Great little bar in new haven. Felix and Nick has always greeted me with a smile and lots of laughs. Recommend the nachos con pollo anytime you go there. Drinks are fairly inexpensive and its nice in the summer when the patio is open.

Steak Quesadillas were yummy! I’m only giving 3 stars because we got steak nachos and they were dry and tasteless ;(

Saturday for dinner: three diners, three different meals, all excellent: enchiladas, chicken fajitas, quesadilla.

We went on a Saturday afternoon when Yale wasn’t back in session yet. One of the members of our party ordered a fall margarita, and he noted how it had a nice smoky flavor to it. We ordered a large guacamole to start to add to our chips and salsa– the salsa has just enough kick to it. The large portion was huge so we used it not only for the chips, but for some of our other dishes as well. I ordered the tacos de bistec, choosing steak over pork for my protein. The owner was taking care of us at the bar– so I explained I like things spicy with some good flavor so he added some fresh jalapeños to the dish. Yum. I generally offer to share with my dining companions, but not this time. My husband had to sheepishly point out that I hadn’t even offered a bite of my delicious dish. I kinda didn’t want to do so — ha. I begrudgingly gave him a bite and he realized why I hadn’t previously offered. The other two people in our party ordered a dish– the name is escaping me– but it was very good. My husband had the flauta dinner and a chicken quesadilla. Everything was delicious. Honestly– we came in for the queso fundido, but they were out of chorizo. It wasn’t worth ordering without the chorizo– one of my husbands favorite dishes of all time. We haven’t been here in about a year– but honestly the food seems to have improved since we were there last. Just really flavorful and delicious. Well done!

My roommate and I have been wanting to try this place for a while. The food is terrible! The only thing we actually liked was the salsa. Chips weren’t salty. Food is bland and just off. I got the spinach enchiladas and there wasn’t even any cheese in it! The rice and beans tasted so funky. I definitely don’t recommend this place.

came in for lunch on Sunday and was warmly welcomed by Mrs. Rayas. you’re immediately met with chips and salsa — the salsa has a nice kick! it’s a family run restaurant and it is clear they take pride in feeding people delightful, not pretentious food! it was so fresh and came out piping hot. the atmosphere is inviting and cozy; the service is great and the drinks are delicious. the portions are very generous, I had to take my flavorful fajitas home. bathrooms are clean, too! definitely going back!

We stopped in for dinner while staying at the Marriot Courtyard just around the corner. We really liked this place and it was very good. Our waitress was friendly and open to all of our questions. We ordered the chicken & beef enchiladas, taco salad and fajitas. All of our dishes were really good and affordably priced. The poured a mean margarita and we left with mid-night snacks for later. We recommend this place.

This is another favorite restaurant for my family. We usually stop in for an early dinner and the restaurant is empty. This is great because we bring our toddler who wants to run around and make noise. The mexican food is great. We usually have the cheese stuffed poblano peppers. Amazing. The prices are reasonable. This is a very casual restaurant with a bar directly attached to it. I probably wouldn’t recommend it for a nice date or special dinner.

El Amigo Felix is a great neighborhood spot! I recently moved to New Haven and was searching for a good place near my home and this was it. Authentic, large portions, great service, and very tasty! We got the queso fundido for a started and they light it on fire in front of you which was cool too :) overall, great experience and I’ll be back!

One of my favorite go to Mexican joints in New England. And remember, Gringos eat at the tables, Homies at the bar(and they control the juke box). Same deal as El Ranchero in Danbury. Food is mighty tasty and straight up. Just to go on record, I sit my Caucasian butt down at the bar always and create a stir. I typically end up buying the bar regulars a pitcher of beer for my amusement. Funny mix of home slices and Eli’s.

The food was authentic and absolutely delicious. The wait staff was friendly and very accommodating. We were accompanied by someone in a wheelchair and the waitress offered to move the table and allowed us to sit wherever we’d be comfortable. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for an uncomplicated, quick and yummy meal. I will return whenever I’m in town.

FORMEREMPLOYEE! hands down the best Mexican food I’ve ever had! extremely clean kitchen and dining room. Owners were born and raised in Mexico and love their restaurant and the patrons that visit. I’ve been eating here for ten years and I’ve never been dissappointed.

Absolutely nothing fancy, but the waitstaff is always very nice and very attentive and always willing to work with you for special requests, whether it comes to the margaritas or the entrees. The food isn’t gourmet by any means but I’ve gotten quesadillas, chimis, enchiladas and dessert and I’ve never been disappointed. Portion size is always really good for the price. Perfect place for some no-frills Mexican food and a tasty margarita.

Went here with a big group of friends bc we were staying at the Courtyard Marriott. We wanted to go somewhere close and that could accommodate a table of 13. Over all, we all had a delicious meal. We payed about $ 36 per person including tip. Sounds like a lot but we ordered 4 pitchers of margaritas plus our entrees. Mango margaritas are my fav and they did not disappoint.

I’ve always wondered about this place after having seen the head-turning huge banner that says«crunk juice» near the outdoor seating area. Though I did not get said crunk juice(I didn’t see it mentioned anywhere) I was nicely surprised when I walked in. It’s actually bigger inside than it seems and feels very homey… as if you’re walking into the home of your friend named Felix. They have cute pinatas and festive Mexican décor all over. Chips and salsa are on the house and the salsa is fresh and spicy. This chips on the other hand seemed like bagged chips but hey it was free so I can’t complain. The meals were generously sized and every entrée comes with tasty rice and beans. The menu has the usual basic tex-mex items, nothing too extravagant here. We ordered the chile relleno with chicken and the sampler that comes with one burrito, taco, and enchilada. My chile relleno was STUFFED with chicken which was well cooked, not dry at all. It also came smothereddddd in delicious gooey cheese. However the pepper itself was really salty. The boy’s dish looked good too, though I felt like his taco could of used some guac or salsa. We both got maragartias and I was glad they were the traditional on the rocks kind and not the overly sugary frozen kind. I was pretty happy with them but then we got the bill we saw that they were $ 10.50 a piece. WTF at this place??? Totally unexpected. If I was looking to get a 10 buck margarita I would of went to Geronimos or somewhere in Manhattan. It was nice and strong though. We did see $ 6 miller picthers also as one of their late night specials… guess we picked the wrong drink.

Went here for dinner one day on a weeknight and had a fine time. Pros: — free chips and salsa — standard stuff was fair-priced with large portions, including guacamole and extra salsa without charge — polite and accomodating service — festive ambiance Cons: — service slightly slow, but I’m sure food was made to order — food was average and slightly overcooked, nothing phenomenal — minimum of $ 15 per credit card charge, which made it hard to split the bill — was really hoping for some fish tacos and couldn’t find any, but that’s just me — the nicer items on the menu like steak or shrimp were kind of overpriced for low-key establishment such as this Overall my experience was just fine, but it’s not really my top choice in terms of easy Mexican food in New Haven

Love the margaritas and strawberry daiquiris! They’re absolutely delicious! Other than that, the Tex-Mex food isn’t bad and definitely fills my cravings. The prices are reasonable, and the portions are huge! The atmosphere is so-so, but the service is fast and it can be a fun place to have a casual event if you want to rent out the bar and just get tons of margaritas and strawberry daiquiris, because they are absolutely yum!

Really friendly environment with great tasting food. Don’t expect a fancy place… it’s very simply decorated. Great quesadilla!
