If the staff had told me not to sleep vs what they did tell me. and that was to take lots of naps, only to have the doc come in at the end saying I was severely concussed after a knock to the head, it might have been more stars… I certainly saw more stars at the time.

Well, I had to chime in and write a review and let others know my experience here. While on vacation in Mystic from California, I had a very unfortunate experience which led me to the ER at 2:30am. First off, I was the only one there — waiting room was empty. I was admitted in about 5 minutes after giving very general information to the reception nurse. I was never pressed too hard at any time, and when they could see that I was in pain, they told me not to worry and they’d get back to me when I felt better or when I felt I could tell them more. I had never experienced such wonderful bedside manners, and all doctor’s, nurses, technicians, attending physicians were not only very professional, but very caring and sensitive. I had no issues with any of them. All tests and results were done that very same morning, and when I left I felt wonderful about the care and information that I received. They turned up the heat in my room to adjust to my comfort level, I was given warmed blankets to cover myself with, and the head doctor on duty was very respectful of my body and needs. I was never left unattended for more than 20 or 30 minutes, and the longest was during the final wrap up & check out when I was about to leave that morning. This happened to be the best experience I have had with an ER, doctor’s, nurses and hospitals, especially considering the circumstances. I will say had it not been for this place and the level of care and respect I felt while there, I would not have felt so great, and continued on to have a wonderful vacation in beautiful Mystic. Thank you to the staff there for setting a precedence on caring for your patients.

While it is difficult to feel good service at any ER, luckily most of the times I have come here have been not due to life threatening emergencies. I am gouing to focus on the Maternity wing. My then wife and I went here twice for both of our kids and I feel that the staff had a lot of compassion and made us feel very welcome. She was assisted in the delivery by her gynecologist and midwife, however, the nursing staff provided us with every confort possible, and made our stay complain free. The cafeteria is also pretty goood, no complaints from that.

If your not gravely Ill when you arrive, you will be. I’d think very long & hard about your other choices, before going to L&M. They are understaffed and incompetent. I wouldn’t go there to have my toe nails cut!

Most of the reviews here talk about the long wait time at the emergency room, and they ain’t kiddin’. You don’t only wait for initial treatment, but once you’re finally seen in the most cursory examination imaginable, they tuck you away into a corner for several hours. My doctor wasn’t exactly forthcoming with information, either; most of what I learned about my case, I learned from straining to eavesdrop on his conversation with the nurse, but he didn’t tell me most of this when he actually spoke with me. As for getting my records, it’s been a nightmare. While still at the hospital, I requested that the information be sent to my primary care physician. Of course, she never got it, and then when she called the hospital, she couldn’t get in touch with Medical Records, who never even picked up the phone. Then I tried. After being transferred to the wrong department MULTIPLE times, I finally got Medical Records, who claimed(in a very rude manner, I might add) that they never received a request to send my information.

This is the first time I’ve ever had to wait in an emergency room when I could hardly breathe. I was finally sent through triage(where they checked my oxygen saturation level) over an hour after I checked in. I was having difficulty breathing, difficulty speaking and could not stand up without bracing myself against something. If an asthmatic having a severe asthma attack does not constitute a good enough emergency to push somebody else back 10 minutes in order to check vitals, I don’t know what will work other than blood spewing forth from your orifices(at least, I hope that would work). I am in the process of filing a complaint. ***side note, once I was finally given the opportunity to be seen by a doctor, I was helped very proficiently by a courteous staff. The problem was solely in the check-in/triage process. Consider yourself warned.

We’d heard some bad things, but it’s not nearly as bad as some people have said. We thought everybody was great and it’s probably the best you’ll find unless you go to Hartford or New Haven.

The worst hospital I’ve ever encountered, avoid it at all costs. If you must go here be prepared to spend hours and hours waiting.
