Everything was good but every time I go here and get hibachi, my chicken is very tough. Besides that everything was great

I am never returning here due to the horrible service and management at this restaurant. We were here for a going away party for a big group and after the hibachi routine we were served our food. A waiter while serving drinks by mistake spilled a full glass of water on my plate and myself. This was not a big deal and is not the reason for a bad review. Instead of preparing a new plate of food for me the waiter simply drained my plate of water. Lol. So then I called the management and they finally agreed to re make my meal. So the reason for my bad review was that a mistake that could have been easily fixed was made worse by the management and staff, I guess to save money. They may have not served me a newly cooked meal and saved a little but they have lost all of us in our group as customers. We are never going back.

My first experience at SUMO’s was solo and the manager personally guided me through my roll choices by asking the right questions(my likes & dislikes) and suggesting what to order. I sat at the Sushi Bar and they had 4 chefs creating non-stop. Yes there were plenty of folks during the lunch time. And in one of the Hibachi rooms you’d hear a gong every now and then. What a great experience. My 2nd, 3rd, and on experiences were all a treat, I treated my grandson to his first Hibachi experience and that was a memory that will endure. The hostesses are always pleasant, the staff is always attentive, the food is always good, but sometimes we felt rushed but this is perhaps because the place is usually busy — and that’s good for business.

Went here for lunch the other day and the sushi rolls I had were good, my wife said that hers were just there, nothing special at all. The thing that disappointed us the mist was the lack of a selection for the sushi. This. could have been our fault as Sumo is really a hibachi place which I have not tried. In short if you have your heart set on sushi I recommend Mitsuba which is only a minute away there is a better selection with better results. The restaurant was very clean and the service was quite good though, I may still give it a try for hibachi.

Today was my second time here & I did not enjoy myself at all. Our waiter was very standoffish. We were barely checked on throughout our entire meal. My soup was luke warm and the salad was bland. I ordered the lunch special Hibachi Steak and received it pretty quickly. Although I was disappointed w/my soup and salad, the rice, veggies and steak were perfect. Great flavor and I began to enjoy my meal until I found some sort of plastic in my rice. After that, I was turned off completely & attempted to flag down my waiter. Numerous times, he blatantly stared and me & refused to come to my table. A different waitress noticed me and came over to my table. I told her I found something in my rice… she said nothing & took my plate away. She came back 2 mins later & asked if I wanted a new plate. Then MY waiter came over & asked the same question… Feeling annoyed I said no and asked for my check. No one apologized but the waitress came back w/my check & gave me my meal for free. MY waiter then came over & asked for my check & added my ginger ale to my bill… Probably won’t come back, which sucks because the food is really good.

I was craving Teppanyaki grilled chicken, but also wanted a quiet night in with my beaux. Sumo offered a perfect solution offering carry-out menu items. The portions were just as generous as they are at the restaurant and everything was delicious. I was very satisfied with my teriyaki chicken and noodles, as was my husband. We will definitely be dining here again.

The food was adequate, the service however was not. Our server YELLED at us when we asked for another sushi roll after we ordered, saying«why can’t you just order everything at once?» It was undoubtedly the worst service I have ever had at a restaurant. This also all happened after waiting to be seated for 40 minutes after a reservation. The ambiance? Migrane-inducing levels of loud. Do not recommend to my worst enemy.

This is my favorite hibachi place! I moved across the country and miss it dearly. I really enjoy how they give you rice AND noodles with your hibachi. Best of both worlds! The dinner price is how any(good quality) hibachi meal would be, about the low $ 20’s.(I used to get lunch take-out, steak and shrimp and it was only $ 13!) You also get your standard soup, salad, and sauces. The sushi was pretty good as well! Not the BEST I’ve ever had(then again I’ve had sushi all over the world) but it’s definitely the best you’ll have around Central New York. I’m giving it 5 stars. I’m only speaking to the hibachi and sushi though. I’ve never had a meal off the menu besides hibachi so I cannot comment on standard meals. Would definitely recommend!

Best sushi in CNY. The food is always fresh, sushi is never fishy smelling. The staff is fantastic, we go here often and they seem to genuinely appreciate your business. The hibachi is excellent as well, never greasy, always delicious. Our favorite restaurant!

Went here for dinner the other night. I have been to this restaurant about 5 times. I know this is a very General statement but, it’s not the worst by any means but it’s not the best. The atmosphere is loud and«young.» The staff is very nice and attentive to our every need. As for the show, you’ve seen one, you’ve seen them all. –They all have the same routine As for the food. The salads with ginger sauce are very good. It even inspired me to buy my own ginger dressing. The rice lacks the amazing flavor that some hibaci’s provide. The mean seems of lesser quality but melts in your mouth. Overall it is a nice establishment. Prepare to spend $ 20 – 30 per person.

Coming from Florida where every corner theres a fresh sushi place, I’m thoroughly impressed with the quality of their fish. I ordered the sashimi dinner of 15 pieces over sushi rice. Probably the freshest tuna I have had yet. Service was also phenomenal. Atmosphere was nice.

The food at this restaurant was good, but very expensive. I’m not giving a 3 star rating for the food, but for the service. My boyfriend and I chose to eat in the normal restaurant section, because we figured the hibachi section would be too hectic. And I’m not a fan of staring at strangers while I eat. We were seated at a nice(but small) table in a well-decorated room. The décor of the restaurant is captivating. We both ordered hibachi. I got steak and chicken, and he got hibachi steak. We also ordered duck spring rolls, which weren’t very good. The meals were both over 20 dollars each, and the appetizer was 7 dollars. They brought out clear soup for us, which was delicious. Then they brought our salads and appetizers at the same time. And two minutes later … The meal arrived. The timing was very poor, and I felt rushed. I felt like they were trying to get us out of there as fast as possible because they were anticipating a big crowd. The duck spring rolls were unimpressive, and they felt like a waste of money since they were brought out right with the meal. For me, this is a huge screw up at any restaurant. I want to enjoy the appetizer, not stuff it down with the main course! The hibachi was pretty good, but nothing out of this world. I thought it would be more flavorful. The chicken was better than the steak. I felt like we were paying for quantity rather than quality. It wasn’t that different than what you’d get at some Chinese place(except the meat was better grade). The hibachi portions were HUGE and we had way too much food. Still, I feel the high prices are for quantity rather than delicious taste. After eating we waited a long time for the check. I wish they were that slow with bringing out the salads/appetizer! The food was something different, and admittedly pretty tasty. But you might find yourself frustrated with the service and pacing if you come on a busy night.

They have really awesome sushi here, I love the yummy yummy roll. They also have the best hibachi rice and noodles. I always come here for hibachi when I’m celebrating a birthday, and it’s always so entertaining! All of the chefs are phenomenal. Last time I came here though, I sat in the dining room and the service was a little slow. Our waiter was really nice though! I love this place, favorite sushi spot in the area overall.

Exterior windows need to be cleaned and was afraid to go in. Went inside and was pleasantly pleased with how clean it was. Very nice and updated décor but was disappointed with quality of sushi.

Solid restaurant. Service was ok, they forgot our appetizer but brought it out shortly after our main course was served. I got the sushi, it was ordinary American style sushi. Fish obviously wasn’t that fresh, but passable. The one thing that was kind of annoying was that the rolls were cut into large pieces. They should be cut into eights instead of sixes and that would have made a better presentation as well as a better fit for a bite. Miso soup was ok, and my gf got the green chicken curry. She got a comically small portion of rice for a huge portion of curry. Large slices of chicken and the vegetables were crisp which was a pleasant surprise. Maybe they were locally grown. Wished for more of the curry sauce and heat but still good.

Good Sushi and Hibachi spot ! The price is very good. Service is great and timely, and prices are very reasonable. Waiters could be a little bit more knowledgable on the menu to answer questions but they are very friendly and willing to find out the answer from a manager. Two thumbs up!

I’ve only been here for dinner a few times and each time, I ordered hibachi. I usually go with the steak and chicken but one time I ordered scallops. Warning: STAYAWAYFROMSCALLOPS! They might not have been fresh or cooked very well, but an hour or two after I finished that hibachi meal, I was sick with my head in a toilet for the next 4 hours. It was an awful experience and trust me, I could tell it was the scallops that got me sick. Since then, I’ve never been back. Besides that one terrible experience, the hibachi shows are entertaining but the food is just mediocre. It really depends on which hibachi chef you get because some are better than others at making your food. Just make sure you don’t order scallops.
