Kindred Transitional Care and Rehabilitation – Avery

This was honestly the WORST place I have ever seen. If your Family member is here, you need to get them out ASAP! The staff is horrendous and the mangers are even worse. My Uncle was in there a day and a half and I had him removed. Please, PLEASE take your family members out of this place!!!

My mother (87 yrs old) was at this facility following a hospitalization (coumadin related — no physical injury) which left her sleep deprived and suffering from delirium.
Avery tried to move her to a dementia unit (oddly, they omitted that fact when they informed me of the move) — I demanded she be returned to a normal floor. It took two weeks more and my hiring a private patient advocate before they re-​instituted her normal pain patch (lower back) which meant she could sleep and the resulting delirium finally started to clear.
No matter what I said — the «professional» staff expected senior dementia and treated her as that, and ONLY that.
While many of the Avery staff were kind they are chronically understaffed and there is no such concept as elderly «rehabilitation.» It is only warehousing.
Once she was out — she thrived with a home aide in her own environment. A fraction of her costs spent at Avery would have easily covered a more effective home care rehabilitation. Of course, the institutions have sown up the medicare/​insurance rules to exclude home care.
She is now living independently at her Assisted Living apartment — exactly what she was doing before this hospitalization.
Advice — hire a patient advocate, do not let the hospital pressure you to take any rehab.
Avery «may» be OK if you are young and can lobby for your rights — but I would not recommend this center for elderly.

Great facility. Went here to visit relative and the facility was top notch.
