I had great time here over the past few years. The staff in the restaurant are all very nice people from Taiwan. Actually the restaurant has a lot more varieties of food than the menu shows. It also has great parking places and delivery options. Also the food is much less oily compared to many other Chinese restaurants in the region. The description of Royal Palace is a bit misleading because it is not really Szechuan food though it can make Szechuan food. It is a combination of food from Taiwan, Fujian and Guangdong but not Szechuan.

I simply LOVE this place! I have told so many people about Royal Palace with the disclaimer, «once you go Royal Palace, you never go back.» I love that they have two different menus to accomidate us Americans but I love trying options from both. When you dine in the staff is friendly and the owner is more than happy to make recommendations. I was not a big fan of Chinese food until I found this place and now I have frequent cravings.

Here’s the thing. I order delivery from this place a lot because they are close and it’s convenient. Yet, time after time I’m disappointed. Their delivery is not quick and their food is just okay. As others have said, the food is hit or miss. I’ve ordered to-go from in the restaurant before as well. One of my favorite dishes, honey walnut prawns, they do not do well here at all. I’ve found another local Chinese delivery that is fast, and consistently better tasting.

really, really awful. over salty food, bits of metal wire in the noodles, spring roll was still frozen inside. If it was absurdly cheap I wouldn’t have minded so much, but it wasn’t even that cheap.

Would give zero stars if I could. Ordered Taiwanese fried chicken(a lightly fried medley of salted and peppered diced chicken breast), received strong assurances of a similar dish, and got a dish that was composed of the worst rejected pieces of chicken(bones only) possible. Atrocious, and I swear to never visit the ‘Royal’ Palace, ever, regardless of the positive reviews it otherwise receives.

There are somethings that all twenty-somethings need: a 401k; at least one college degree; a boozy, Sunday-brunch spot; and a go-to, delivery Chinese joint. The latter doesn’t have to be great. It just has to not suck. It’s for those Friday nights when you want to watch HBOGo and enjoy not having kids. It’s the place that allows you to settle down without descending into wearing-sweatpants-to-WalMart depths. It’s good – boilerplate but good. It pairs well with a ten-dollar bottle of wine and a pint of Ben and Jerry’s.

«I don wan business from you» said the manager who messed up my order. Luckily I bought with a 3rd party. How can you read a paper that says«No vegetables» everywhere… Every where, yet the order has it everywhere. Edit: They lied and told the 3rd party I only returned ½ of the order. WOW… so close to doing a chargeback but the 3rd party knew they were bs’n.

The delivery time for the order was good and the food seemed fresh. However, the food was poorly seasoned. The General Tso’s chicken had very little sauce, the broccoli was boiled but not at all seasoned, and the spice level of the meal was very low. Chinese delivery options in New Haven are all below average but the flavoring of this food was the worst I have experienced.

Impressive Sichuan food with a rustic edge. I only one ate one meal here so I can’t attest to the Cantonese or American style Chinese food but the beef with water and the pork celery stir fry were excellent and interesting and the woman who runs the place is delightful

Went here for vday — very nice experience. I ordered tofu and veggies with dumplings. Both were delicious. Mai Tais were a nice treat as well. My BF and I were so stuffed at the end!

I started by ordering the steamed pork dumplings off the American menu. Yes there are two menus. One is american and one is more traditional. The American menu’s dumplings are thicker skinned but delicious. The only down-side is that the dumplings were smaller than average(mini dumplings). Insert joke about size here. From the Chinese menu I ordered the water chicken. I had never heard of water chicken before this point but the rave reviews inspired me to try it. I was disappointed by the amount of time it took to come out, considering that i was one of three people in the restaurant. When it did arrive it was a fearsome sight: a massive bowl of peppers floating in an angry red liquid with the occasional piece of succulent chicken surfacing from the depths. Okay, I’m being over-dramatic, but it looked really really spicy… so…naturally, I dug in. The chicken was tender, the vegetables were flavorful, and the sauce was uneventful. No really, it was like a mildly peppery(as in black pepper) gravy with chicken and vegetables. It was yummy, it hit the spot, but it wasn’t spicy. Overall, Royal Palace is A-OK. Interesting menu, decent prices, friendly staff, but nothing to write home about.

Royal Palace not so Royal! Where’s the flavor? Ordered sweet and sour chicken, sesame chicken, chicken fried rice and egg drop soup. We were informed that nothing came with the main entrée. Come to find out white rice came with it. Additionally, we received a side of steamed broccoli. The sweet and sour sauce was thin and less than flavorful. The sesame chicken had no heat to it at all. I have never in my life used duck sauce, soy sauce or any other sauce offering other than sweet and sour sauce. However, I found myself trying to flavor my food. The Chicken fried rice tastes like soy sauce. The egg drop soup had a black/greenish egg in it… We decided we had enough!!! Will never ever order from this place again!!!

Solid Chinese delivery. The service was prompt, and the order was accurate. They only give you one spring roll, and while it says(1) the picture has two of them. Tasty spring roll tho(4⁄5). Scallion pancakes were the star of the night(5⁄5). The general tso’s chicken used surprisingly decent meat for Chinese takeout(4⁄5) and the fried rice was solid(4⁄5). The fried prawns were terrible, fried too long, and overpriced(2⁄5). I’ll definitely be ordering again. Solid(American) Chinese delivery.

Ordered online to have it delivered through Grubhub. It arrived about an hour late. To their defense, they claimed that had a huge party order before us. But when you have a potential new big customer, delivering our food an hour late for a lunch interview is just a big no no. Our interviewee didn’t even eat lunch! You may as well as kiss that customer good-bye because there’s no way we can use this place for any future company luncheons. The food. We ordered an assortment of dishes. eggplant with garlic. seafood hot and sour soup. kung pao chicken. yang chow fried rice. general tso’s sesame chicken. sauteed cumin beef. boneless ribs. everything was cook as well as it should be expected when you considered it was delivered. However, there were two dishes that they completely missed seasoning — yang chow fried rice and seafood hot and sour soup. Yang chow fried rice they were missing salt because it tasted like plain white rice. Hot and sour soup they missed the salt and the vinegar because it tasted like water. the chief must have been asleep on these two dishes. 2⁄5 stars is pretty generous considering the service i got. i’m willing to try them again if the opportunity arrives. but this place will not be on the top of my list of chinese restaurants in new haven. It’s a shame because this place is one of the few that actually delivers in the new haven area.

So much food in the fridge– so little energy to cook it. To satisfy our meat and veggie craving, we went for Chinese takeout and saw that Royal Palace had some of the most decent reviews on Unilocal we’ve seen for Chinese food. We were attracted to the Chef Specialties on the takeout menu on Unilocal and were delighted to find that they deliver! The takeout experience however was a bit dismal. We spent $ 40(we were hungry ok) and didn’t get the house special fried rice we ordered, and found lo mein instead. The dumplings were also tough and the filling was dry and sort of reminded me of those seasoning packets inside packages of ramen(what, you never tried those?). The Triple Delight was definitely delightful– that sauce is awesome! But the Moo Shu Pork… that was the biggest disappointment. I think we got two or three bites in until we determined that the aroma was just off. Our meal topped off with a very sad fortune cookie with a typo. My quest to find good Chinese takeout continues.

I’ve been searching for authentic Chinese food in New Haven for three years. I was really excited to see some of my favorite dishes on their menu — spicy beef tendon, salt and pepper chicken, Chinese eggplant, and water spinach. I gave it a shot and Royal Palace did not disappoint. While I won’t say that this is the best food i’ve ever had, its the best Chinese food I’ve had in New Haven. I will definitely be ordering again. Bonus points for prompt and friendly delivery.

My first and last time here. It took 20 minutes for my friends’ food and 30 minutes for my Singapore noodles. Do not order them! You can get better from an Annie Chun’s DIY kit. And the shrimp were microscopic! As an added bonus we were there for so long that the Café Nine show we went to New Haven to see was filled to capacity and we couldn’t get in.

I had a family dinner there last Sat. night and I have to give this restaurant a rave review because we all had a wonderful experience, everything from the service, to the food quality/quantity, and pricing are very satisfactory. We happened to talk to the owner/boss when looking over the menu, asked for his recommendations and that was a great idea. The owner is an experienced restauranteur for over 30 years and he inquired about our preferences and specific needs and gave us some suggestions, all of them turned out really well. Not to mention the very reasonable pricing on all the dishes. We were very happy with the quality and quantity of the food choices. The serving staff even came to ask for our preference regarding when to serve the dishes and in which order. We were all happily stuffed at the end and left the place with a big smile on our faces. One can tell that it’s an authentic Chinese restaurant, judging by the number of Chinese/Asian dinners. [ that’s the rule I use for gauging Indian/Korean/Japanese places too. ] Another convenient thing is that they have a bar right by the entrance, which as a non drinking Asian person I completely overlooked.(was never in the habit of ordering alcohol or soda) And most smaller Asian establishments near me just don’t carry alcohol(maybe due to the liquor license thing?) But it’s CONVENIENT to have that bar there for my family members to order beer/wine/etc. The setup here is very clean and they have reasonable spacious table setups. The scrolls of Chinese calligraphy and paintings on the wall adds to the dining experience. Overall, we are pretty happy with all aspects of the dining experience here. Would definitely come back again. In fact, I know some of my family members are already thinking about it. =)
