hot. Friendly take-out service.

I discovered this place in a strip mall where I usually shop for my fresh produce. I figured I would give it a chance since it’s really convenient for my weekly shopping. I got something simple — house special lo mein. It’s on the expensive side for lo mein, but I don’t mind paying a bit more for better quality. Unfortunately, this was mediocre at best. In fact, considering that there was basically a huge container of noodles with VERYLITTLE meat or shrimp mixed in, it was a HUGE disappointment. I specifically paid more for the«house special», but barely even noticed the few tiny shrimp and the small pieces of almost indistinguishable skinny tidbits of meat. There was not even the usual veggies mixed in. Why is it so difficult to find decent chinese food in these areas? There are so many other places to get mediocre chinese food — much cheaper than this place — I won’t be back.

I’ve only had take out but it’s proved to be the best I’ve had in the area. The wonton soup, lo mein and orange beef are good. They have one or two lamb dishes and I intend to try them. You get tea and fortune cookies with your order and they are pretty quick. So at present my Chinese to go to. Better I think than China Fan.

Good Chinese food, not the best(compared to nyc) but definitely above average for the area. I have been here a couple of times. The price is ok and the portions for the meat dishes are pretty decent sized. They get pretty good business which ensures fresher food. I have had ribs with peking sauce here as well as salt and pepper ribs. The flavor was good for both though it seemed there was a bit too much batter around the meat. The crispy pan fried beef noodles had a delicious, fresh taste though the portion was a touch small. The food is served quite fast after you order. The service is not the most attentive(both times I went our waiter never checked on us after we received our food) but when we did interact they were pleasant enough. My impression was that the menu is a bit more limited here compared to Jade Isle in Scotch Plains but the food here tasted fresher than at Jade.

The food is very average, some things are better than others. I find it pretty bland so I always ask for hot sauce. BUT can’t beat that lunch special. $ 6 for soup+entrée. Service is not as horrendous as your avg Chinese restaurant, they do a good job(usually) of getting your group in and out in a reasonable amount of time.

This is the best Chinese restaurant in the area hands down. It definitely deserves a higher star rating than it is currently receiving. Chinese people, like me, actually eat here. They have a 2nd menu that has all the Cantonese specialties and it is in English. Some of my personal favorites are Buddhist rolls, seafood pan fried Cantonese noodles, velvet chicken with spinach and their casseroles are pretty amazing. If you order in advance, you can also get Peking duck which is wonderful.

Great food and service. We dine here a lot for special occasions. We had our wedding rehearsal dinner here and the owner Danny always takes care of us. I’d recommend the Cold Sesame Noodles, Scallion Pancake and Mongolian Beef. They also make their fried rice on the darker side, which is how I like it.

Great food, great service, and the ambiance is not too high-class but also not a dive. We went there in memory of my uncle, as it was one of his favorite restaurants. It wasn’t too busy(lunch hour during the weekday), and the staff went out of their way to make sure that we were comfortable. They did a great job making food recommendations and even changed the music to a beautiful piano rendition of Amazing Grace.* The food was excellent. The(American) fried chip/noodles in duck sauce were super crisp and yummy. They also brought out pickled veggies while we wait for the soup. — The seafood soup with tofu was plentiful. We got 3 orders of the«soup for 2» to be shared by 7 people. There was more than enough for everyone to have a large bowl and then a few more bowls. — The fried snow pea sprouts were deliciously crisp and beautifully seasoned. — The Beijing spare ribs were well fried and the sauce was great. — The silken fried tofu was perfectly fried: really crisp on the outside and silken on the inside. — The Beef with special sauce(sorry, I don’t know what the dish was called), was amazingly tender and had a very slight bite/heat to the sauce. It went great with the rice. — The(coconut/mayo) coated shrimp with walnuts used really large shrimp, and were not overcooked. The flavor of the sauce was also very good. — The chicken with dried salted fish and tofu was not my favorite dish, but everyone else at the table seemed to love it. — The seafood medley was good and used fresh ingredients and didn’t skimp on the seafood quantity or quality. — I never actually got to the shredded beef, as there was too much food and too many choices, but people seemed to like it too. The service, as I mentioned, was excellent. The owner/manager stopped by several times during our meal to let us know that they’d be happy to help with any requests that we may have. I asked for the fried noodle snacks to be packed up so I could bring it home, and they said not to worry, they’ll pack me a new/fresh one. While the overall price of the dishes here is not cheap** when compared side by side to the hole-in-the-wall takeout places***, the quality is definite several steps above most of the Chinese restaurants I’ve been to, and I would highly recommend coming here if you’re ever in the area. — — — — — — — – * I should note that it’s possible that part of the excellent service was due to the fact that almost everyone spoke Chinese there, but I can’t imagine the friendly servers being rude to anyone, so I’m sure you’ll still get amazing service, regardless. ** About $ 10-$ 13 per dish *** About $ 8-$ 12 per dish

Went here for lunch a few days ago. Service is bad like they always are at Chinese lunch spots. They are looking to rush you out. Food comes out in a jiffy which is the hook for a quick lunch. Food wasn’t that bad. Had the steamed chicken and broccoli(went healthy for like a day…) with brown rice. Came with wonton soup(not so healthy). Order took about 10 mins to get, 8 minutes to eat and 30 seconds to pay as the waiter stands around you as you are eating your last grain of rice. They have good lunch prices as well. Worth a stop in for lunch. ENJOY!

We come here any time we have a special occasion and want something a little special. Their seafood is great — very fresh and lots of preparation options. They also serve several different varieties of Chinese vegetables, not just the standard«American» stuff like broccoli and snow peas. I highly recommend the Mongolian beef(it’s fun to listen to the sizzle as they prepare it tableside) as well as the steamed sea bass. We’ve never been disappointed with either of these dishes, and we have had them dozens of times over the years.

Good Chinese for the money. This restaurant reminds me of the one in «A Christmas Story». Big and Empty… but then again we came in for an early dinner in the middle of the week. Egg drop soup — perfectly made with swirley egg drop. Chow mein special — loaded with all the goodies like shrimp, chicken, snow peas, carrots, bell peppers. All tossed in a hot wok, I am sure. Shrimp in Black bean sauce — This is one Chinese staple I cannot live without. Black bean sauce is just the bomb. It has big flavor for such a little bean. WIth lotsa bell peppers and onions. All this tasted great with brown rice. Jasmine tea Good food for cold weather.
