For my wedding, I had more than a cake. So we commissioned LIzzy’s for a small, white round cake. The cake itself was delicious. The service — was sub-par. I picked up the cake — the box wasn’t deep enough and was smashing into the frosting. The worker told me to «get over it» and to «smooth the icing over» — now mind you, I picked this cake up on a Friday, for a Saturday wedding. I admit — I was not very nice in store. Considering I could see three other orders, all similar in size in better boxes — I was less than thrilled with how I was treated. For what I received, a 6inch and 8 inch chocolate cake — paying $ 50 was some serious mark-up.

This is the only gluten free place in the area for sweets for my daughter. I have previously asked on their Facebook page for ingredient lists for their GF cupcakes, only to be told that«we don’t give out our recipes». I don’t need the recipe, just to know what the ingredients are. It’s the health of my child at stake! I drove the 25 miles down to this place today(had other business in the same shopping plaza), only to be told by the employee that she didn’t know what the ingredients are, that she doesn’t make the GF items, and the owner wasn’t in and that«We are in a crisis here». She went out back for just a moment and came back and said that she couldn’t find a recipe. She told me that the owner should be «right back». The store was fairly busy at that point. I went to another store in the plaza, and returned about 15 minutes later. The bakery was completely empty at that point. I asked the same employee if the owner had returned and she said«she just left». Having(and boasting) a specialty item that is intended for people with food allergies, they should have an ingredient list available at all times. Nobody cares what the recipe is. The ingredients are extremely important though. I didn’t even buy anything in the store. I won’t make my allergy child suffer watching everyone else eat something yummy when she can’t. I won’t be back!

Lizzy’s Cupcakery & Candies is located at the New Hartford Shopping Center offering a good variety of homemade cupcakes(selection changes daily), cookies, brownies, macaroons, desserts, candies, and gifts. Special order cakes and cupcakes are taken. Gluten free cupcakes are offered in the shop Thurs-Sat or by special order. Doggie cupcakes are also offered for«Fido» too. This small local business was formerly Candies N Cupcakes of Rome which changed its name and moved to New Hartford. I stopped in here recently to purchase some frosted cupcakes to bring back home. They had 7 different kinds of cupcakes on display for sale including Red Velvet, Cookie Dough, Pistachio, Coconut, Chocolate, Vanilla, Chocolate Peanut Butter, Chocolate Oreo, plus 3 gluten free choices including Chocolate, Choc Peanut Butter, Key Lime. The cupcakes were $ 2.50 each or 4 cupcakes for $ 8, 6 cupcakes for $ 10 and 12 cupcakes for $ 20. I decided to get 6 cupcakes for $ 10 including Red Velvet, Coconut, Chocolate Oreo, Pistachio, Chocolate Peanut Butter, and Cookie Dough. Though not fancy cupcakes(Coccadotts in the Albany area has fancy cupcakes and more expensive), the cupcakes I ordered at Lizzy’s were each very good in their own way. The cake texture was very moist, even after four days when I ate my last cupcake. The frosting on top was light and sweet, but not sugary. The Red Velvet and the Chocolate PB were my two favorites. Next time I come in here for cupcakes, I’ll have to try the Rocky Road, Caramel Maple, and/or Key Lime if available.
