I’ve been back a few times now(4 total I think). It hasn’t changed. Now, some might think that’s a bad thing, that’s actually very very good, it’s consistent. If you expect something one time, and expect it the next time, you’re going to get it here, and I LOVE that. Still haven’t changed my preference to Texas style BBQ and what they serve here, but again, it’s got a great flavor, and it’s a great easy in and out«pit stop» to where ever you’re going

i love bbq. i’m not the most experienced in the genre ever, but i have family in the midwest, whom have been gracious enough to expose me to some really, really good bbq. unfortunately, pit stop does not deliver. stopped in saturday afternoon, looking to bring home some grub for myself and family members. ended up ordering the bbq pulled pork and slaw in a hot dog bun, chili cheese dog, large bbq pulled pork sandwich, and cuban sandwich. (just to clarify– they offer bbq pulled pork, or carolina pulled pork. i opted for bbq, as i prefer a nice, thick sauce over the traditional vinegar-based carolina sauces. that said– sauce was largely absent…) bbq pork & slaw, and chili cheese dog were eaten happily(not by me), without any comment. my cuban was… different. i’ve had cuban sandwiches all over and absolutely love them. this was one good, but, again, different… they used bread & butter pickles, as opposed to dill, and included pickled jalepenos. sandwich was well-pressed and flavors melded well. i would have preferred more mustard, but overall, a good sandwich. my large bbq pork sandwich was another story. i’m all for smoke flavor, but that’s the only thing this meat tasted of– smoke. and, not good smoke. kinda like, cigarette smoke. i don’t know what wood they use, but i believe the meat would greatly benefit from using a wood from a fruit tree, such as cherry or apple. additionally, i was pretty disappointed after my five minute drive home to find that the meat had entirely saturated the underwhelming grinder roll in which it was encased. maybe toast the darn thing, so it as least stands a chance? i’m not saying everything here is a lost cause, but perhaps greater attention should be paid to sandwich construction, as well as toppings. had my meat been smoked differently, and some fresh onion, slaw, and cheddar cheese topped the sandwich, you might be looking at a thing of beauty.

To clarify an earlier review, they do take credit cards with the Square app, however they prefer cash for sure. This is a mom and pop type operation, and unfortunately my experience wasn’t the best. I have had bbq everywhere from down south to the woods of VT and have some good and bad stories. With my experience of over 30 different bbq establishments I feel I have a good idea of what BBQ should be. I ordered the BBQ Beef and a hot dog. Most places when you order beef you get a nice juicy brisket, smoked and falling apart… similar to a pot roast but tasting way better. Sliced against the grain. You also get a selection of sauces, all home made. Sadly at Pit Stop, I got neither a juicy piece of brisket or home made sauce. They don’t offer a platter, only sandwich, so I asked for the meat without the bun, which they accommodated with a slight snicker. The meat was gristly, rubbery, tough and almost no smoked flavor. It felt more like it was covered with a few spices and thrown on a grill for a few minutes before being refrigerated and then microwaved before being served. The cuts didn’t seem to be a brisket but some other cut. The sauce reminded me of Sweet Baby Ray’s…which is an ok sauce but shouldn’t be found in a REAL bbq joint. The hot dog was a small pork/beef style dog you get at the grocery store, boiled and served in an untoasted bun. The prices were fair, the place is so tiny it couldn’t hold the three Asplundh workers plus me in it without the door alarm going off. With a store so small why do you have a door alarm? Overall if you’re looking for a cheap lunch and don’t want to hit McDonalds, this is a step up. However if you’re looking for a yummy hole in the wall with some serious BBQ flavor and quality, pass it by, you will be disappointed if you stop.

I grew up in the South and have eaten my far share of all different BBQ styles. This place does not cut it. I’ve had several things on the menu. The meat quality sucks. The place is dirty. The bread for the sandwiches is blah and the side dishes blow. Sorry, I know I sound like Debby Downer but I come in to order my food and proceeded to watch a 3 – 4 year old run around playing in the kitchen while they prepared my food. The child had toys and other random stuff on the very dirty floor which he then put on top of the counter. He was also reaching in the drawers and touching the plastic utensils for customers as well as lids for the food containers. It made me not want to eat my food. I’m sorry to have to give such a poor review but I won’t be back. We threw away the leftovers because they weren’t worth saving. Don’t waste your time. Not that there are many any acceptable BBQ places in CT, but this was the worst.

This is some of the best, if not the best, pork BBQ in CT. I was born and raised in the South, lived in Carolina for four years, and love pulled pork. Pit Stop BBQ delvers! The pork is tender and doesn’t come with fat and other«items» that seem to make their way into most BBQ. The sides a great and homemade. Homemade soups are offered daily and change deepening upon customer suggestions. The owner even offers gluten-free bread, all the meat(chicken or pork) are antibiotic and growth hormone free. And to top it all off, the prices are more than fair. Do realize it is a small place primarily for take out.

Strictly a takeout place, Pit Stop BBQ is little more than a counter and a kitchen dug out of a hole in the wall. Also know that they take CASHONLY. This is a slight inconvenience, but tax is included in all their pricing, which is a nice gesture. I guess they’re just doing what they must to save money in a tough small business environment. I ordered a quarter pan of pulled pork for the Super Bowl the next day. It was nice to know that they could accommodate my needs on such short notice. It was $ 30, which would have been well worth it for the five pounds of pulled pork I was given, but I had a coupon which brought it down to $ 20. The pulled pork was VERY tender. I had to add my own sauce, but no matter, it made for some great Super Bowl Sunday sandwiches. The lady behind the counter was very nice too. She suggested the quarter pan based on the number of people, and it was perfect. One big drawback: the hours. They’re only open from 10 – 2, Monday thru Saturday. Again, this is probably a function of the tough economy… I hear you can call them off hours for special orders and catering. Thanks!
