The food here is so good! It’s not table service. You order at the front counter and they call you when the food is ready. The interior is really nice. Food is super fresh and very delicious! Portions are an average size, filling but not excessive. I’d recommend it to anyone.

I love Main Course’s food. I’m a huge fan of their salads. However, sometimes the people working the counter are less than friendly. There is a particular young lady who I often am helped by who barely says hello or you’re welcome. I’ve never seen her smile which is unfortunate. I’m happy to pay for really good food, even though you’re not coming to the table with food, please smile when serving customers, it goes a long way.

I love this place, although it can be very pricey. The food is freshly and expertly prepared, creative and delicious. I love the build-your-salad option so I can get exactly what I want. I just wish they had table service — to me that is a downside. I was a fan when they were at their prior location which had table service. i was a regular there when I worked in New Paltz and it was a popular place to have lunch, and business lunches. I hear they are fantastic caterers too!

It kinda’ looks like a Starbucks inside. Place your order at the register and grab a seat, they’ll softly call your name when it’s ready. From what I understand, most(if not all) of the food is locally sourced and organic. Because of this, their ‘specials’ menu is as big as the regular menu. Prices seem reasonable and everything I’ve had was yummy and quite hardy. Crispy eggplant panini is a standout, for sure. Tons of vegetarian options, and they also do a lot of catering, FYI. Service seems a bit unorganized, but they’re usually quite busy. Recommended.

I stumbled across this cute restaurant when looking for potential lunch spots after a hike up near Mohonk Mountain House. I’m SO glad I did-though driving by it looks like it’s only a takeout/catering business, there is plenty of seating inside. You walk up to the counter and order from a menu of delicious sounding salads, sandwiches, and entrees. Everything looked delicious, so we ordered, took a seat, and waited for our name to be called! Between the two others I was with, we ordered the special winter salad(roasted brussels sprouts, pomegranate seeds, pears, cheese), quiche, and a custom salad. It was all so fresh and perfectly proportioned. We loved the atmosphere and food so much that we returned two hours later for coffee, cake, and cookies. The pear frangipane tarte was PERFECT. I highly recommend this cute little spot for lunch or dinner. The staff was so friendly, the food was all made to order, the prices were incredibly reasonable, and the restaurant itself was cozy and cute. Considering how impressed we were with Main Course, my group will definitely be keeping this place in mind for catering parties in the future.

So many delicious options! A tad pricey, though. They have good vegetarian options but it is a limited amount.

Food is good. Like the concept. Hate the counter service, and you’d better order everything you want as soon as you get here because they cash out their drawer promptly at closing. Also, why am I being asked to tip if it’s strictly counter service? Are they only paid the tipped minimum wage?

The staff was so rude and uninterested in answering the most basic questions. They were cold and not helpful. I will not come back here because of the two women behind the counter– just not nice The food is very good. The owner has taken a lot of care in creating a great menu in a beautiful restaurant. I can’t imagine why he/she doesn’t hire nicer people I looked at other reviews and saw that many others have had the same experience with the staff.

Love the food here. It’s light, fresh and(mostly) healthy. You might wait a while for your food if you stop in during the busier hours. The only thing I noticed is the people that work there aren’t that friendly. No one seems to want to be there and it’s a little off putting. I’m not just talking about one day. It seems like every time I’ve stopped in everyone is having a bad day.

I have been there 2 times. The first visit about 2 months ago — We waited a bit but it was not as bad as our second visit. I felt bad for our friend that was with us– his cod dinner was the same price as the ½ chicken entrée my husband had and the piece of cod was about the size of a business card. The cheesecake was bland and so was the coconut cake. But I liked the dining concept and except for my husbands sweet potatoes, the entrée food tasted fresh. All in all it was okay and figured we would try it again. Our visit the other day was horrible. We waited almost 45 mins for our food. It was boxed up to go even though we were dining in. I got the hanger steak sandwich– the meat was chewy, had probably a whole onion on it to make up for the smear of mushroom paste? that was on it. My husband had the eggplant sandwich and said that wasn’t worth the money either.(BTW-The potato salad should be labeled as a SPICY potato salad.) The worst part of our visit? The staff was RUDE. We are up at the Gunks almost every weekend during the season. And this place will no longer get our business.

Main Course has lots going for it. It’s pretty inexpensive, reasonably quick, easily accessible off the NYS Thruway, and it has a diverse menu. There are lots of little kitchen gadgets available for purchase, as well as some pre-made dinners. For dine-in, you grab a clipboard with a menu and place an order up front. Then, you find a table in the adorable seating area and wait for your name to be called. This is my second time dining here, and the food just wasn’t as good this time around. I had a bite of the create your own chopped salad here and it was beyond delicious. I am not a big salad fan, but the ingredients were super fresh and the portion was large. For my lunch, I ordered the hanger steak sandwich($ 10.65) with roasted onions, melted cheddar, and portobello mushroom hash. I love steak so naturally I enjoyed the sandwich. The sandwich is good, but the potato salad I got with it was really bland. The potato salad looks amazing, but it leaves much to be desired. I threw some hot sauce on it which really kicked it up a notch. I dipped the sandwich in the hot sauce as well, which made it taste even better as well. I also tried to grilled cheese and the blackened chicken sandwich. The grilled cheese would be much better if it were on a thinner bread. The blackened chicken sandwich was bland. The madeleine cookie I had for desert was bland as well. I will stop here again, and I hope Main Course gets an additional star next time.

This place is really cute! Love the ambiance. I cant really say much about service since this is a self serve kind of place. Food was good, fresh, and reasonably priced. Would come back again for a quick bite!

I love their«farm to table» business vision. Everything here is organic including their teas are also from local tea businesses. Gluten-free options available for those of you with celiac-scares. With that said. The ambiance is quiet and quaint. Large tables available to seat large families. Small tables in the main dining room. They also offer outdoor seating when the weather warms up. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Service can be a bit slow at times but I have yet to have any complaints. I honestly wouldn’t mind giving them extra time for their effort in getting every order out while ensuring every patron feels welcomed there.

A great casual trustworthy place — good atmosphere, friendly staff, and really really good food! We had the short ribs with Brussels sprouts & smashed potatoes and a nice big chopped salad. Everything tastes fresh. Our daughter had the Mac & Cheese kids meal. She loved it, though we thought it was a little bland(but I suppose kids like that kind of thing! :) We stopped here passing through town, but if we lived here we would certainly become regulars here very quickly!

A solid four stars for Main Course. Nice place, very relaxed, and quality food made from local ingredients. Have been here for both dinner and Sunday brunch(the only day they open before 11am), and it is a solid mix of restaurant and coffee shop feel. Food presents some interesting combos(pear-apple dumpling, cheese/ham/apple omelet) and some solid comfort food(lamb chops with butternut and veg stir fry and mashed potatoes or mushroom risotto, chicken salad with candied walnuts, union strings, radish and vinegarette). Price is right at $ 8 – 15 per entrée with sides. Ambiance is open but not intimate. A but of something missing to get to 5 stars, though. The quality of food leaves something to improve upon. It’s great food, but the taste is just a bit of flavour and uniqueness away from excellence. Worth your visit absolutely, though. One of the better places to visit when coming through New Paltz.

I was here few months ago with my besties. Coming from the wineries we Were driving around when we ended up here. Also For there was a parking spot in front. Plus The place seems decent and cozy. The only thing I saw a mother changing diaper on an infant directly on top of the dining table. Well children are a priority tho. Besides they have a clean rest room. The staff were great and friendly. The food seemed fresh and delicious. It was appetizing. I had the great time here. The food isn’t pricey. Very reasonable. The eggplant panini was impressive. If I’ll be driving towards that way. I’ll find myself here more often.

Great fresh food at reasonable prices. Came with a friend for lunch ended up having a delicious tartine and getting a bunch of things to take home too. The menu had so many tasty options and in addition they have daily specials. They also have lots of gourmet salads and other items to go including baked goods like scones cookies and brownies. Everything on display looked amazing! Took home an herb and cheddar scone and also an order of potato latkies that were incredible The person handling the register was a little scattered and actually had a hard time filling my order to go. He sent he on my way and then realized he forgot something. He gave it too me but then he actually forgot something else in my order, which I didn’t realize until I got home and unpacked my bag. This is why they lost a star. Will definitely be back though. Just be careful to check your bag when you leave

It’s a very nice place with a ‘farm to table’ concept. Ingredients are fresh and had good portions. Prices were reasonable. It’s a quiet and cozy place, small art gallery feeling into it. Lots of photographs are decorating around the dining area which I thought was very nice. I had flank steak panini, had great texture but taste was very bland. Eggplant panini was good, so does the salmon salad. Vegetables were fresh crisp. It’s BYOB. It’s a great option to dine out around this area. My meal was fresh and very healthy. Street parking and small parking space in the side.
