CLOSES EARLY ON SUNDAY’S!!! Make note of this if you go on a Sunday. I made sure I got there before closing this time, since the previous time I was in New Glarus they had closed. After having their «Portable Wisconsin» brat for dinner last night, I will be making sure I stop by for more next time I’m in town. They are damn tasty.
So yeah, several varieties of house made brats, sausage, and landjaeger for sale along with a few other local made cheeses. All the brats are available frozen, so bring a cooler along for your road trip back home.

Ruef’s is an old-​timey small town butcher shop. Most of what they sell is homemade sausage vs. chops/​steaks. If you’re looking for brats, this place definitely has you covered with two dozen varieties including taco, bacon bleu cheese, super spicy, onion beer and a whole bunch more.
Outside of brats, most of the sausages are German/​Swiss varieties like Mettwurst or Thuringer. We left with a few different types to try as well as some spicy landjaegers.
Pretty much every restaurant in town serves their stuff so you can try it before you buy. If you like it, they’ll happily ship most items to you.

My wife and I stopped in here while we were visiting and walking around downtown New Glarus. It’s a small, but friendly business with many creative meat creations. The following night I grilled some of their bacon bleu cheese brats and loved every bite.
We’ll definitely come back next time we’re in town.

We stopped here during our visit to New Glarus. It is a cute small butcher shop nestled in the cozy Main Street area of town. We picked up some smoked brats, some Cervelas (A type of Swiss sausage) and a bit of beef jerky. If you’re on Main Street in New Glarus, this place makes a great stop.

Smoked meats (hickory, no liquid smoke here) made on site. We picked up some salami and cheese for a day trip but will be back for their brats, especially after eating one of their foot-​longs at the Sportsman Bar next door. Wow! Veal sausages and he even had whole smoked chickens! It don’t get more real. Great stuff.

The BF and I were killing time before New Glarus Brewery opened so we decided to stop here since it was one of the few stores that were opened. It smelled fantastic inside and it made me wish I lived in WI so I could buy some of their smoked meats to cook up for myself. Alas, we had to settle for their landjaegers, a dried beef and pork snack sausage. Think gourmet Slim Jims. We liked them so much we came back and bought a bunch more for the road. If you find yourself in the area, make Ruef’s a stop and stock up on your dried snack meats.
