I am one of the many unfortunate women in the world to have a condition known as Interstitial Cystitis. For those of you who don’t know what it is… keep walking. No mind. But, for those of you who do and were looking for a doctor to treat it?
You have stumbled onto the right Unilocaler.
My bladder is as useless as boobies on a bull. It’s been a problematic organ in my body for a LONG, long time due to this disease and for those of you who know what IC and what it progresses into is all about? Then you know how hard it is to find a doctor that even knows what it is, let alone how to treat it.
Dr. Ramon Perez-​Marrero, is literally responsible for saving my life. An early diagnosis that included a horrible case of endometriosis as well as IC was made quickly and efficiently. He teamed up with my OB/​GYN to make sure that my VERY necessary surgery in October was done swiftly and safely. The man wasted no time in getting together all my doctors to work together as a team to make sure my diagnosis was well managed and I got the care that I needed immediately. He manages my weekly care along with his amazing staff. His nurse, Susie, does my weekly infusions and she is just the bomb. She is very caring, absolutely a delight to talk to and makes me feel very comfortable even in the most uncomfortable situations.
Normally, when I do my Unilocal reviews, I make a lot of jokes and use a great deal of snark and humor. I can’t do that here, because this man and his staff literally saved me from a lifetime of pain and far worse consequence. I am so grateful to him and his staff for knowing the problem, diagnosing it quickly and making sure I am ALWAYS seen on time. It is a very rare moment that you ever have to wait in his office for longer than 15 minutes. They are VERY conscious of the fact that most patients are in pain and have to come in with full bladders (hey, it IS a urology center… there has to be a little urine talk. It’s to be expected. Grow up.)
They take most insurances and unlike many doctors offices they are amazing at putting through your claims. With all the worry and distress that this disease has caused me, the last thing I needed to do was deal with my insurance company. I have not even seen a bill come through yet. His team is just THAT efficient.
They have other locations as well. I have seen several of the other doctors but my heart will always be with Dr. Perez who said to me, «I know what this is, and I know how to help you.» My eyes still fill with tears when I remember that moment, because it was one of the most important conversations of my life.
Dr. Perez is very well educated in the area of women’s health having published articles on IC and other women’s sexual health issues.
For women struggling with IC, bladder cancer, Overactive bladder, Urinary incontinence, etc., don’t let it ruin or even steal your life the way it had done to me for so long before I was finally diagnosed. I had one great year of remission before it came back again… but I know that with Dr. Perez and his team behind me and caring for me, I am hopeful for a better year and a positive outcome.
I STRONGLY recommend this doctor. As a retired nurse myself, I can tell you that he is one of the most thorough, respectful and caring doctors I have ever gone to or worked for. He treats women with so much respect, compassion and kindness… a very rare thing in urology, where most doctors are more concerned with making penises and prostates happy. We with girly parts usually get lost in the crowd. Not here and not by him. I adore Dr. Perez and you will too.
