Had a nice time here for happy hour! I got the 3 $ Frozen margharita. The chicken finger appetizer for 6 $ was so good! It came out hot and seasoned well. I also tried the spare ribs(also 6 $), which was really good and came out in a pretty big portion. The fishbowl is ginormous, comes with abor 10 straws to share, but is actually super easy to drink. Tasted just like juice. Also came with a plastic alligator(cute touch haha).

Jimmy’s is the best I eat at all of his restaurants. Food and service can’t be beat.

This is one of my family’s favorite spots to eat. Food is good and consistent. Recently the ribs have gone from good to awesome. It is the best bbq you will find in the area. The prices are reasonable and the atmosphere is kid friendly. We have been here at least 20 times and have not had a bad meal. The wait staff is very good and the kids enjoy the balloons they give out. If you are out with your family and need a solid place to go this is it.

Bro Js is poppin. As I just graduated Rutgers, this was definitely a spot that college students loved. The atmosphere is great, and their drinks are delish. My friends and I usually come here for their fish bowls, I just wish they had a couple different flavors rather than just one. But it’s still great and fun to drink with a group as it comes with a bunch of colorful straws! The food is pretty good too. Their humongous nachos are DELISH. So flavorful and you can’t go wrong with pulled pork or chicken. My one complaint is their mashed potatoes. There’s an earth taste to it, can’t think of the spice but wouldn’t get those again. Would recommend if looking for a fun place in the area.

While it seems like a lifetime ago when I used to hit Brother Jimmy’s on the UES, I remembered how much I loved getting ‘faced and chowing ribs like a tiger tearing into a wildebeast. Saw the neon sign beckoning me after wandering into New Brunswick. I scored a sweet parking right outside and fed the meter enough quarters for 40 minutes. Thought to myself…“Self…you’ve got plenty of time to grab a beer or two and maybe a rib or three.“ Self was wrong. Place was pretty empty, it was a weekday and happy hour just started, 4 pm. Atmosphere was perfect for a quick bite, but the staff was just ridiculously unattentive. Took about 10 minutes to get one beer in front of me. Ordered the burnt ends… and waited… and waited… and waited. Barkeep and some of the shift-changing servers were holding a pow-wow at the corner of the bar… major party foul in the restaurant world… instead of serving guests, they were serving each other and cattily complaining about how much they hate the new hostess hire. Checked the time, ugh… gotta run outside and feed the meter. Finally, food arrived. Had one more beer… then bounced. 3 stars, because the burnt ends were delicious, and I feel bad being too mean to Bro Jimmy. That said, there were maybe a dozen customers in the whole place and it took over an hour for me to have 2 beers and an appetizer.

Whaddya want? Real southern bbq? So go south! What it is: chain food, average and decent, well-served in a carefully curated faux ambience. A step above and a little different from the McAverage Chilis or TGI Friday’s, but much the same underneath. What it isn’t: any sort of a representation of real down-home barbecue. That isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but just know that you’re getting into … Drink your adult beverages and have fun!

Came for happy hour where my friends and I got some draft beers and frozen margaritas for $ 3 each. Decided to stick around since my Rutgers friends have yet to try this place and figured this would be opportune. I ordered a pulled pork sandwich while everyone else got some sides and other things to try and share. My friend’s brisket sandwich on Texas toast looked scrumptious and the nachos are certainly worth your money! My sandwich was alright. It’s not the best BBQ I’ve ever had but certainly enough to satisfy your craving for smoked meat if you’re in the area: D

Good time tonight! Enjoyed a great«Black Friday» meal with the family. The staff was friendly, the food nice and tasty. Loved the relaxed décor and good choice of strong drinks. The location is great, right next to the train in the middle of downtown. The BBQ wings are smokey and delicious!

Stopped in for the first time for happy hour and was pleasantly surprised! There are several great appetizers on their $ 6 happy hour menu(rib tips and nachos) that were huge, and well worth the money. The strawberry frozen margaritas were also tasty.

Great example of a 3.5 star place. The food is good, the atmosphere better, especially on a football night. Went here to watch one of the RU football games and eat dinner/have drinks. It’s definitely overall a younger crowd but I didn’t feel out place even though I had graduated college years ago. If you’re going to eat there get the short ribs app and the barbecue dinner. Anything else isn’t worth it. I had the chicken entrée and actually Ended up sharing my friends bbq dish because mine was just not great. Don’t ask for steam veggies because they don’t do them. They have these cool mixed drinks you can get in fish bowls which is fun for groups. The waitress was just ok and semi attentive, but she didn’t kick us out of our table when we transitioned from dinner and drinks to drinks only. That was really nice. They have TVs everywhere so this is the place to watch the game and order what they’re known for… BBQ!

I’m torn between 2 and 3 stars I went Monday night I had the all you can eat rib tips and buffalo wings they were pretty good when I put an order in for my second round it was terrible the ribs were so tough you couldn’t even chew them. I’m wondering if this was done on purpose so I wouldn’t order more. I will give them a try again maybe the NY location. They aren’t cheap which is odd smack dab in the middle of Rutgers land.

The BBQ here is ok but the real deal here are the 50 cent wings on Saturdays from 12−6pm. Perfect on college game day. They have a good selection of drinks and beers but the only beer special on Saturdays is $ 3 Coors on draft. Update: after eating here on a game day with 50 cent wings, my husband and I got sick with food poisoning. We think the chicken wasn’t cooked thoroughly bc of the high demand of wings coming out the kitchen.

Other than our waitress being rude, the place actually have a great set up. Nice bar, great seating arrangements with nice flat screens all over. The menu have great selections of different appetizers and entrees. Got the brisket panini sandwich and the cheesesteak sandwhich with melted cheese wiz and onions… It was perfect. The sides, I got sweet tater tots w spicy ketchup and mac and cheese. Wait service is good enough, I love the part when they hand the check and that’s when they start being nice to you thinking they’ll get a good tip for being mediocre.

Located on Easton Ave in the heart of Rutgers land, Brother Jimmy’s BBQ offers up a divey atmosphere and tons of BBQ meats for the passerby to enjoy. The crowd is most definitely younger and seeking to imbibe, but who can blame them? Everyone loves some BBQ. Let’s get to the food. Despite seeing their menu filled with different BBQ treats, I was actually craving nachos so we ordered the«humongous» nachos. And humongous they are. Served on a gigantic platter, the warm, fried chips were served with heaping helpings of guacamole, salsa, cheese, and sour cream. The chips also came with beans and your choice of pulled pork or chicken. This dish is definitely more than enough for two to share, and I was delightfully surprised at how well the BBQ flavors of the pork went so well with the nachos. As for the pork itself, it was flavorful and juicy and, though I am no BBQ expert, I was pretty satisfied with the overall quality. Also, don’t be afraid to use some of the table BBQ sauces on the chips — they come in three varieties: Original, Chipotle, and Carolina. Service-wise, our server was delightful and attentive. She definitely made sure we were taken care of, and she took the time to tell us about the various food options. It was a pretty busy night, but she made sure not to forget about us. As for the other food items, I wouldn’t be able to attest to them, but based on the nachos and service alone, this place is a 4-star restaurant.

I’m unimpressed with the restaurant. While the aesthetics were very nice, I found the food lacking. Specifically, the cheesesteak tasted like corned beef, the chicken wings had a bad aftertaste, and the turkey wrap was lack luster. None of my party finished the food nor did we take it home. The prices were fair and the service was good. What saved this for me was our waitress as well as the bar. The drinks were good and overall experience fair. I will go back for drinks but not for food. To be fair, I am from the south so my expectations could have been biased.

Brother Jimmys is a great spot that needed to come to new Brunswick for a long time. In a city that’s starting to boom, a bar and eatery like this was definitely welcomed. The menu is to expect, American styled bbq… Flavors from all over but definitely has its northeast feel opposed to Texan or Carolina bbq… And obviously nothing less mainstream like a NOLA taste. Not bad dishes, they seem a bit too franchised with flavor and portions though,… Which really stinks because if chefs put their own flare into it… It would be alot better. Service is either good or bad with no in between… You have your standard workers that do their job well and the other half that just is there to make a few bucks to spend at knight club later. The drinks and bartenders are spot on. Really good work here I love pickle backs, the margaritas as well as a few other of their cocktails… Somewhat pricey for the new Brunswick area. Overall, its not bad… The biggest thing holding this place down is that it’s pricing makes no sense for the new Brunswick area… It’s the same as NYC location. This place, while doesn’t attract nightlife, could do better if they adjusted slightly to the college clientele

I never got a chance to sit in and dine before, but I’ve been here a few times for the bar! They offer a great variety of drinks and awesome deals on certain days and holidays! The deals can be amazingly cheap, such as $ 2 beers and $ 5 shots. The last time I came here on a Friday, and the bar was popping! This place can be very crowded in the bar area when the restaurant closes, so I would recommend you to come early for the bar. If not, it may be hard to get to the bar, let alone getting a spot to stand. Last Halloween, I came by around 10pm, and there was an event to attract more people. Whoa, this bar was packed! I came with 5 other friends, and we gave up cause it was too crowded! I’ve heard great things about the Swamp Water, so I will definitely come back someday to check it out!

Second visit found the staff much more attentive and very energetic. The Southern ribs are really excellent – rivals to Mighty Quinn and the fries were much better than before. . Frequent specials – check the website. I wish street parking were easier.

After reading quite a few reviews before coming here, I was expecting to be disappointed in the service and the quality of food. However I didn’t experience any of this! The waitress that was serving us was very personable and efficient. For appetizers my friend and I ordered the nachos. Beware. This is a meal by itself. It cannot be classified as appetizer. For the nachos we ordered the backed beans and pulled chicken to the side instead of on the nachos. For the main dish, I ordered the catfish(I took the fried option) and my friend had the country fried steak with gravy. When the food came, we did not expect humongous portions to greet us. Suffice to say we had to take majority of the food to go just because we couldn’t finish. The food was very good however the sides such as corn bread, mac and cheese, and mashed potatoes were average at best.
