Some folks call them Gobs and others call them Whoopie Pies. I’ve mentioned them before in past reviews and they are pretty well famous in Pennsylvania and especially Johnstown. If you move elsewhere, like I did, throughout the country and mention gobs or whoopie pies, people look at you like you are half cracked. A little like«pigs in the blanket» which are stuffed cabbage rolls elsewhere or the traditional name of halupkis. We call them«pigs» or «pigs in the blanket» and thinking I was getting just this when I moved I ended up with a sausage wrapped inside of a pancake and I was like. nope this is not what I wanted. I stopped saying«warsh» and started saying wash. I stopped saying«younz» and started saying you all. Lol, love how I went from Johnstown, Pa. to southern lingo while living in Massachusetts? When you do go home from time to time, nothing warms your heart like listening to the locals talk, pigs in the blanket with buttered parsley potatoes, as you once knew them, pierogies made from scratch, subs and gobs. Laurie’s makes some of the best, moist gobs I have ever had, almost as good as mine! So fresh and loaded with flavor and one hundred times better than Yost’s mass produced ones. I bought the chocolate filled gobs and the pumpkin filled gobs and you would have thought they were made an hour ago. So flavorful as well. I also bought another brand which were not as fresh and flavorful, but they were not bad. One was banana and the other was a chocolate gob with a rich peanut butter filling. Nothing beats making them at home, but when you are in Johnstown and picking up a sub somewhere these gobs make you pick them right up and lay them on the counter. Laurie also does catering for events, parties, weddings and after reading some of the menus she has prepared and the accolades she gets, she’s found her niche, because she does it so well.
