I love P&M. I live across the street and stop in here for something almost every day. They have pretty much anything. It might be a little more expensive than going to the grocery store, but I like it because it’s convenient. Their staff is really nice!

Ordered an International Cheese Platter at $ 40 and was very disappointed! The platter looked like it should have been $ 15 and the quality and taste was horrible. The platter had small pieces of cheese diced in tiny cubes that smelled like feet along with STALE crackers!!! I bought this platter to a social event & mostly all the guests commented on how horrible it was! What an embarrassment and waste of money!

Absolutely the worst out there in customer service. Phoned in a lunch order for co workers nearly $ 50 in sandwiches, 2 co workers opened their cheeseburger orders only to find no meat at all apparently the sandwiches got wrapped before the burgers were placed in. I called back in and explained what happened and the«owner» returned my call only to accuse me of trying to get a free lunch and lying. Now mind you, my work group orders out nearly every day, spending anywhere from $ 45 to $ 100 each time, often at this very market so to be treated in such crude and miserly fashion was and remains a total shock. The best in the business go out of their way to correct or make up for their errors, this owner and this market fail miserably. Take my advise, go a few blocks up the road to Nica’s, you won’t regret it I assure you.

Realllllly long wait for a sandwich. Nearly every time. That’s what prompted me to write this review. When something is a repeat occurrence, it makes it difficult to appreciate all of the other redeeming things about this place – like the good quality of the food and the pleasant outdoor seating. I actually timed it the last time I was here and it took 20 minutes for an turkey/egg/cheese. When we finally got it, it also turned out to be wrong(ham instead of turkey). I’m starting to suspect under-staffing. But there weren’t really that many people there to warrant a 20 minute wait. Hmm.

Good spot and good location for people in the area… But i triple dog dare you to order the same thing twice and get it the same each time. Also — «I’d like a bacon egg and cheese with double the bacon and salt pepper ketchup»… I got egg and cheese with less bacon than normal and no salt pepper ketchup. That aside it’s a pretty decent spot.

Always friendly and a great selection of whatever I need to pick up to make dinner last minute! Everything you’d like your neighborhood market to be.

Many years ago when I lived in New Haven I would go to a place similar to this to get my eggplant grinders. I loved this little market and the staff. We ordered a bunch of sandwiches for my family and even received an «out of towners» discount. Great prices and large portions. Also, they have a large grocery selection as well. My sister lives near here and I look forward to returning on my next visit home. Great vibe here.

An old college roommate turned me on to P&M and he was one of the pickiest ppl I’ve ever met so I knew if he liked it, it had to be good. Always a line to expect to wait a little big stick in there, always worth it. Small market items for light shopping. Warm and cold subs, breakfast and lunch. Great place and plus who doesn’t love a cappuccino for checking in.

Great neighborhood place to get a good bite. I ordered sandwiches for lunch and then couldn’t pick them up. I called to let them know after they had already made the sandwiches. The owner called me back, which frustrated me at first because I felt bad that I canceled the order. He could not sell the sandwiches. He put them in the refrigerator and I pick them up later. I was frustrated with my mistake but they were great. There are several shops like this on Orange St., this one I would recommend.

I order from here a lot but often times the order is wrong. The convenience of them delivering keeps our office going back here. Good Italian combo subs and the Chicken Flag a la P&M with chicken cutlet, eggplant, and mozarella is delicious.

P&M is a super handy, local market. Prices are a little higher than a super chain, but they don’t compromise on quality or stock. There have been plenty of times I’ve run in for some cheese, tomato, bread, or chocolate — all major necessities — and run over here. The people who work here have also been very nice, though I haven’t been too demanding of a patron in the past.

A few months ago, my friend and I were leaving a neonatal clinical and heading home, when we decided we were hungry for lunch. She had been to P&M before and had great things to say about the food. I ordered and sandwich and found it to be delightful. While it wasn’t earth-shattering amazingness, it was quite delicious for a relatively good price. Verdict: Would come here again for freshly made, hand-made sandwiches.

I would love to have a neighborhood market just like this one within walking distance to where I live. We stopped in to get some local ice cream and found the store unassuming and simple on the outside, but oh so impressive on the inside. The prepared deli foods aroma made us hungry though we had just finished lunch. The bakery products were also so very tempting. Everything you might want to have for snacks, meals, and general supplies in one stop.

We are very fortunate in East Rock– this is an excellent small market, as are Romeo’s and Nica’s. Given limited square footage, each specializes, rightly so. P & M has a terrific baker and a fine butcher. They have fresh fish daily and the guys behind the prepared-foods counter are wonderfully courteous.

Fantastic and proper Italian subs and other delicious treats. My sister lives close by and we walked here multiple days while I was visiting. They have an enormous, almost overwhelming, menu and everything is super fresh. The sandwiches are huge and can easily be shared or saved for 2nd lunch. I had a very flavorful prosciutto, fresh mozzarella and basil with olive oil grinder — so tasty. The chicken salad was made fresh and I tried that too(on another visit) — and it did not disappoint. They also had some decadent truffles that my dad was partial to ordering every time we went. There is a great outdoor seating area(weather permitting) and a cool neighborhood feel. Love this place!

I love this market. The sandwich selection is huge and overall the feel of the place is great. You can grab your food and enjoy it at the tables outside. I prefer it to Nica’s and the other markets in the area.

P&M is our main convenience store for supplementing our weekly shop. They have a great deal of foods and drinks packed into the place. The meat counter is worth going in for alone. They have a really good selection to choose from ranging from your stewing meats, sausages, bacon all the way out there to rabbit!!! The prices of the meat aren’t ridiculous and another bonus is that the place always looks clean. The veg and fruit also always looks great but is a little on the pricier side. They sell dessert like cakes and the ones we’ve tried always taste incredible. They also sell ice cream which they scoop for you, we only tried it once but I wasn’t the biggest fan. The seating outside is brilliant in the spring, summer, autumn time. You can meet your mates and have a chinwag whilst enjoying one of the many great sandwiches from the store.

Of the Orange Street Markets, this is my go-to for any kind of last minute meat. This is what makes P&M four stars. WAY better meat selection that the other two. For everything else, I prefer the others since they are a bit cheaper with more selection. Especially the fruits and veggies — I find that the selection isfresher with more options at Nica’s/Romeo and Ceasers

There are three main Italian deli’s on Orange St and I’ve been a loyal Nica’s man throughout my 4 year tenure living here in New Haven. But P&M’s has won me over when it comes to lunch sandwiches due to their superior end product. I’m an Italian combo kind of guy and I order it pretty much every time I go to any deli to figure out if they can do this classic justice. Those of you seasoned Italian combo superfans like me know that Vito’s deli near the New Haven Green makes a really great one, but they are only open during lunch on weekdays so for the weekend warrior looking to load up on a hearty salted meat sammich, P&M’s is your spot. P&M’s combo has ham, salami, provolone, capiccola, pepperoni and if you want to load it up with hot peppers and onions at no extra charge(both sandwiches are $ 7 for the sub version) you can order the Italian Bomb like I do. While Nica’s is known for their panini’s, P&M can hang right with them with theirs. I can speak to the Manfro, which has grilled chicken, fresh roasted red peppers, balsamic & prosciutto and the Portebello(grilled portabellos, red peppers, gorgonzola, mescaline) which are both cruchy, savory, and delicious. This is the deli of choice by local cops and firemen and you will often see them occupying many of the numerous outdoor patio tables in front. Plus there’s a liquor store right next door and they’ll turn a blind eye if you want to pop open a bottle of chilled white wine to sip on while taking in the sun and people watching in East Rock.
