Background: I live in an apartment in the ‘burbs of Philly, which is a far cry from my former living situation in rural YoCo. Despite my current lack of a yard, deck, or even fire escape, I was determined to start my own«window farm». The friendly, knowledgeable employees were great with helping me find some smaller, more compact varieties of plants that will work well with my setup. The selection was extensive: all kinds of tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, and herbs, which I’ll end up using as companion plants. My favorite finds, though, were edamame and peanuts! I’d never seen them sold anywhere in plant form. I also picked up some flowers for myself and my mom, including a lovely hibiscus. All the plants were gorgeous. Nothing like the sad guys they sell in the local hardware and grocery stores. And the prices were great. Most of the individual veggie plants were $.99-$ 3.99. Definitely check out Superior Nursery the next time you’re planning your garden, whether it’s traditional or in a window.
