Stayed in the Farnam Room and had an excellent time. The bed was incredibly comfortable(I actually checked the label on the sheets and comforter so I could purchase the same kind for my home) and I felt more privacy than expected considering how many people this bed and breakfast can accommodate. Breakfast was buffet style; it was very nice and they were kind enough to prepare fresh eggs and toast for us when the portions were running low. The house and neighborhood were beautiful and set me at ease. I was in town for a conference and didn’t think I would have a chance to relax, but my stay at the Farnam House made my short visit to New Haven a mini-vacation.

My friend and I stayed two nights at the Farnam Guest House recently and had a lovely time. The house is beautiful and well maintained. Breakfast was delicious and we had very interesting conversations with other guests. Elizabeth, the owner, was friendly and provided folks with suggestions for excellent places to eat — we were sorry that we didn’t have time to check them out ourselves. Elizabeth also provided us with tips on getting into NYC and suggested some sites we might enjoy. The front living room had a computer and printer which we used to check in with the airline and print our boarding passes. Parking was no problem. I would definitely stay there again!

Pros: — My girlfriend LOVED the house and how our room looked. — If you have a small enough car, and if giant SUVs haven’t blocked you out, you might be able to park at the front door. — There are some cookies, Hershey chocolates, candies, and tea available 24⁄7 in the dining room. That was a nice touch. — We met a few interesting guests at breakfast. Cons: — My girlfriend couldn’t sleep(didn’t like the bed) and moved to a trundle bed. — There are not individual thermostats for each room; the manager sets one temperature for the whole house. Our room was too hot in June. — It doesn’t feel as private as hotels or other accommodations, so we found ourselves whispering and not letting loose even within our own room. — The manager of the place seemed far less warm and welcoming than I anticipated and didn’t seem to really enjoy her job. — The(maid?) who cooked breakfast and ran our credit card(to pay for the night) was friendly enough but barely spoke English and seemed nervous and tried to have as little interaction with customers as possible. — Breakfast was pancakes, a few pieces of fruit, juice, coffee, and tea. I expected better(maybe eggs, potatoes, pastries, etc). — It’s not very walkable to places(e.g. to go grab a drink or dessert before bed). — It’s an old house, so the floors are creaky and the hot water takes about two minutes to warm up. — You need to be sure to book a room that has a bathroom; some require you to use a bathroom in a hallway.

The Farnham guest house is one of the best around! If you are looking for a place that is comfortable, beautiful, relaxing, and fairly priced then this is the bed & breakfast for you! The location is ideal in relation to the downtown New Haven area. Elizabeth and her staff will take wonderful care of you and your family, so make your reservation here the next time you stop in New Haven!

Is there a way to give this place ZERO stars! This place is in the GHETTO! You drive through scaryville for over ten minutes and then get to this house. The owner is completely rude! The guests that were staying here wouldn’t open the door for us b/c they were scared too! The guests asked the owner where a save place to eat was at! They were in town to watch a tennis tournament so everywhere else was apparently booked. She was soooo rude to the guest too, it was unreal. I am telling anyone who is from a NICECLEANSAFE environment DONOTCOMEHERE!!! She tells me well I am still going to have to charge your card! I had to argue with her! Then she still charges my card $ 25! THISPLACEISIN A SUPERSHADY/SCARY NEIGHBORHOOD! Do not stay here!

My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights this past weekend and the experience was A-MA-ZING! We were so sad to leave! We stayed in the room with the fireplace. This room also has a private bathroom, but it’s in the hallway. A sign says no one except our room can use it. We checked out all the other rooms and they were all unique and beautiful. The breakfast was great too — had egg omelette and croissant the first morning and sunny side up eggs, sausauge and waffles the next morning. Loved the comfy, homey feel of the place. We also loved how close this B&B is to Yale University. Heather recommended nearby sites to see and we were thankful she did because one of the places she recommended — East Rock — was beautiful. We had a little trouble with getting internet — it was really slow. We also wish there were instructions on how to work the fireplace. But overall, the experience was so great! We can’t wait to go back!

Stayed here with 2 friends for my college reunion. One of my classmates had food restrictions, and the owner, Elizabeth, was very accommodating. This is a bed and breakfast, and had coffee and tea available at other times. Our room had a big King Bed and a Twin Trundle Bed. Both were very comfortable. Nice alternative to college dorms for us. There are several parking spots in the circular drive(which we were always able to use) and otherwise you can park on the street.
