McCormick’s Irish Pub

I’m going to get nostalgic on you. i won’t call this place a dive bar. by all means, wear your diamonds and pearls, but don’t expect your white silk jacket to stay white. The wooden bar is old. you don’t know what has been spilled on it. the mirror behind the bar is decorated with postcards and stickers and is dusty.
in the early 90’s used to have my own barstool at this place. It had the best pool table for miles, was an old man’s bar by day and at night would fill up with the most beautiful men and women, and everything in between. punks and hippies and everything in between. the jukebox featured jefferson airplane and early grunge. the tables had game boards painted on them, and at the bar you could order chess pieces, backgammon, scrabble, checkers… it used to serve 20 beers on tap and had a wealth of microbrews, belgian ales, bitters, in bottles in addition to the usual standards.
they used to serve corned beef and cabbage on the 17^th of every month. they used to have an open mike on wednesday nights. i used to bring in a can of drum tobacco and we would sit and roll our own, smoke and drink til closing time. the ladies’ room was an artistic affair, too. When we had no air conditioning in the summer, we would come in at noon and stay til closing, never getting bored. we used to bring in food from el taqueria
or sometimes someone would order a pizza.
it did close for awhile. but the last time i stopped in i sat and drank with the owner. they didn’t have the array of beers anymore. we talked about the people who frequented it, most are still around.
In my dreams I still have a love affair with this place. What would it take to revive it?
this is still the only bar i will ever set foot in and not wish i were at mcCormick’s instead.

Best dive bar in the New Brunswick area by far. Cheap drinks and an awesome juke box and a pool table in back.
