Fantastic assortment of knick knocks for home, work, and kids. Stuff you never knew existed but once you see it you immediately feel that you can’t live without it. Great place to pop in and have some fun browsing. Also perfect for gifts.

Never judge a business by its storefront. From the outside, Cocoon doesn’t look like anything special, and is actually fairly easy to overlook whilst taking a walk down Main Street. I’m sure many people have made the mistake of walking past this hidden gem without even realizing they had done so. Head inside and refrain from becoming just another overlooker in the Town of New Paltz. You won’t be the least bit disappointed. Cocoon is filled with a ton of random whozits and whatzits. The entire store is basically filled with somebody’s quirky Pinterest Board… and I absolutely love it. Here you can find Karma Checks, hanging fishbowls, Adult Mad Libs, and so much more. If you’re looking for all things random and awesome, look no further than Cocoon. I probably could have spent all of my money in this store. However, I ended up spending none of it. Cocoon is filled with a ton of crazy things, including their price tags. Every single time I picked something up I would put it back down after seeing the cost. The keychain telling me to «carpe that fucking diem» would have most definitely been mine if it had cost a reasonable two or three dollars instead of six. I also would have walked away with an adorable inspirational quote covered zipper pouch if it was even just $ 10 cheaper than what it was selling for. All in all, Cocoon is an awesome place to browse around if you like the quirky and weird. Just make sure you bring a ton of money with you; you’re going to need it just to buy a keychain.

Every jaunty I make to New Paltz is certain to include a stop in this fabulous shop. They have what is stylish and unique for the home, mind and bod if not for oneself then for an amazing hostess or just because gift. I purchased a bottle opener there once for a friend who had recently married and she acted as if it had come in a little robin blue box… that is happiness! Their selection of scented candles is wide and their depth of kitchen ware cannot be beat in New, old Paltz or any Paltz for that matter. There was this book on eggs… Feel free, lol. With something you never realized you just had to have, Cocoon is aptly named and just the place to awaken the creative and inspired in us all. The lady who owns it is approachable and friendly and has a wicked sense of humor. All good things! :)))

Just discovered this gem of a store on a recent trip to New Paltz. I could have spent hours in here, marveling over all the cool things — books, accessories, toys, jewelry, and assorted knick-knacks — that they’ve curated. On a recent trip I fell for a wool cap that will be perfect for NYC’s blustery late fall days. I am going to make a point of stopping here next time in New Paltz.

Wow! I loved this little store! I live and grew up in NYC, where«witty» trinket stores are born and die every day. They all sell the same stuff and none of it is really anything anybody wants, but we all convince ourselves that it’s great for stocking stuffers. Those stores always get described as «the perfect place to find a gift for the person who has everything!» and so we all pass around blank notebooks(destined to stay blank forever) with pretty covers or «witty» t-shirts, and write our thank-you notes politely, and hope we don’t run into each other at the Random Knick-knack Store next holiday season and spoil the(lack of) surprise. Totally not the case with this store! There was a ton of legitimately cute, good-quality stuff that I had never seen before — and there was a lot of stuff I have seen online but never in person. You know the type — the artsy, inventively useful stuff that gets featured in a whirlwind on all the design blogs and you click on the link and like it but think, «hm, maybe later,» and close the browser. I saw so much stuff I had intended to go back and buy«someday» after seeing it featured on a design blog, and I saw so much stuff that I had really never seen before but that I instantly wanted. They had legitimately good lunch and kitchen supplies, pretty home décor stuff, interesting books, baby gear, and so forth. Even their«witty t-shirt» section was legitimately funny — a rare coup, for sure! I didn’t buy anything that day because I was with someone I would be buying much of the stuff for. But I am actually scheduling a solo day trip from Manhattan to New Paltz JUST to make my purchases. I know it sounds weird to head OUTOFNYC for good shopping, but that’s how much I liked this store. I might not travel to the middle of nowhere for it, but New Paltz is a fun enough town that I can get away with pretending I’m not mostly going just to shop.
