Love this place, definitely a contender among the heavy hitters of New Haven Pizza. You have to try the pizza for yourself, I like the sausage and onion toppings… The space really isn’t meant for sitting down at, but take out is great although it’s usually on the colder side when we get home, but it still tastes amazing. This is a must try if you haven’t already

Still good and delicious all of these years later. A slice of this and a white birch soda takes me right back. The crust is crispy but not burnt to a crisp. They put the perfect amount of cheese and toppings and everything is always fresh. If you are ever in the mood for a crisp crust, this is your place.

The address of this place may read«New Haven, CT» but don’t go in expecting the Elm City’s usual transcendent pies. The crust is a little too bready, the sauce a little too sweet, the cheese not nearly gooey enough, and the toppings pedestrian at best. As a quick expedient if you don’t feel like trekking down to Wooster Street, it’s still better than any chain, and they do stock Foxon Park soda as any respectable New Haven pizza establishment must. Keep your expectations reasonable and you’ll find the pies acceptable. Just don’t make a habit of it, when you have so many world-class options downtown.

Female cashier is rude… stay away from the attitude… I wouldn’t trust their food based on her… hire new staff that actually care about how they talk to customers…

We’ve ordered a couple times from this place and This pizza is great! Great toppings too! The one problem I have is that every time I call the girl on the phone is a bit rude.

Didn’t care for the perceived rudeness from the unidentified female worker that received my order via telephone… nevertheless, the cheese pizza was great… I love thin crust pizza with just enough marinara sauce…

I live a couple of blocks away from Dayton St. and was quite happy once I discovered it for myself. The pizza is fantastic. Chicken and broccoli with Lemon wedges inside the delivery box? What? Squirt some on that slice. Mmmm. Genius… Several dollars more per pie than the average pizza joint. That’s the price of higher quality product but it is still pricey even beyond that. As far as subs go, The El panini kicks your ass from here to Whalley Ave. I went on a two month stretch where I got the El panini with Sliced Turkey added to it. Amazing. It usually comes with Fresh Mozz, Tomato, basil and some seasoning on a fresh italian sub. Add the turkey my friends. Your mouth will thank you. Then you can thank me by buying me something from Dayton Street because I ran out of money from buying things at Dayton Street. That is a compliment in case you were wondering. No sarcasm. Oh and when you order over the phone the second time they say«Hello Charles, what would you like to order?» I love it! Obv. replace my name with yours. Caller ID. Thanks technology.

Dayton Street is pretty decent pizza. I think if it wasn’t in New Haven it would be great pizza because everyone wouldnt try to compare it to the big three, etc. We have driven by here many times on our way to Ernie’s Pizza when we didnt want cross through new haven for pizza, and I heard good things so this time we stopped in. Parking lot was empty, and it felt a little bit sketchy. The restaurant was clean. Staff was friendly. Not really a big sit-down restaurant, maybe 6 small tables. Lots on the menu but we were here for pizza. They must do a crazy delivery business judging by the delivery cars queued up in the lot. if I were in delivery range this would probably be who I called when I was in a Howard Hughes mood. The small cheese pizza we had was good, crust wasnt really charred like I hoped it would be, by new haven standards it would be called undercooked, but still it was nice and thin and crisp. The tomato sauce was more like fine crushed tomatos, plain and simple with a nice freshness. cheese was also very good on the pie. not too much. not too little. not too greasy. overall this was a decent pie and it is good to know Dayton Street Apizza is here and to have one more pizza option in the area. The foxon gassosa is always good with pizza too.

Ordered a large hawaiian and some jalapeño poppers for delivery, and was told 45 – 60 minutes. Everything arrived on time, no problems there. First the poppers were delicious, with a delectable sauce, though only getting 5 for $ 7.25 seems a bit skimpy. The pizza, however, had several strikes against it. To begin with, I lifted up a slice, it sagged halfway, and the front half of the toppings slid down to the box, which is very annoying. In general, the crust-to-oil ratio was unfavorable, and I suggest planning to eat this with a fork and knife, as the slices aren’t amenable to folding, either in terms of width or structural integrity. I had to cradle the front of the slices to keep the toppings on them, which got messy. Second, the pineapple had a very weak flavor, as if it had been pulled from some can instead of a recently-cut pineapple, and the ham was not especially flavorful either. Had this been a $ 10 pizza, I’d think it was pretty good for the money, but for $ 18.25, I’m going to compare you to the higher-end. I’m only in New Haven for the week, I live in New York, and I’ve had both cheaper pizza that was just as good and gourmet pizza that was much better for the same price(though glancing over Unilocal, you all seem to have some nice pizza places here… at least I hope so).

We get pizza from here a lot because it’s one of the few places that delivers to our place out in the boonies, and it’s pretty decent. The best part about them is that they deliver Ben & Jerry’s, too. So you can sit on your couch, think, «Hmmm this is a pizza and ice cream night but I’m too lazy to hit the store» and just get BOTH delivered. It’s like heaven.

Dayton Street Apizza is actual proof that you don’t need a coal oven or a fancy smanchy italian-made wood oven to make excellent pizza. Their pizza makers make due with ordinary gas ovens. And yet their pizza has that slightly charred crust which is famous in New Haven pizza. Kudos to them for that. They get it, when it comes to charred crust. The only thing I don’t like is that the pizza does not carry much bang for your buck. Their small size pizza costs $ 10 and it’s kinda wimpy in weight. Pepe’s, by comparison, charges $ 8 for the same size and theirs is slightly more substantial in weight.

Fresh, flavorful, quality toppings: spinach and garlic, divine meatballs, «the works.» Simple, sweet sauce. A crust with big chewy bubbles and less than average char, by New Haven standards. I hate underdone pizza and this never is, but if the char on Pepe’s annoys you, you might actually prefer this apizza. And for the love of all things holy, they will deliver it to your door. Also, they are nice if you visit and they send coupons. Guys, there’s no need. I’d still call you every other week, like clockwork. But oh, it is hard to write this words: their chicken parm sandwich is only average.

Excellent New Haven style pizza. Crust is a bit thinner than some, with a buttery flavor(presumably does not really use butter, just saying). Cheese is very salty, sauce is mild.

Wish I could do 3.5 stars. Definately one of the better local pizzas I’ve had. Crust was thin, could have been crispier for my taste, but still better than most. Place was immaculate. I know it is a cliché, but you could have eaten off the floor. Only 5 small tables. Seems best for takeout or delivery. On the down side, pie seemed smaller than others I’ve had, and it seemed a little expensive. Will definitely try again.

The pizza at Dayton St. is pretty good, even by my New Haven pizza standards. It’s thin and tasty, but definitely not enough char. Although I am a Westville resident, and Dayton St. is the closest apizza to me, I really don’t go there for several reasons. 1. A number of times, it has taken way to long when I ordered to pick up. I have ordered and been told to pickup in 30 minutes, only to wait another 15 – 25 minutes for the pizza once I got there. 2. It is too expensive. Also, I don’t need an explanation about the prices of cheese going through the roof — everybody is affected by this economy. So, in the time that it takes me to order from Dayton St, drive ½ mile to pick up and return home, I can drive all the way across town, pick up the best pie in town from Modern for a much better price, and return home.

Oh, Dayton Street. I’m out here in SoCal now, frying in the Valley, but even here I can still summon up a memory of a bacon and onion pie, with just the right amount of that gorgeous Bobo’s sauce and the crust… oh the crust! What I would give for a Dayton Street pie and a bottle of birch beer right now. It’s California and they don’t understand either concept. Heathens! Infidels! I grew up in Westville, so of course it was Ernie’s for me growing up, with the occasional jaunt to Modern — which in my opinion is the only place in town that can hold a candle to Dayton Street. When Dayton Street came to town, my whole family switched its allegiance. The fact they deliver just makes it even better. They even delivered the night of a hugeass blizzard, which touched my black, black soul. I’m back in New Haven in 3 weeks and I can’t wait for a top-up. I’ll be bringing back two pies wrapped in tin foil in my suitcase for the husband and me. Nom, indeed.

I don’t quite remember how I stumbled upon Dayton Street Apizza but I’m so glad that I did. The pizza here is excellent! The crust is thin and airy, the sauce is tasty and perfect and the toppings, if you are so inclined, are plentiful. They have a cooler with Foxon Park beverages as well as Snapples and other bottled beverages. I noticed a couple at one of the tables splitting a calzone that was huge, it looked amazing, but I can never seem to get past the pizza when I’m in the area. The wait on some nights for take out can be a little on the longer side but for pizza this good I don’t mind. The staff is always friendly.
