Emma Witmer… what a woman! Full of live, character, knowledge and can quilt!!! We stopped in on a whim just to look around and left with two gorgeous antique quilts. With everything that she has in the shop it was very hard to make a decision, but with the information that she was able to provide to go along with the antique quilts we were sold. We purchased one 1880’s era Capital T black and red wool quilt and one 1850’s era Drunkard’s Path. She is a wealth of knowledge and knows her quilts, from Lancaster Blue to Watermelon Pink!!! We will be back to do some Christmas and Birthday shopping as she has available reasonably priced wall hangers, spiced pot mats, etc.

I’ve lived in Lancaster County for over 40 years and have always wanted a locally made quilt. Finally I went on a recommendation to Emma Witmer’s shop and picked out a Mariners Star quilt in beautiful blues and burgundy. She had so many to choose from and it was fun flipping through all of them laid out one on top of the other. Considering the work that goes into them I felt the price was fair. I just know I wan’t another.

I love this quilt shop. Emma Witmer is knowledgeable, friendly, and provides great advice for selecting a quilt. My friends and I went there to buy a quilt in 2011 and I returned this May to buy another! The prices are reasonable for the handcrafted quilts.

I cannot say enough good things about Witmer Quilts. I stopped in during a weekend get away. The amount of quilts is overwhelming. So many patterns — so many sizes! The quilts are not cheap — the queen size appliquéd quilts will run you between $ 600 and $ 800, but they are so well worth it. The quality is impeccable. Not only did the owner let me look through every design, she mailed the quilt to me. I just paid postage. I received the quilt the next day. I will definitely be back!

if you come to lancaster to buy a quilt and go to one of the tourist hubs, you are wrong. not only will you be over-charged, you won’t get the story and design history that comes with the quilt your buying. in it’s stead, i found witmer quilts. it’s run out of a home by an engaging mennonite lady, emma witmer. upon entering you realize your surrounded by hundreds of pieces of art containing hopes, dreams, heartaches and joy. emma can actually stand there and tell you how many cloth pieces are sewed into most of the quilts and all of the quilts she sells are made by women in the local mennonite/amish communities. yes fellow Unilocalers, you will not find a «made in china» tag. she also does something very special, she signs/dates each one, solidifying it as a piece of art. they’re large, so my pictures don’t capture the entire quilt… but more will give you an idea of some of what she has to offer… i do want to point out the sunflower quilt. 2-mentally challenged young ladies in the local community sew the borders. because of their challenges, they prefer working with cloth that has whimsical patterns as it keeps them engaged. i purchased this quilt because a young ladies challenges were put aside to bring beauty into the world. how many of us can say we did that today?
