I grew up in New Canaan over 20 years ago, and I brought my husband back to visit this past weekend to show him where I grew up. I used to frequent Togs during my time in NC and my lovely experiences from childhood sadly did not make their way to present-day. I was so excited to see that TOGS was still in business, and when I walked in, I couldn’t wait to see what was new/look for fun things to buy. But to my utter shock, not only did the 2 sales associates on the floor completely ignore me, when I approached her to ask for help, she turned away and completely refused to speak with me! I made eye contact and was walking towards her and at this point, any other sales associate would get the hint and ask if I needed any help. I would hate to think that this was racially motivated prejudice, but I did see her greet other new customers who walked in the door and approach others in the store who did not ask for help, so it leads me to believe that she was exhibiting unacceptable racist behavior. I am so disappointed that the level of warmth and customer service that I experienced in my childhood did not carry over to today, and I will not be a patron of this shameful place of business again.

Walked in there last week and they have become the rudest establishment in New Canaan. They have a horrible final sale return policy and even their sale items are over priced. They only carry small sizes so if you are a 6 and above, think again. When I finally went up to pay, I had to wait for one of the staff to check me out because they were all 4 workers were helping 1 woman. Then they didn’t even say thanks or have a nice day. It’s as if they were too good to even take my $ 50 for 1 shirt… on sale. If you don’t spend at least $ 200, they won’t even crack a smile… never going back.

I’m rating Togs three stars because of their return policy. For sidewalk sales their return policy is final sale and either cash or check as payment. For normal days their return policy is store credit ONLY and they will give you a price adjustment within 14 days but you still only get store credit. I think they are insane.

I love Togs. Literally, everything they carry is something I would wear, which is saying something. They carry a great selection of dresses. They also have jeans and t’s. But this store caters to a sophisticated client that would rather fill her closet with something more put together than jeans and t-shirts. It carries all the best brands — tons of Milly(one of the best selections of Milly I have ever seen — even better than big department stores), Theory, Elie Tahari, Shoshanna, Calypso, Ella Moss, Diane von Fustenburg, Susana Monaco, etc. They do have good sales. It’s a small, cute little boutique but it has a great selection.

Every time I come home, I always make sure I stop by Togs, especially if they’re having another one of their amazing sales. They have a great selection of basics and cocktail stuff from brands like CK Bradley, Milly, James Perse, Citizens, Ella Moss, etc., and in the back of the store is the killer sale corner…$ 50 Citizens? yes please. $ 50 Milly strapless dress? but of course. The women that work here are super nice and extremely helpful… during my sophomore year of college my parents were looking to repaint my room and I discovered that the wall color of Togs was exactly what I wanted. The manager called the owner and gave me all the info– Ralph Lauren Killington Traverse, just in case you’re looking to repaint your room.
