Sometimes you walk up to a place and wonder, «What did I get myself into?» Then after enjoying this new discovery, you exclaim, «What I get myself into! and when can I go back?» The exterior of this restaurant is nondescript. It is next door to a bridal shop and I wasn’t even sure if they were open. The inside is an eclectic mix which works in some restaurants — such as this case The food? Outstanding. It is locally sourced, which is shown on the back of the menu. My BLT sandwich was so good! My Moscato mimosa was very good and I would have liked the second one if I have not been driving. My peanut butter chocolate chip cookie was one I could have skipped, but not bad. The service is friendly, the atmosphere is warm and comfortable. Overall, a gem in the rough worth the visit.

Very cute café atmosphere! Stopped in here due to GPS recommendations and was not disappointed. The décor is antiquey farmhouse, and done very well. The food is in large proportions and everything is locally sourced, which is awesome. I got the special– Elvis French toast with peanut butter, apple butter, and bacon. My friend got a ham and egg scrambler with potatoes, both were simple but delicious. Will be stopping in again!

My boyfriend and were just in New Glarus staying at Lucky Dog Farm Stay which is affiliated with Cow and Quince, our first morning some of the guests at the Inn told us how delicious their breakfast was and made some recommendations. We were definitely glad we had 3 days to eat there, because it was so hard to make a decision on the dishes we want to try. And you’d better believe that we ate at Cow and Quince every day that we were in New Glarus. To be honest our meals at this restaurant were the best food that we ate during our entire stay. We love the taste of the farm fresh ingredients that are free of any additives– there is a difference that you can taste. When we’re at home we love to find farm to table places and eat the delicious food and support the local economy. It’s great that Cow and Quince exists and is a place to show off the great food that farms are producing and allow local people and tourists to sample their food. We bought some meats, cheeses and apple butter to take home with us. And we’ve already started telling friends to check out Cow & Quince if they ever visit.

This was a great breakfast find! We shared the biscuits and gravy and beer cheese soup(with bacon!). Both were wonderful and we left with happy bellies and smiles on our faces. Cow and Quince is cute, cozy and comfortable and the service was top-notch, fast and friendly. Definitely check it out if you’re in the area.

Stopped in last Sunday craving the fantastic Biscuits and Gravy. I guess everyone else had the same idea, by the time we arrived the biscuits were sold out! Total bummer! The waitress explained they were closing for the next couple weeks to update their menu, which is why they were running their ingredients low. While I was bummed(crushed, would be more like it) about the Biscuits, I understood. I’m excited to see what they come up with next! I «settled» for the Porkbelly Scrambler. Fantastic! So fresh and delicious. For me, the side salad is such a strange addition to breakfast, but it’s soo good, lightly dressed, not just for decoration. The salad and scrambler were inhaled in minutes. Fantasic…I will be back in February for those Biscuits and Gravy!

When I’m in New Glarus, it’s usually for R&D releases at the brewery. When I go to R&D releases I usually get some degree of hammered. When I get some degree of hammered, my decision making on lunch usually begins and ends with«CULVERS! NOW!». The thing about NG is that it’s a tiny place kind of in a little valley. Cell phones don’t work there. Unless you plan ahead and research some spots(and there are some fucking spots, my friends) you’re kind of fucked. Well, I finally did my homework and stumbled upon Cow and Quince. It’s a little café and restaurant just off the main drag and they also sell local foods and gifts. This place is kind of awesome. I had one of the best burgers of all time and their tomato soup is on fucking point. The service was friendly and attentive and they even gave me their wifi password because again, no cell phonery around here. Definitely worth checking out.

Top 3 breakfasts of my life hands down! I am not even sure I could put this place in to words. Its just that amazing! Everything is local and the preparation of every single dish is unlike anything you have ever seen. I cant even describe the taste. We were all just silent going crazy over how good everything was! I am so sad we did not make it here more than once. Its crossed my mind to drive here just for breakfast. Its probably a 4 hour drive from my house too. We tried the breakfast sandwich, 2 eggs and bacon/ham and the biscuits and gravy. Everything was out of this world! As a bonus they even serve spotted cow and mimosas.

AMAZING!!! They crafted a pickle plate for my vegan friend that blew our socks off, then I had savory french toast with pork belly, duck egg, kale, etc. I will be thinking about this meal for awhile.

Awesome place. Great coffee to start(always a good sign) followed by breakfast of eggs(yum), amazing toast with tasty tomato jam, super interesting/unusual breakfast potatoes(a medley of purple ones, carrots, etc.), and a piece of ham. All the food was good. But the real standout of the morning: our server was great with kids! She was friendly from the start. I ordered my daughter a grilled cheese sandwich and the options for sides were chips or vegetables. I asked what the veggies were, hoping for some kind of crudités. Server said it was a small salad. I didn’t think kiddo would go for a salad, but thought it was a better choice than chips(I figured I’d just eat it!) I must’ve kind of hesitated, because server spontaneously offered to sub in apple slices. Perfect! Great service! When the sandwich came out, not only did it have apples, but a homemade caramel sauce they whipped up as a special treat!!! Delicious, and so nice of them.

We stopped in at the Cow & Quince for a quick breakfast before our Saturday adventure and found it to be just the thing we needed. Cow & Quince offers a short, but balanced breakfast menu which covers all the basics you would expect from a breakfast menu, but then elevates them with quality ingredients and infusions of flavor. My scrambled eggs with aioli and shiitaki mushrooms was the type of meal I hope to find when going out for breakfast. Any one can make scrambled eggs, not everyone can make them memorable; Cow & Quince’s food is definitely memorable. Combined with the fact that I love the atmosphere of New Glarus in general, I have to recommend that if you are in the are looking for some delicious food, Cow & Quince won’t disappoint.

On a recent trip to New Glarus, my husband and I stopped in here for a light lunch. The place was quaint with an open kitchen. It felt homey and warm on a cool, rainy day. The place was not busy and we had a very pleasant and attentive waitress. She recommended the Ginger Glazed Pork Sandwich so we decided to split it and each have a beer(New Glarus beer of course). The sandwich came out quickly and was delicious. The bread was perfectly toasted and the pork was tender. The pickled jalapenos and beet slaw were a great combination of flavor on the sandwich. The sandwich was filling and came with chips so splitting worked for us. I didn’t look much at the items they sold in the«market» part of the restaurant but overall, I really liked this place. We spent a little more than $ 20 on a sandwich and two beers. If you are in the area, check it out!

Wow! One of my husbands friends told him about this place and I was skeptical. Why drive all the way to New Glarus for breakfast? I will be driving here again. Fresh local and imaginative cuisine. Each dish is lovingly prepared, even the toast tastes homemade. Lots of diverse vegetables incorporated in each dish. Excellent coffee. Friendly service. I can’t wait to come back and try dinner on Friday or one of their special Saturday dinners. Really exceptional without being fussy or too fancy.

The missing star is for the missing air conditioning. With air, this would definitely be a 5-star lunch. The corn fritter special was delicious and inspirational – I’d like to attempt it at home. Great heirlooms veggies with it. The 3-cheese grilled cheese with apple butter was delicious but I’m glad I split it and got it with salad. It’s heavy. The BLT was lovely too! The people who work here are friendly and laid back. A very enjoyable meal… Except for the heat!

This place was so delicious. When in Wisconsin eat cheese curds. And so I did. The Bunskits and gravy was SO good. My fellow diners loved their food too. The coffee was nice and strong. It was a little hot in the restaurant on our visit and service was sort of slow but we sorta forgot about that once the food arrived. Yummmmmm

Holy shit! This is one of the best meals I’ve had in quite a long time! There are some talented people behind this place. I took pictures of my food and sent them to my friend(the one I usually make fun of for taking pictures of her food)! This morning, I had a savory French toast made with(and I wrote it down so I wouldn’t forget): Brioche, gouda, Jordanian Farms pork belly, kale, leeks, apricots, sunny side up duck egg, and maple-roasted garlic vinaigrette. It was fucking delicious! The server gently twisted my arm and I had the chocolate mousse too. That was served with sour cherries, vanilla whipped crème and pistachios. I was in a very Zen place at the end of this meal. I WILLBEBACK.

First time here… expected it to be crowded at lunch time on a Saturday, but wasn’t. Food was outstanding, but pricey. I had the BLT sandwich which had fresh melted mozzarella on it & husband had the pork & beet slaw sandwich. The tomatoes on my sandwich were so juicy that the juice was dripping down onto the plate(a good thing!). The salads had different mixed greens and were very fresh; the dressing tasty and light. However, they did forget to put dressing on my husband’s salad so he had to ask for some when the server came around. Service was decent; nothing to rave about. One bathroom for both men and women and very tiny and kind of creepy with rusty old fixtures and no window. We spent $ 36 on two sandwiches, two iced teas, and tip. Too pricey for sandwiches, but I guess it was worth it for the one time.

Amazing food. The quality was top notch, some of the best food i’ve eaten recently. Arrived around 9:30 on Saturday, and it filled up shortly after. Our waitress was very friendly and knowledgeable. We had the plain jane waffles, pastrami sandwich, spring beans, and a special dish for the local festival that day. Everything was delicious and artfully prepared. The pastrami was thick cut, juicy and tender, and nicely seasoned. I would eat here every day if I could, but will have to settle for our annual visit to New Glarus.

LOVE this place. This was our third visit, and nothing’s been bad(or even mediocre) yet. Took a short drive to New Glarus for the«Grand Reopening» Friday night dinner. So, so worth it. Husband and I shared a bowl of soup, two appetizers, two entrees, and two desserts(for specifics, see below). Everything was great(the food, the presentation, the service), start to finish, and on par with the more upscale restaurants in downtown Madison. It wasn’t a cheap meal, but we left absolutely stuffed. Menu details(to the best of my recollection; I don’t have a copy of the menu to reference): Soup — creamy kale & mushroom Appetizer #1 — butter braised asparagus w/shitakes, pine nuts, and radish Appetizer #2 — «bacon, beer, & cheese» — nitrate-free pork belly, porter jelly, and bread cheese Entrée #1 — Chicken Confit w/buttered spring peas, fingerling potatoes, herb vinaigrette Entrée #2 — Braised Chuck w/polenta, roasted baby fennel, mushroom gremalata, garlic scape Dessert #1 — maple mousse w/candied bacon, pecans, whipped cream Dessert #2 — chocolate bread pudding w/cajeta(goat’s milk caramel, made with milk from the owner’s goats), chocolate sauce, whipped cream

After staying at the Lucky Dog Farm, we grabbed breakfast here before leaving New Glarus. We enjoyed delicious, unique, and very filling dishes made with all local ingredients. The environment was great. The staff was so warm and welcoming. Such a treasure! Will definitely be back.

I couldn’t stop staying ‘mmmmmm’. I was driving my husband nuts! Haha. I ordered the braised short ribs with polenta. The meat melted in my mouth, the sauce and veggies were perfectly cooked and complementary to the meat and polenta. The waitress also told us the soup specials, and because I ‘mmm’d at the Butternut Squash soup she brought us a little taster! Oh my god… Tasted like liquid pumpkin pie. My husband ordered the pork chop. I tasted the honey veggies and they were delicious! The staff was helpful and caring, the atmosphere charming. There are also shelves of fun local items for sale. I would go back and I highly recommend.
