My husband described this to me as a good«meat and three». Overall I wasn’t thoroughly impressed. I like the faith-based décor on the walls. Even though the restaurant was small they seemed to be lacking in staff with three servers. I suppose we hit them at a busy time. I never saw the manager smile. She was quick to pick up the slack when the servers were slow moving in seating customers but she never greeted them. «Just two today?» and that was all. She actually looked someone panicked every time the door opened but I guess I can’t generalize what she was feeling. I personally like a smile as if someone is happy you’re there, even if it is fake. Our food took about 20 – 25 minutes which is far too long in my opinion. I had a grilled chicken sandwich and coleslaw and my husband had catfish, beans, and turnip greens. He said his meal was so so. Plus they forgot hush puppies but by that point he didn’t have the energy to ask since we waited so long. The chicken sandwich was very good but the coleslaw needs work. They put onions and green peppers in it. No, no, and no. The back of the staff shirt says«Country as Cornbread» so I assumed that cornbread might be their thing. Our server made it a point to tell us that our meals did not come with cornbread. I would have thought we would have gotten some as free bread like you do at other restaurants. Just an idea if you’re going to put it on the staff shirts.

The best breakfast I’ve ever had. So simple and delicious. We both had the smokey mountain eggs with the hash brown casserole and a split a side of waffles. 20 $ and we left stuffed and satisfied.

I was so impressed with this place! It was a cute setup with a very country feel. People were so friendly and the food was amazing! I’m mad I just now discovered it. But I will be back!

Around the table we had: Waffle breakfast for our two Littles, biscuits and gravy, smokey mountain eggs, and chicken and waffles. We all enjoyed the entire meal. Although I prefer crispy waffles, the rest of the fam doesn’t. The chicken was moist, the biscuits just right, and the hash brown casserole was really good. All at a very affordable price. My college son said he would be back.

I give this 4 stars cause it is exactly what it is supposed to be: no frills, basic good southern style food. I was there peak of lunch hour. They were busy, but I was quickly seated and served. Service was very fast, and friendly. Tried my basic gauge for this kind of place: meatloaf, mashed potatoes, and green beans, with a cornbread muffin. It was good, nice portions. The dish could have used some gravy, but it was ok without it. I’ll return, try breakfast.

This was a horrid dining experience the mac & cheese was soup like my friends pork chop wasn’t cooked all the way I had my check on my table before I was asked how my food was. I guess we didn’t qualify for dessert… lol… I WILLNOTBERETURNINGTOTHISESTABLISHMENT. First impression is the lasting impression!!! The«fried corn» is just canned cream corn & the table behind me had to find their own server after being here 15 mins just to get drinks. Smh… the server just grabbed food from one plate with her hand & put it on another & served it. YUCKYUCKYUCK

I give four stars because our family has had good to great experiences since we’ve started going on a regular basis. We’ve typically enjoyed the food, especially breakfast. One thing that Vittles could work on to make me happier– consistency. Every now and again I can’t help but feel that things are loose in the back. The servers are constantly turning over(which feels weird for this type of restaurant) and the food has on occasion fallen short… not terrible, just inconsistent. I recommend this place to friends, but with a little caveat…

The service was quick. The food was fresh and delicious. I had the Mountain Eggs. The portion size was large and a great value. The coffee is really good too. I’m so pleased to have a great breakfast place in the area!

This was simply THE best catfish I have ever eaten. My wife had the chicken & dumpings. She said the dumplings were chewy, but the chicken was plentiful, and tasty.

My sis and I stopped in around lunch time on a weekday. The service was friendly and the food was decent. It definitely did not live up to the hype; my Aunt says it’s one of her favorite places in Nashville. There are much better places in Nashville, in my opinion. We tried the fried chicken. It was pretty good but the sides were blah. You can also find much better fried chicken in Nashville. The place itself could use some updating, but I care more about food and service than ambiance. Service was good; food was average. I have been told my numerous people that if liver is your thing, this is one of the best places in Nashville for liver. I can’t really comment as I don’t care for liver.

My husband and I were near this location and were in a hurry! We had not left enough time with traffic and eating to get to the event we were heading to in time. We walked into Vittles and asked about how long it takes to get food, one of the employees told us it takes maybe 5 – 10 minutes so we decided to risk it. The décor is definitely lacking, I know its in a strip center but it feels pretty dingy inside. I was a little hesitant to stay when we walked in, it was only because the girls working were so friendly! We sat down and immediately picked out our dinner and the server was very attentive to make sure we kept our time there as short as possible. It only took about 10 minutes to get our food and it was alright. We decided to share chicken fried chicken with a side of mashed potatoes, lima beans and green beans. The green beans and lima beans were nothing spectacular, the type of beans you would expect out of a can. The mashed potatoes were a bit cold and the chicken fried chicken was really salty. We ate it and the server brought us our bill quickly and we were out of there in a timely manner! They were really great to accommodate our time constraint and the girls working were very friendly, the food just wasn’t very outstanding.

The food was delicious, the staff was nice as could be and the prices for the portions were unbeatable. I most definitely recommend this place if you like good old country southern cooking!

Not good food, but good service. Honestly, I do not get this place. They are all about«serving my ma’s the best cookin…» bla bla bla but their food is not made from scratch and it is not good in the conventional way. I am not going to come back. What saved them from a one star is that the service is excellent! Super nice and helpful staff.

This was The Dinner Bell when I was a girl, my grandparents took me here often and it is a very fond memory. After they passed, and although the restaurant changed names and owners, my friends and family stuck with it. The food and service had always been fine and I enjoyed the nostalgia. We were regulars, sometimes three or four times a week! Sadly, my friends and family will no longer be going to this location for our meals. On several occasions I have been witness to overhearing a great deal of yelling and cursing coming from the back of the establishment, and have noticed a GREAT deal of turnover. I started to pay closer attention because I know that a lot of turnover in an establishment is usually a bad sign, and I was curious about all the yelling. On some visits I noticed the usually peppy, friendly server girls looking very nervous and not acting their selves. I then took it upon myself to ask a few of the past employees, who I had gotten to know over the time they worked there and I saw out other places, as to why this is such. I was shocked beyond belief to learn that they are very poorly treated by their boss, and even more horrifying, some of the kitchen staff are made to cross-contaminate the kitchen, and even the food, when sanitary items, like gloves, are senselessly not ordered by the owners. I know from working in restaurants many years myself how important it is for good sanitary precautions to be in place. It’s a very big«no no» to cross-contaminate a kitchen, whether you are a business or just in your home. I have children, I wouldn’t chop up meat and then put a plate or bowl that I am about to serve to them on that same spot without thoroughly washing that spot first. But, that is exactly what some of the staff are instructed to do at Vittles! The past employees also complained that they were possibly stolen from because their paychecks never came out right. My fellow man and Nashvillans are being mistreated, stolen from, and potentially poisoned. From the outside, Vittles of Donelson looks like a loving, family oriented business, but I assure you, they are not. This review hurts my heart. I held Vittles very close to it as a continuance of my memories of people I loved very much. However, I can no longer risk my families health for mere memories, and I can no longer support such an establishment.

I’m a huge fan of this place. The food is great, and they give a lot of it! The prices are very competitive, so with a large family it is very helpful. The only suggestions I would like to see happen is better table and chairs, they are old and often sticky. I would also like to see them upgrade their coffee ;-)

Good Southern cooking. Sit and be sever style. The only menu item not to my liking are the greens. A bit too much vinegar. Props to the fried chicken and chicken fried steak in white gravy

I would give less than one star if possible. I ordered food. The waitress felt the need to the waitress that took my order that this was her table. This set the tone. The check was delivered before the water. That made no sense to me. The hashbrowns were cold in the middle and room temperature on the outside. The eggs were cooked but were cold as well. The bacon, toast and water were fine. The waitress asked before I took a bite if I needed anything else. I never saw her again. She was suppose to check me out. So I finally went to the front of the store and had to wait for the waitress to check me out. I literally took 2 bites of hash browns and three bites of eggs. I hate half a slice of toast and half a strip of bacon. She never asked if something was wrong with the food. Never returned to refill the water. The waitress was very friendly with other patrons. They seemed to know her or were regulars. I don’t get it how people are ranking them high. My guess is that they had a different cook. I saw nothing redeeming about this restaurant for me. But again, they were friendly to others perhaps I need to know them to be treated with any type of respect. Good luck if you go.

We were very disappointed when we arrived that they only serve breakfast until 10:30 on Sunday. We arrived at 10:35. Staff was awesome. Everyone very friendly. Club sandwich was good. Made on sour dough bread. Fries good too. Hubby had country fried steak. Said it was a bit bland.

I had a great time here. I had the country fried steak and free waffles! My service was quick and the wait staff were exceptional. The food was ok. I’ve had better but it’s a nice place to grab a quick breakfast.
