I drove out of my way to purchase plain chocolate truffles as a gift. A nice gift box that they show on their website. I walk in to an empty shop. There were maybe 3 types of truffles. One being«Pumpkin” — Ummmmm it’s June– time to update the flavors. Maybe they were what was left over from winter. Literally 3 types of truffles and maybe 5 of each just out in the open. Nothing covering them, no showcase, nothing! I look in the case and there’s a few cupcake-like items that looked all dried up like they were sitting there for a decade. I asked the person who was working what was available and he just sat at one of the tables with his girlfriend and wasn’t attentive at all– guess I can’t blame him– I’d be embarrassed to be working there too. I asked him where I could find boxed/gift chocolate and he pointed to a little area and I walk over there and just wanted to laugh at this point. There were 4 boxes of truffles. There were ones shaped in hearts which i’m pretty sure these very well could have been from Valentine’s Day. And 2 chocolate bars were displayed as well. I can’t imagine this place being i business much longer. It was more than a disappointment– I was embarrassed for myself for even walking in there! For me not to buy any chocolate– it has got to be pretty bad!

Went here saturday night at 8pm for dessert and there was barely 3 cupcakes in the case. What a huge disappointment and I don’t think I would waste my time going back. We were so looking forward to going here too since we have been to Norwalk several times and enjoy that space. Took awhile to drive around and find parking too and New Haven is not cheap for parking. The Norwalk store is so much better.

Their cakes and truffles looked very attractive. I got a red velvet cake and caramel/sea salt chocolate mousse cake. Again, they looked very elegant and attractive. I love well-looking food! They were expensive but I wouldn’t care if they tasted good. The red velvet cake was very dry and the cream cheese frosting tasted like jus cream. I almost thought they sliced a block of cream cheese and layered between the cake. Oh! Actually if that was the case, the frosting would’ve been creamier. At least we finished the cake. The caramel/sea salt mouse was too SALTY so my husband and I couldn’t eat the quarter of it together! I was quite disappointed but maybe I’ll try one more time with their chocolates.

You’ve got to give them credit for being a cute chocolate place, the only one in New Haven, but… 1. A tad overpriced 2. The truffles that they have on display — not the melt-in-your-mouth kind. They have a relatively thick chocolate shell that’s a bit much, and the cream inside isn’t that spectacular.

Who doesn’t want chocolate? So of course I walked in… ordered a chocolate milkshake — not the best milkshake, especially for the price. Points off for when the bottom of the milkshake gets a lot of air or ice and is hard to drink, which did happen in this case. The hot chocolate was OK, no complaints. The chocolates seemed pricey and they ran out of individual boxes(for people who wanted to ship them as gifts) — on the plus side, less packaging waste means more environmental friendliness! Not the friendliest service, but not terrible either. A very small place, so it can get cramped if a lot of people want to sit down and eat their sweets there. But hey, indulge your sweet tooth, just do so sparingly and in moderation.

Nope. My daughter and I went here for the first time today and we were very disappointed. She got a small red velvet cake — it was so stale she threw it out.(This is a ‘tween girl, yes, chucking a sweet — it was real bad.). My carrot cake was only slightly better. And this stuff was not cheap either. Stay away. (Note: this review was written 9÷29÷12 and posted later.)

This place is like a chocolate lovers dream. The space is what I would call«quaint» and I would highly recommend this as a intimate date spot. Fellas, what woman wouldn’t want to indulge in the decadence of quality chocolate? It’s fool proof. I had their frothy, spicy hot chocolate which was rich with coco powder, not too sweet and had a fiery bite come though at the end; perfect to warm you to your toes on a blustery day. I’m a real fan of salty/sweet confections so I tried the Sea Salt Caramel Pyramid. It looked large enough to share and I was worried it would be too dense. While it was rich, it wasn’t too much. I found a silky chocolate mousse under a blanket of dark chocolate. At $ 6 a cake you might be tempted to share, but after one bite I definitely did not want to. «Hey! Get your own!».

Amazing. I had their hot chocolate concoction of the same namesake and it was magnificent! It had a lavender flavored froth on top of a deep think rich body. The hot chocolate was very thick almost like oil!(Some of you might be thinking ‘disgusting’ but I’m a bit of a gear head and that is a good thing!) The atmosphere is chic/cool and I love that they write the menu on the mirrors. It’s an intimate space and I’m sure that there will be times when the line is literally running out the door so plan carefully. If you are waiting for the line to die down, FroyoWorld is across the street so you can kill time eating some delicious frozen yogurt first! I can’t wait to bring some friends here and sample more of their good!

Marvelous. I’m a Norwalk girl so Chocopologie is nothing new to me. Fritz Knipschildt has been dominating the local chocolate scene for years and he’s made quite a name for himself. And, despite my best efforts, I can’t stop pronouncing it ‘Knipshit.“ Anyway, after stopping in New Haven for a spectacular lunch at Miya’s Sushi(which I haven’t worked up the nerve to review yet, though it’s one of my favorite restaurants in the state) I wanted to pick up an early birthday gift for my father(who is blessed/cursed with a wicked sweet tooth). A box of artisan chocolates seemed just the thing. Even though I was heading down to Norwalk, home of the original Chocopologie, I decided to stop into New Haven’s newer location since I was already in town. It’s a small, narrow café filled to the brim with decadent treats — mini cakes with rich layers of ganache, truffles, chocolate dipped pork rinds — you name it. After selecting an assortment of crazy-ass delicious truffles, my friend and I sat down with a creamy autumnal favorite, pumpkin cheesecake, and one of the café’s signature drinks — a mocha with fragrant lavender foam. Glorious. Back to the most important part — the truffles. Just to give you an idea of the care and creativity that goes into the confections — some of my favorite Knipschildt creations are: –Rose Truffle Topped with Rose Petal –Marzipan Silician Pistachio Truffle –Strawberry Lemon-Thyme Truffle –Rum, Orange & Honey truffle –CARDAMOMMOMNOMNOM Little edible works of art. Get some.

Like many other have encountered… the services was not good. They were not friendly and helpful while taking our orders and didn’t give us anything to eat the cake with. I also got old cakes from here sometimes and that was super disappointing since the charge you for $ 6 or $ 7 for it. It was old and dry and the frostinf was hard. Ther french mararon also got worse. It was okay(of coure never great like some places specialized in french macarons in NYC), but it was still pretty okay that I would get if I had a craving for it and can’t make it to NYC. But it got bad. The service of the macaron was absolutely NOTSMOOTH(that’s a huge turn off for me!) and it was crispy and sometimes hard. Overall, I don’t think I’ll go back there for a while. But hey, the chocolate is still pretty good! But That’s about it for now!

Great concept and look– but HORRIBLE crepes. We had a salty chocolate mousse pyramid and that was wonderful. BUT, the crepes were sooo terrible that this rating had to remain at 3(apart from the great people behind the counter and the awesome ambiance). It tasted undercooked and just off– the choco-peanut butter sauce was also not that great. My friend and I both hated the crêpe we had. The spicy hot chocolate was also off(according to my friend) who visited a few days later.

Great cake. Strange service. I’ve been here on two occasions and each time I left confused but with a delectable, sugary confection in hand. Gotta take the good with the bad? The first time, I wandered in just to check the place out. It was the middle of the day and there were no customers there but the girl behind the counter seemed miserable and was slow in serving. I chalked her behavior up to boredom or a bad day(still not cool though) and asked for a homemade spicy peach popsicle. I know, its a chocolate shop. Why would I order a peach popsicle? It was hot outside darn it! All I could think about was cooling off(don’t judge me). Anywho… it worked out well because the popsicle was great; sweet with a pop of spice. Nice! In light of the exceptional quality of my popsicle, I dismissed the lukewarm service and hoped to try again. The second time, I came in with a friend. There was a different, more friendly, lady at the counter this time. My friend ask a few simple questions about some menu items and she was completely stumped. In her defense, she said she was new and she referred the questions over to the manager. «OK, now we’ll find out if we can get a flavor shot added to any drink,» I thought to myself. Nope. The manager didn’t even know what we were talking about, but item was definitely on the menu. Ooook then… We moved on from the questions(since we weren’t getting anywhere) and decided to split the chocolate ganache cake and chocolate hazelnut dome. Our mouths were watering in eager anticipation of our chocolate gluttony about to go down, until we saw the clerk lick her fingers after boxing up our cake. Ewwww… NASTY! Fortunately, we didn’t see her lick her grubby little fingers before she touched our pieces of cake, it was too late though, the bad taste was already in our mouth. How many times had she licked her fingers before we came in? Yuck! We put those thoughts aside, hoped for the best, and ate the cake. It was good but the magic was gone. Sadness.

New Haven never had a shortage of good dessert, but it definitely needed a chocolate shop. Enter Chocopologie, home to delightful truffles and chocolate cake. Everything is incredibly rich, rich to the point where I really can’t have more than a couple of bites(but that’s really just me, my friends don’t seem to struggle with it). But it’s a great place to pick up classier looking desserts and chocolate for friends. It might seem pricier compared to other things in New Haven, but is comparable to chocolate shops in New York and DC and definitely better priced!

The service was lousy and the experience a little skeezy. There was a short, young guy in a t-shirt behind the counter paying hardly any attention to the growing line. In fact, he turned around, did something else, and after a short time eventually managed to take an order. When it was our turn, his actions and words were all attitude — not in a sharp quick rude way — in a very slow, my mind isn’t working kind of way. He gave us our order without utensils. We asked for forks. He gave us spoons… for a small cake on a plate. To top things off, after we sat down, we watched him eating, mouth open, behind the counter, watching little crumbs of his cake go all over the place while he intermittently aided the long waiting customer standing at the counter. I won’t go back and would definitely recommend skipping the place especially since there’s other good choices within a block.

The chocolates are delicious. I was in there today to buy truffles for my boyfriend for Valentine’s Day. I purchased a few Turkish coffee truffles, chili and tangerine, and raspberry and pink peppercorn. They are exquisite. Chocolate just envelops you when you walk into the shop. I wish I had been able to try some of their other tasty treats, but as you would think most of them were gone by the time I got out of work. Whoever got those wonderful treats, know that you are loved. The service was a little unpleasant though. Maybe the woman had a tough day, it being the best chocolate buying day of year. Nevertheless, I stood there in front of her for ten minutes watching her stock truffles in the case. She completely ignored me. No hello or I’ll be right with you. She glanced at me then continued to finish what she was doing. Finally, she asked me what she could help me with. I asked her if I could get a box with a variety of the different truffles that she was laying out. She then informed me that they didn’t sell boxes. The only boxed truffles they had were the ones on the display in the front(which were boxes of the same kind of truffle). There were so many different flavors though. Why would I want to buy a $ 30 box with 20 of the same kind?! That is crazy! She then offered me a tiny bag which would hold maybe 3. She then relented and brought out a perfect sized box for the amount of truffles I wanted to purchase. The woman made sure to inform me that they never do this and that she was doing me a huge favor. I was less than pleased to be getting this much attitude from a woman at least 5 years younger than I am in a chocolate store after a very long day of work. Chocolate is delicious and makes me smile, attitude does not. Besides, anyone buying said wonderful chocolate should not be made to feel uncomfortable and inferior. Guilty… maybe ;) — especially since I know how to make my own truffles. Definitely willing to change my review after another experience there. Definitely willing to have another experience because they have chocolate covered pork rinds! Crazy? Yes. Will I try it? For sure! I don’t even like pork rinds! They also have drinks such as hot chocolate and milkshakes. I can’t imagine how wonderful those taste. A small, but cute place. Very intimate, but usually full of patrons when I walk by on a Friday or Saturday night.

Smells so sensual inside. The chocolates and cakes are the best you can get in New Haven. The hot chocolate is incredibly luscious. These are not the«too perfect to eat» kind of chocolates(the kind you spend 3x the amount on in stores in NY or Paris). They are the«smells good, looks good» kind of chocolates that are a little pricier because they have to be. No shame.

I’ll spare you the details of lavender ginger ganache, chili and tangerine cones oozing wondrous white centers, caramels dusted with smoked sea salt, tempting turtles of dark chocolate, caramel and pecan clusters, and dense ass(in any interpretable meaning) shakes sporting flavor combos like banilla, which gives choconana a run for its money. Here’s what you need to know: they sell chocolate dipped pork rinds. Chocolate. Dipped. Pork rinds. You’re welcome.

It is VERY exciting news that Chocopologie has brought New Haven an outpost full of their chocolate wares. When my wife spotted it as we were parking to go to the Little Salad Shop, she screamed so loudly I thought I had run someone over. This Chocopologie features most of the amazing chocolates that the original restaurant has in South Norwalk. It’s all very, very good. I am certain that better chocolate cannot be found in CT. I’m even pretty confident that you couldn’t find better chocolate anywhere in NY or New England. The hot chocolates are highly recommended. The individual chocolate pieces are great too, and there are a variety of other desserts available too. I hope they stay in New Haven forever!

How is it that I’m the first to review this lip-smacking new addition to High Street? Snuggled right in between Starbucks and the Little Salad Shop(perfect location… salad for lunch… chocolate dessert… chocolate to go before you root yourself to a study seat among the Starbucks crowd), I was thrilled to discover that this place finally opened. In an attempt to be leisurely with my gluttony, I forced myself to forego ordering the entire menu, grabbing a double chocolate(triple, if you count the white chocolate chunks) cookie and two chocolates: pistachio and green tea. The cookie: heavenly. Wow — even two hours later, it was fantastic. I like my cookies to hit a perfect stride between doughy, chewy, and crisp — which this definitely did. There were ample white chunks, but not so many that they overwhelmed the richness of the dark chocolate, and pairing the cookie with coffee was an excellent way to really tease out the flavor and mellow the sweetness. My chocolates were also fantastic, both equally enjoyable in chocolate quality, special flavor(hard to make additions of green tea not come off as chalky), and texture — smoooooth. I noticed a long list of made-to-order desserts while I was waiting at the register. Very excited to return.
