My wife and I tried this at the Great Food Truck Festival. I had previously coined the phrase«canned country cooking» after a bad restaurant experience elsewhere. For this food truck, the experience was«cold, canned country cooking.» We waited in line for half an hour. In addition to the festival being slammed with visitors, the guy running this truck was working by himself, making for a long wait. The food came out cold. Cold chicken and dumplings, that was made with canned cream of chicken soup. The macaroni and cheese used powdered cheese and perhaps Velveeta. The corn was canned. My wife’s mashed potatoes were homemade, but bland, and she commented that she can make better(she is a good cook). The man’s truck proclaims he uses his Dearest Nannie’s recipes. I think not, at least not from-scratch recipes. We live in the South; I would expect better country cooking from someone claiming to use old family recipes.

I tried this food truck at an event in Centennial Park. It said they fixed their southern food«just like Nannie». I don’t know who their«Nannie» was, but she must have made everything from a box or a can. I ordered the veggie plate with 4 sides so I could try several options– the macaroni and cheese, southern green beans, broccoli salad and the tomatoes and cucumbers. If that macaroni was anything but Kraft or Sysco, I would be shocked, and the green beans were straight out of a can. Considering how many good Meat and Three’s we have in Nashville, I can’t believe they would insult our intelligence by advertising that it’s «Authentic Country Cooking». Very disappointing.

Food was good. Cooked with little salt but easy fix with a shake or two. Fine people running this truck. Well worth the $ 6.50(cash) $ 7.00(credit) for a food truck meal.

Wasn’t bad. Had the chicken and dumplings with green beans and tomato cucumber salad. Everything was made well, just wasn’t too exciting. I thought the prices were fair. The owner came over while I was eating to check on me and see how I liked my food. It was a nice touch and showed how much he cared about his business and the product he was putting out. His daughter was in the truck with him and you could tell it was a labor of love. I would definitely support this family business again in the future. The desserts sounded really yummy but I was full, but next time I will try a dessert. I loved the griddle cornbread which to me was by far the star of the show. It was not too greasy at all and had a lot of flavor.

This truck came to my work yesterday and I had been wanting to try it for awhile now. Sadly, it just wasn’t what I had hoped for. I ordered the 4 sides meal for $ 6.50. I got mashes potatoes, creamy corn, green beans and cinnamon apple sauce. The applesauce was so delicious, however the rest was luke warm and lacking. The portions were very tiny too… not what I thought I’d be getting since the plate was considered a meal and since it was expensive. The meal also came with fried cornbread, but it was literally dripping with so much grease I couldn’t eat it. Being a girl raised on some of the best Southern food there is, I tend to have high expectations for meat and 3’s. Great concept, but definitely not my favorite truck. I probably wouldn’t try it again.

We tried this place at the street food festival in Centennial Park, so I am that much more disappointed considering the other things I could have tried. This truck is a Meat-n-3 on wheels, but being a Nashville native this was a poor representation of such. The food was bland, and felt like school cafeteria food or something you get at summer camp. I had Salsbury Steak with mashed potatoes and turnip greens. The sides were wayyy under seasoned, and the Salsbury steak tasted like something out of a lean cuisine meal. My food actually looked better than my friends who ordered a «grilled» chicken sandwich… now if that chicken was anything other than a frozen fake grilled patty then I am Bob Ross. It’s so disappointing to see someone advertise, and I quote, «made from scratch» recipes when clearly these are canned items that have been doctored up and stored in large chaffing dishes to then be plopped on my plate. I wouldn’t be surprised if the deserts were actually pretty good, or some of the entrees, but if you can’t be proud of everything you serve then don’t do it. They were busy, so things could be better on a day when they aren’t as busy, but it would take a miracle to get me to spend my dollars here again. If you want meat-n-3, eat at Dangures.

During Food Truck FEASTival, I decided to hit up ‘Just Like Nannie Fixed It’ for the dessert portion of my day. As a result, this review is for the service provided by Nannie’s, the pricing of their desserts only, and the final taste of the dessert itself. (And, it’s a good thing too because the poor guy’s generator died right as I walked up so he couldn’t have prepared me any main courses anyhow.) The dessert list sounded amazing: Chess Pie«On Steroids» Giant Banana Bread Nannie’s Cheesecake I’ll take one of each please… OK, that’s a lie… I only tried one. But I would have loved to have had all 3 if I hadn’t already been trying to rack on the calories that day by trying or re-trying just about every food truck in the parking lot. The Banana Bread was my choice. It was definitely jumbo-sized, as in the size of Mike Meyer’s head in the old SNL skits when he played his Scottish father telling him«Head MOVE!». As a result of its size, the piece of banana bread was both moist in the middle and dry on the outer edges. It’s just tough to make a great all-around piece of banana bread, I would imagine, when you make the thing so gi-normous. And, at a price of $ 3, I’m not sure the value equation is quite there. Overall, I would like to try Nannie’s main courses and the dessert was not all that bad so I am going to give them an A-OK rating and try to find them out and about at another event soon.

Tried the food truck«Just Like Nannie Fixed It» today. I wasn’t impressed. I am sure the intentions are good. It seemed like a lot of it was from a can or a box. Not very home made and very little seasoning. The carrot cake was definitely from a box with packaged icing. Most people like this but compared to other southern type cooking and other food trucks I would expect more to be made from scratch. The truck and logo say Authentic Country Cooking.

So a new addition to Nashville’s food truck renaissance is Just Like Nannie Fixed it. This is a mobile meat and three restaurant. I visited it on its stop in Metro Center. God knows we need some better food options over there! Plus they had a big sign that said their health score was 100 so don’t be skerred. So they have things like chicken and dumplings, meatballs, meatloaf, chicken dishes, etc. Then they have sides like mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, green beans, carrots, mac and cheese, cole slaw, etc. And desserts like cobblers and banana pudding. Not too shabby. I tried the meatballs that were advertised as sweet and spicy with mashed potatoes and green beans. The meatballs were in no way, shape, or form spicy but they were tasty. They taste like those meatballs you make in the crock pot with grape jelly and chili sauce(seriously, google it if you’ve never had them!). Since I have made those meatballs for almost every party I ever had at my house I was pleased. Special treat out of nowhere! Mashed potatoes were ok. Green beans were good. Overall very nice lunch and I didn’t have to go far to get it! Give them a try if you see them around.
