Great dive atmosphere. Had a fried shrimp/catfish po-boy which was excellent. High expectations for seafood gumbo, huge let down. Barely any flavor and all I saw in it was popcorn sized shrimp… lost stars for this. It was surprising given some of the other reviews… maybe it was an off day. I do appreciate that the rice was a separate add-in. Would I go back??? Yes for sure, but not for the gumbo.

Great PoBoy! Really the shrimp PoBoy is some of the best I’ve had and the catfish is usually cooked to perfection.

Great lunch place! Good service and a good atmosphere for lunch … The menu selection was typical for a sandwich shop in South Louisiana …

Food is always consistently good but never great. The portion are fare for the price. I would rather eat the plate lunches or the Sunday BBQ.

Stopped through on our motorcycle trip. I’m so glad I saw this place on Unilocal!Delicious!!! Looks like a dive on the outside but the décor inside is all Louisiana charm. Such a nice staff and the gumbo was amazing! The red beans and rice with sausage were so good as well! I hope we can come back

Never having been in Louisiana, our family that lives there took us on a tour to Avery Island. After a nice tour, our cousin Googled a place to eat and happened upon this place. At first we where taken aback at the exterior, but decided to stick it out and try it. Where we ever glad we did. The 5 adults in our part enjoyed every bit of our food. If we are ever in this area again, we will sure stop in again.

Good sandwiches at a decent price. One’s enough for two. Not stellar though. Yet probably the best roast beef poboy in the area. Check out the plethora of hot sauces and be sure to try them all. If you don’t have one you like, well, you’re in the wrong part of Louisiana.

The food is excellent but here’s the deal and I’m going to start in right away before I lose any readers the ridiculous packaging has to go. I can’t give anybody more than 3 stars for being lazy and careless when it comes to styrofoam and plastic. You should see the gigantic pile of waste as you head out of this restaurant. Everything is served in styrofoam and plastic. They have a huge kitchen. Save yourself some money, give the landfill a break, get some cheap dinnerware and a dishwasher. I know we’re in the land of ecoterrorists as every other business is oil related but you could make an effort. There’s no excuse for this nonsense in this century. It was really annoying to try to cut my fried pork chop in a styrofoam clam with your tiny plastic fork and knife. It was almost impossible and I ended up picking up the chop dripping with red beans and making a mess. The food was very good. I had the Monday special. Red beans and rice with your choice of sausage or a fried pork chop, corn bread and banana pudding. The red beans and rice was good, pork chop was a little tough but tasty, corn bread was moist and a little sweet and the banana pudding wasn’t entirely home made. I think the pudding was banana boxed pudding with banana flavoring. I wasn’t impressed. Lunch was a good value. I like the place well enough but can’t endorse this. There’s a really highly rated cafeteria downtown I think I will try next time. I looked in the window and they all had real forks and knives.

Drab windowless building, easily overlooked, no clue to the excellent food you’ll find on the cafeteria tables inside. I came here on the Tabasco tasting tour, and we had samples of gumbo: chicken/sausage and seafood. Both excellent, lighter and tastier than the burnt-tasting gumbos you get at Creole restaurants in New Orleans. I liked the seafood version best.

Look if you’re in the area and you don’t stop by here you are plain missing the best thing in New Iberia. My girlfriend and I thought it was extremely sketch when we first pulled up after seeing it in the local travel magazine, but once we hashed it out for a minute we went in. THANKGODWEDID! Seriously my new favorite restaurant since I moved to the area. Walking into a cinder block building may seem less than appealing, but it’s always what’s on the inside that counts right? The old time lunch counter is situated as you walk in decorated in traditional Louisiana fashion. As you walk up to the counter you look around the corner to see a more than spacious seat yourself dining area. They have daily plate lunch specials as well as seasonal items that usually appear around crawfish season I’m an avid po-boy enthusiast and I have to say they are about tied with my favorite place in all of Lousiana… or anywhere for that matter. The kitchen prepares your meal as you order it, and you can see everything going on from the dining room. I’ve tried most the stuff on the menu at this point and have to say you really can’t go wrong. I literally always hated potato salad before this place, but after my girlfriend got me to try some of hers I now have found another taste to add to my palate. Prices aren’t too bad but I have to say the po boys aren’t cheap, but well worth what that cost as everyone of them is known for being overstuffed. At about 250 lbs and an appetite for a guy about twice my size, even I am more then full walking away after a shrimp po boy. If you have the opportunity DON’T MISSIT! PS Try not to miss their weekend BBQ

GOODGOLLYMISSMOLLY! I SOOOOENJOY going to the NO because I KNOW I’ll get to eat GOODSOUTHERNFOOD like there is NO tomorrow. I NEVER eat from any place I that we have in Cali because what’s the point? Plus I don’t eat out too much while I’m here cause my fam and my friends fam is usually cooking for us. And ya’ll KNOW home cookin is the BOMB-A-LICIOUS and even better than I could get in the streets! I’m always surprised I don’t come back weighing 300 pounds! I had been given a few orders to bring back POBOYS! So I went to the source(my besty) that lives in the area and asked where I could get GOODPOBOYS! He didn’t even have to think about it. He replied… hands down BONCREOLE in the Berry. That New Iberia for the rest of you. SO before I fly out we drove here for lunch and so I could place my order. We drive up and the parking lot is baby butt tiny and PACKED to the gills. Several po-po had just finished up and were leaving but for ever parking sport they had someone took as they left. Luckily for me I managed to snag the last one right in front. We walk in and there are only a few peeps in line. I glance at the menu even though I already know what I want just to make sure I don’t miss anything yummy I want to order to take back with me. They have just about everything… Frog legs… check, po boys, check, oysters check, gumbo and red beans and rice… check. Plus they do burgers and fries and drinks. They also do a daily plate special which is a GREATDEAL and comes out quickly if’in your in a hurry. LOL! I order a 6 inch grilled po boy with cheese and bacon no tomato with a drink for my lunch. Then I ordered one 12 inch fried shrimp po boy all the fixins’, one 12 inch fried oyster po boy all the fixins, my friend ordered a 12 inch fried shrimp po boy with all the fixins’ and French fries and a drink. We got our drinks and went to find a seat and was able to score the last table. You’d think this place was HUGH inside right? WORNG! It’s NOT. There is one medium sized room with tables and chairs and a smaller room in the back with some tables. Most are community tables but they fill up quickly with large groups but if there is a seat or two available the friendly peeps of in the Berry don’t mind sharing. They also have some single tables as well but like I said seating is a premium and peeps DON’T mind standing and waiting for a table and chair to become available. Once your order is ready they HOLLER your name at the top of their lungs so you can«COMEANDGETIT». All food comes out in a bag and they have utensil, napkins and salad dressing in packets for you to select from. I thought the salad dressing in packets on the side was as awesome idea. That way all they have to do is make the salad and you can select your own dressing or mix and match! My POBOY was SLAPYOMOMMAGOOD! My eyes rolled back into my head like I was having a seizure. I was having a mouth orgasm and a «When Harry Met Sally» moment through my entire meal. So FRICKINSCRUM-DILLY-UMPTOUS! Shrimp pouring out they give you SOOOMANY! NOTLIKE here in Cali where they give you 5 mini shrimp and then have the nerve to cut those in half and put on a sand for you. NOBUENO! You could have made two sands with all the shrimp they give you. OMG! There is NOONE to clean up after you but that’s ok because there is an unwritten rule to NOTBE A MISS or MRSLOPPYPIG! EVERYONECLEANSUPAFTERTHEMSELVES and leaves the tables NICE and CLEAN! There are several large trash cans for you to put your trash in and they make sure they don’t overflow which is GREAT! I’m going BACKOFCOURSE later this year so I will be hitting this place up YETAGAIN! And that is how you do a POBOY in the BERRY!

Crazy great food! I have special diet needs and they took care of everything for me the chef even came out called me Mr. Randy and took the time to probe and discover my knees when it came to my diet. seafood gumbo was amazing very fresh definitely made the same day. Because they gave me a time and extra so very nice couldn’t give this place a higher recommendation

Is the food good? YES! Is it really good? YES! Is it good enough to overlook crappy service, shoddy facilities, and general lack of caring? NO! Look, I love the dodgy dive place as much as the next guy, and for the sake of awesome food and drink, will often overlook much that is not-so-awesome about a place. In this case, the food was delicious, but did not outshine everything else. By «everything else», I mean rude service, a dirty and understaffed restaurant, and absolutely everything in styrofoam, even when it’s «for here»…really? I know this ain’t California, but c’mon people, it’s still the United States in 2014, can we at least a token amount of effort here for the environment? Jeez… That said, my shrimp was really tasty and fresh. Good enough to merit 2 stars on their own. The fries, salad, and roll it came with were weak, but OK. I won’t make a return trip, there’s plenty of other great seafood in the area…

I don’t go to New Iberia often, but I was in the area, and wanted to try this place out. The staff was nice and this place can get pretty pack. A hole in the wall with a whole bunch of cajun and country décor everywhere. We had the following: — Plate lunch — Dirty rice, baked chicken, string beans, garlic bread, & yellow cake — delicious and very well seasoned — Shrimp Po-boy w/fries — decent po-boy, I would just stick to the plate lunches I would come here again for the plate lunches.
