One of the best dive bars I’ve ever been to. Bathroom tiles on the floor, Vinyl booths right out of tones from the 1960’s, old guys watching TV news around the bar(could be a Richard Russo book), great jukebox, cheap Utica Club, and a great secret menu. The food includes ziti with meatballs and marinara(Utica Italian food is about as good as it gets), fish fry(upstate NY classic Friday culture), and a chicken salad like no other. Late at night it gets much younger. Just an amazing little craphole of a bar.

Nothing screams Utica quite like this place! It’s the dive of all dives, the average age is quite high, and you can’t expect any specialty drinks — BUT $ 1.50 for a beer and $ 2.50 for a mixed drink, can you really go wrong? This is definitely the first stop when I bring friends to the area so they can get cheaply toasted before heading off to Varick St.

I stood out like a sore thumb here when I came a few months ago. Prop’s Inn is a place where locals gather and get ridiculously drunk. It’s a tiny bar with about 6 parking spots and cheap drinks. People were very friendly and welcoming but I didn’t feel at home here. The lighting was strange, the seats were all torn up, and the average age is probably around 45.

Having only come here as an out-of-towner, I’m always a little taken aback by Prop’s. This place has fluorescent lighting. There are antlers hanging on the wall. Drinks here are $ 2 – 3. Around holidays, it always feels like a high school reunion in there. However, the locals don’t seem to mind the bad lighting and I certainly don’t mind the cheap drinks.
