so sad… but what happens to the groupons people bought for an event!?!

Cover — $ 15 a head with a 2 item minimum per person. I don’t like minimums. Will we probably order that anyway? Sure. But forcing me to do it irks me. What if I just want to support a comedian and have a beer? I have to buy 2 for everyone that comes with me? Food — I ordered nachos. They were pretty awful, with stale chips and fried chicken. Who does fried chicken on nachos? They cost $ 13. Easily the worst part of the night. We sent half back for the garbage. Drinks — $ 6 bottles of beer. Yeah. $ 6. Comedy — Pretty solid. No qualms here. It a probably dependent on who’s on the billing. All in all, the drinks were way over priced, there was a cover(which luckily I got past free) of $ 15 a head, and the $ 13 nachos were worse than bad. I can’t recommend anything but the comedy. Go on a Wednesday when beer is $ 3 and try to get in free. But then again, on Wednesday its random open mic night. Anyway, if you can take advantage of free tickets, or half priced beer, go, just don’t order the nachos. If it’s full price everything, stay at home.

i went on a Wednesday night for open mic night. Some of the comedians were hilarious while others were just awkward… But honestly it’s still a great time just watching them make fools of themselves. It’s awesome to see everyone there supporting each other. My only complaint was that the bar tender that night might have been borderline retarded, i’m not sure though. i ordered a regular coke because i had to drive & i was there to support the comedians, a regular coke was $ 3 in a small glass with mostly ice cubes, that was weird. The manager was awesome, he really went out of his way to make sure our friends were having a good time & would come back. Tip: don’t sit up front unless you’re prepared to get roasted on.

We went to the comedy show Saturday for the first show. They had three funny comedians, which was enjoyable. We ordered tickets online but learned it’s better to just call and make a reservation over phone to save on service fees. Not many healthy food options but they did allow us to convert the chicken sandwich into a delicious salad!

Very nice place, staff and comedians were amazing! The food and drink menu(5Star). I loved the patio in back, and how the comedians hung out with customers after the show. This place has a true VIP feel to it.

This place was so much fun! Found it through living social and took a chance since there were mixed reviews. It’s really small inside so you are right next to whoever is performing and it allows for so much audience participation. They have tables big enough for large or small groups, no bad seat in the place. I was shocked at how cute the place was after seeing some of the reviews here. The host who sat us and the waiter were super nice. As for the food, we only had onion rings, but they were good! Drinks were delicious. Such a fun night out! Definitely coming back to Joker’s Wild.

Been here twice the last time being New Year’s Eve, always have a great time & the comedians were very funny both times. I’m looking forward to go back again in the very near future. Definitely a great place to go to for great laughs & drinks instead of going out to the same local bar. An adding bonus is they seem to always have Groupons every time I check.

Went there last night with a group of friends. 1) Our Waiter was not very pleasant. He came off agitated that my friends wanted to know prices of the drinks they were purchasing. A no-no in servicing people who are tipping you. 2) The buffalo wings I ordered were below par. Kinda dry not a lot of meat. 3) The host was not funny at all. The 1 act had a couple decent jokes but really not overall too good. The last two acts were very enjoyable. 4) Our server may have purposely attempted to overcharge us. The reason being is he manually records what we ordered and how much it was on a sheet of paper and adds it up, at the end. We totaled the items on our bill it was about $ 85 but somehow our waiter got $ 127. When we asked him to fix it he was quick, punching it all in his iphone. Which leads me to think how does he mess up a bill by 50% when he just showed me to my face he can use technology to get the right bill in under 5 seconds. I think he knew what he was doing. 5) Either way average acts, mehhh food, and an unpleasant and untrustworthy waiter lead to 2 star experience. At least my company was good.

Comedy clubs are really in a category all their own-yes, they’re dirty, seating is beyond tight, and service can be touch and go, but once you accept that and just focus on the comedy Joker’s Wild is a New Haven gem. I didn’t expect much when I went to the bar but I was happy to discover a great selection of bottled beer at $ 5 each plus a great beer special if you are into miller high life. Even more surprising was their open mic night. Of course I went in expecting a train wreck but that’s not at all what it was like. There were several people I’d pay to see and hardly anybody that was really horrible. The host did a great job of keeping it moving… I have a feeling that the«five minute» time limit is pretty flexible depending on how you are doing which is a great idea. The venue is small and New Haven isn’t NYC so big names don’t come often, but when they do expect an intimate show with good beer and a reasonable cover.

Some great headliners recently. All the up and coming acts. I saw Ted Alexandro, Mark Normand and Mike Hanley over the last couple months and they were all great. I recommend the Lobster Roll weekend special.

I don’t know why people are so down on Joker’s Wild. We saw great comedians last night with the hilarious Kevin Fitzgerald as headliner. Yes, there’s a two purchase minimum and that includes food, not just drinks. We had sweet and spicy calamari, which were heavily mixed in with sliced peppers but still really good– better than average bar food. Someone in our party had the lobster roll and raced about it. Our waitress came by about 10 times, and was quick with drinks, which were not diluted, and the Coke was actual coke, not something generic as other reviews say(I’m a bit of a soda connoisseur). I was nervous to come here because of the bad reviews, but I don’t have a bad thing to say. The bar was busy but not packed and everyone seemed to be having a good time. I’ll say that I can see how some of the tables can be set up better because the chairs are too close back to back, but otherwise great place!

Good comedians but the drinks were WEAK and very expensive. They even watered down my glass of wine! Who does that?

I’m bumping up my star rating to a 4. I actually got a message from the owner after my last visit and 3 star review, with an apology for the things I complained about and inviting me back to give them another shot. I actually wasn’t expecting much of an improvement, to be honest, but to my surprise, I was wrong. I was thrilled to see the comedian Godfrey headlining there. He is one of the best comedians out there and I was willing to pay the $ 20 ticket price and try to utilize their Unilocal check in offer to get half off. I lucked out and got a text(being part of their VIP mobile club which I joined the last time I was there) with an offer for 4 free tickets! I invited my sister and brother in law as I knew they would enjoy Godfrey, too. I found the staff pleasant, attentive and professional(huge improvement from the last time), mixed drink selection good and made strong(I had a tropical/fruity rum-punch type drink) and the nachos we all shared were yummy, made with breaded chicken and all the standard toppings. Their menu is relatively smallish/basic with mostly appetizers. All in all, a much improved experience that will bring me back again in the future!

I bought a groupon for this place but i wish they told me it was a two drink min. per person in the party and that most drinks are 8 – 10 dollars. Then on top of that they add the tip. Which was not deserved when we placed our order she came back with the wrong food and drinks. She clearly didnt pay attention to what we ordered. Then good luck getting the check we had to wait for awhile when i said to put it in the card she came back and said what did you want again? The one good thing i can say was the comedy was entertaining.

Jokers Wild great. Most of the time u will see local comedians that put on a great show. They r very attentive to the service needs of their customers and make sure u have a great experience when ur with them. The only people no have is if u are one of the unlucky one to pay the full $ 18.00 admission ticket price u should not have to buy the 2 drink minimum. Sign up for their email and text updates and u will randomly receive updates to shows with free tickets included. Great local place to have a great time with friends and the food is pretty good to.,

Comedians are hit or miss. We had 3 misses and 1 huge hit that made the night worthwhile. Don’t plan to eat dinner there. The food is frozen garbage re-heated in a microwave or deep fryer.

I give Joker’s wild three stars. I’ve been there twice. The first time a few months ago was a packed house with a very funny main act who played off the audience. My recent visit a few nights ago was two stars. The AC went off so it was nasty hot. The crowd was small and rude, heckling the acts. The comedians ranges fro the headliner who was OK to a warm up act who was not good. I’ve concluded that one’s experience at a comedy club will range, depending on the crowd and acts. Oh, and there’s a two drink minimum in addition to the admission fee.

I’ve been to The Joker’s Wild a few times now and it’s overall a fun evening out. The club itself is on the small side so it can definitely be a little crowded and loud. It’s probably best to buy your tickets in advance to make sure you’ll be able to sit. The parking situation around New Haven is pretty impossible if you don’t get into the attached lot so I would definitely plan on erring toward being early, if possible. The food/drink menu is limited to pretty standard bar fare and priced a little higher than you would probably expect to pay for the quality and service you get. The servers have to navigate around a lot of pretty packed tables to get to you so things can be a little slow. Nothing I’ve ever had is bad, but I wouldn’t come back if it were just a restaurant. The star, here, though is the show. The club has two shows per night, one starting at around 7:00 and the other at 10:00 and boasts a pretty good rotation of comedians. There are almost always giveaways and specials to get more people in the doors so the crowd is usually large, diverse and interactive. Almost every time I’ve been there at least one person in my group has gotten a call a few days later for free tickets for a future weekend. If you’re in the New Haven area and looking for a comedy show in particular or just something to change up your weekend, definitely look into it.
