The name is very fitting as you’ll find some rare gems in this place — I just picked up a Vin de Savoie and a 100% cab franc from Bordeaux — both extremely hard to find! What I really loved about this place however was the owner — so incredibly nice and friendly! He was very consultative and was really enthusiastic about wine, but not pretentious or snooty. Nothing makes me happier than shopping for wine in a store owned by a fellow wine nerd! Love it! If wine isn’t necessarily your thing, know that they also offer some great beers and spirits. In particular I noticed that they have quite the bourbon/whiskey/rye selection — always a plus in my book! The selection may be smaller than that of the Wine Thief, but again, more rare gems and IMO, better customer service. I will definitely be back the next time I’m in New Haven and in need of a unique wine!

I love this place. Part of it has to do with it’s ultra convenient location. The other part has to do with the prices and selection. Oddbins clearly does their homework in trying to bring out a baseline of solid tasting wines. You can walk away with a nice tasting bottle of wine without spending more than 12 bucks! Plus their staff is great. They’re very friendly and want to guide you to the right bottle of wine(or beer or liquor). They seem genuine in this, which I think brings back repeat customers. Bottom line is that I’m just happy this place exists. Come here to get a well priced wine and an overall very positive buying experience.

Friendly guy(the owner, I think). However, I’m not sure whether this is the normal practice or whether it was just that I wasn’t as well-dressed as the other customer in front of me who wore a suit. The guy(owner, I think) did gift wrapping for that customer in a careful way; for me, however, it was more of a haphazard gift wrapping. This was a few days before Christmas 2013.

Trying to find my favorite California wine in New Haven was a challenge. I basically called 15 wine shops and non of them carried it. Called this one and they happily ordered it for me and picked it up in 2 days. Im glad I found this place and finally know where to get my bottle of wine!

This is a wine and liquor store plain and simple, but what’s not so plain and not so simple for me is that they sell sake, soju, and plum wine. I have trouble finding these at other stores around town and so these guys are the first ones I go to to get the good stuff. Plus, the owner seems to be pretty relaxed and joked around with me after he carded me and I told him I was a 90 year old man with depends and a knack for falling asleep while people talk to me. Anyhoo, go here for asian booze. :)

They have a great selection of wines and beers. The manager is a knowledgeable wine enthusiast. You can trust his instinct for a bottle. I am always satisfied. If you have special needs, he will order the bottles for you. I also really like the selection of Belgium beers. It is great to find both yellow and red Grimbergen beers. They do not seem to apply any discount.

This is a great store with a wide selection and price range. The owner is friendly and knowledgeable without coming across as snooty or overbearing. There are usually several bins toward the front of the store in the $ 10 – 15 range with descriptions, meal pairing suggestions, and store recommendations. I find these really useful when I just want to pick up something good and reasonably priced for dinner at a friend’s house.

All I really want from a wine shop is an attendant who will point me to good affordable wines and occasionally re-explain what«dry» means. Odd Bins delivers the goods every time. Also reminds me of the UK chain, but this place is much friendlier.
