Joey’s House of Pizza is the real deal. The service is always top-notch, which is very important to me. A real family business. If you choose to go, and the line is going out the door… please be patient… Joey’s is a well oiled machine. They are lightning fast. The food and over-all experience are ALWAYS worth it. I have never had anything bad here. ANYTHING! Lets face it, the Gladiator is to die for. It is quite literally all of the cheese, pepperoni and sausage stuffed in a crust one person can handle. You had better be hungry; it takes a real Gladiator to finish this masterly crafted slice of Pizza heaven. The Lasagna is AMAZING. The best I have had anywhere. The Cannolis are wonderful, as is the Tiramisu. Just know, you would probably have to take the dessert with you as you’re not going to have room. If I had a complaint, it would be the hours. It sucks to have a craving for their pizza in the evening and it’s unattainable. However, any restaurant that thrives as they do, and is only open 4 hours a day Monday through Friday, you know they are doing it right!!!

BEST pizza in the Nashville area. Felt like I was in NYC or Jersey. Define must go to pizza joint. The staff is quick, on point, but know what you want before walking in the door. They don’t waste time.

Best place in town for New York style pizza. You can taste that it’s family owned. All the food is made with care and it shows. The family is great and the atmosphere is organized chaos. Gotta love it. Recommendations: — The Gladiator — ANY slice of pizza — Meatlovers roll — Meatball sub

I tried the gladiator pizza and I am not thrilled with it at all. It’s is really salty and super greasy. I was expecting something amazing at the price of 7.50 per slice. The restaurant is super busy so I assumed I found pizza gold in Nashville. I have yet to find a pizza that is as great as pizza in Chicago. After you order pizza from this place you wait for them to call the pizza you ordered, which can be confusing because it’s like 6 other people waiting as well. So your not sure if what they are calling out is your pizza or someone else’s. I was also shocked because I asked how much a whole gladiator pizza cost and the guy said it ranges from I believe 37 – 45 bucks. So I just order two slices. I’m an very disappointed that I ordered two.

It doesn’t get much better than NY style pizza with a sassy lady slinging pizza paddles. Run by a family, Joey’s is a great place to go for an authentic NY experience in Donelson, TN. Be careful to not hold up the line, speak too soft, or not pay attention because you will get yelled at. But let’s be real, that’s part of the experience! During the week lots of people go for lunch(especially Fridays) but getting the lunch special is a must. Two slices, a salad and drink is the perfect break in a crazy work day. Get out there and try it!

Well my previous review was 3 stars and I gave it another shot and I still can’t seem to give you all 5. Last time it was the infamous«cheesy plate situation» this time it was something entirely different. I called at 11:06 am to order a pizza for pick up. I was told it wouldn’t be ready until 1:20 pm. Ok then, I went ahead and placed the order. Arrived right at 1:20 pm as instructed and my pizza wasn’t ready. I had to wait for it to be made right then which took an additional 30 minutes? I’m sorry but that’s just ridiculous. The place was crazy busy. A line all the way to the bathrooms. All the people in line were getting their food without really having to wait that long which was even more irritating. I waited 2 hours to get a pizza because I was told I couldn’t order one until then, place the order for the two hour delay time and then stand and watch everyone in line get their orders well ahead of myself who called ahead! Unbelievable. Looks like somethings just aren’t meant to be my friend. I wish you the best though. Just not worth the irritation for me.

This is a family owned restaurant; and I love that about Joey’s! I work for a family owned Chiropractors office; and Stephanie(daughter of the owners) just happened to call our office for an appointment! We were happy to have her, after talking with her for a while and her smelling like pizza, we agreed to order lunch from her family’s pizza place the next day! My dad has always said he has never met a bad pizza, that is the truth with this place! It is true New York Style Pizza, this pizza pie takes you straight to New York! I would recommend Joey’s, to anyone looking for a pizza pie during the hours of 11am-3pm! They also have the best cannoli’s in town!

We were in Nashville and tired of BBQ so we started looking for«New York» style pizza. This led us to Joey’s after a few recommendations. I was just in New York and had a slice at «Famous» Rays(don’t ask which one aren’t here like a hundred there?) So I can compare them Quite well. Like an NYC pizza place they sell by the slice(and if you ask for a pie when you’re in the store be prepared for the GLARE and wait. Otherwise do like your supposed to and get a slice. Well all 4 of us went for the«Gladiator» their signature slice. When one One of Our party asked for a plain slice in addition he was forewarned by the waitress @ are you sure about that? Well he was but he lived to regret it that night I can tell you.(and as a big guy he nearly finished both but the gladiator won!) The Gladiator SLAYED us all! About 2 pounds of cheesey goodness. It was a slice of thin crust pizza with a nice high walked«edge» to contained the oozing mass that is the gladiator. It was about a half inch of cheese on with sauce on it a usage another half inch of cheese and pepperoni. The thin crust was light and airy which is what I wish my bowels felt like that evening. The gladiator went in easily and hastily but did not want to leave the same way. Needless to say it took a few trips on the morning to leave joeys behind(but definitely worth the visit)

4.5 A house of pizza sounds like a pretty awesome place in which to live. Since moving back to Nashville, I’d heard over and over that I needed to check Joey’s out. Thing is, the hours didn’t really match well with my schedule. When I had occasion to have a post-event lunch meeting somewhere, though, I knew just where to schedule it. At least, I thought. You know how I mentioned earlier that I’d heard over and over about Joey’s? Yeah, well that translates into a packed house(of pizza). Parking can be a bit tight and seating can be an issue. The wait isn’t all that bad relative to demand to crowds. So, plan on parking on the street somewhere(don’t even think about the lot) and keep an eye out for open seats at any table and slide in where you fit in. Oh, and don’t bring a bunch of people. This is a 2 – 3(tops) person place. Got all the rules? Good. Now, gets ta eatin’. I don’t eat as much pizza as I used to. These days, the abundance of cheese turns my belly a bit. I think it’s because I’m no longer 22(it’s hard to believe but true). I wanted to attack the Gladiator but I knew my gut didn’t have it in me. So, while I was waiting in line to order, my lunch companion walked me through what I should try: pizza rolls, pizza by the slice, calzone, and/or salad. This was useful. At a place as busy as Joey’s and with as many regulars, don’t gum up the works by asking questions, hemming and hawing. There’s a machine at work. Be a part of it. I ordered a slice of pepperoni and a slice of cheese. I figured if this was a NYC-style pizza joint, I should get NYC-inspired slices so as to get the full on experience. I also ordered a root beer because it’s a scientific fact that root beer is the soda that pairs best with pizza. As I ordered and paid, I chatted up Joey’s daughter a bit(she was working the line/register). What a nice person! In fact, everyone with whom I interacted was really nice. There’s a family feel at Joey’s and it doesn’t take much to be a part of it. That’ a huge plus. Within no time(relative to my expectations), my food was ready. My lunch partner and I spied a four top being used by one person so we asked to sit and the singleton agreed. Good form. Before I could dig in to my slices, my buddy ordered me to try either some of his pizza roll of the Gladiator. I opted for the roll. It was legit. It was a full on NYC memory in my mouth. It made me excited for the pizza. Yep. This is it. NYC-style, without a doubt. As I folded and ate, I wondered if Joey had a reservoir of NYC water in the back. For me, my favorite part of a NYC slice is the crust and Joey’s delivered admirably. The sauce to cheese ratio was perfect as was the flavor/seasoning of the sauce. The pepperoni were plentiful and fresh(not that hard, chewy things you sometimes find in pizza joints). This is the real deal. The limited hours are a sign of the success of the shop. When you can close by 3 during the week and not open during the weekends, you’re living right. It may be an effort to get to Joey’s but the reward is worth it.

Yup, this place is the real deal! This is worth a 5-star rating. I’ve always wondered how a restauranteur can move to the South from another city and open a business only to have it lose some of its original taste. Whether it’s a family emigrating from a foreign country, or simply immigrating to Nashville from the Northeast, their cuisine seems to lose something, even with a chain restaurant. Perhaps the ingredients can’t be duplicated here, just as a Southern restaurant opening in New York doesn’t quite taste the same either. It’s a mystery to me. But when this family moved here from Brooklyn in 1988, they managed to do the impossible by not sacrificing any quality in their product! Yes my friends, it’s a rare feat. The Sicilian masterpieces they produce every day taste exactly like the pies manufactured in the best pizza joints NYC has to offer! This cheesy, gooey, greasy, foldable goodness will take your tastebuds to Manhattan with every bite, and the sauce and toppings are oh so perfect. Let me say this. I am convinced my son was born without tastebuds, something he got from my beloved wife. For me personally, food is my life!!! Not so much for the other two-thirds of my family. When we eat at New York’s legendary Lombardi’s and they tell me they can’t differentiate between that pizza and Dominos, I feel like beating my head against the wall. My wife and son simply eat to live, whereas I live to eat!!! There are only two occasions where my son has ever said«That food was amazing!» in his lifetime. Dreamland BBQ in Birmingham and Joey’s House of Pizza. Congratulations Joey, you can even reach the tasteless!

Joey and the famiglia are good people. This is without hesitation the best pizza in Nashville, and you could go so far and say the best Italian food in Nashville. Its that good. I am a food guy, and especially a pizza guy, and there is nothing close(ok, Manny’s House of Pizza — but hey they are brothers, capitusto!) I wish they were open longer hours, and on weekends, but seriously, when the food is this good… you don’t have to even be open in the evenings or weekends. Good Italian people, good Italian family, great Italian food. 3

Amazing! As a New York native the search to find the perfect pizza place in Nashville has been a long and hard one. I am happy to announce the search has ended! Today I tried just a cheese Slice, spinach roll, and a plain cannoli. The slice was exactly like NY pizza and the cannoli is probably one of the best I’ve had. My only complaint was that the spinach roll was just a bit too garlicky. The staff were all amazing and friendly despite being ridiculously busy. They were on top of everything and the food came out quick! Will definitely be coming back. Thanks guys!

First ate here in the late ‘90s when they were in Cool Springs in a small space in a nondescript strip mall on Moores Lane. But even then they had a big business and brought in the country stars, including Garth Brooks. I think Joey’s has the best pizza in Nashville, served by the nicest people.

A coworker suggested Joey’s for an afternoon lunch, and I’m so glad we went! It was right around the lunch rush, and it was busy, but not unbearably so. As you travel through the line, you get to watch all the action in the kitchen. I’m fairly convinced they’ve got Superwoman working back there — she was ON it. It was fun to watch her work! I ordered a slice of pizza and a cannoli. The slice was huge — thin, but really tasty! The cannoli was very good, too. Wish I could’ve tried more, but I was stuffed! Everyone left full and happy. This place is simple in nature, but they know their stuff and do it well. Great pizza!

Came here for lunch around 2:15 on a Thursday. The place is only open until 3pm, and I was surprised at the amount of people in there at that time… it was busy! My experience was pretty hectic. I ordered the Gladiator, which I’ve heard so much about. And a chocolate cannoli. After about 15 minutes of waiting(all my friends had gotten their food), I went back to the counter to check on my food. They told me they were out of the Gladiator and had just put another in the oven, and it’d be about 15 minutes. About 15 minutes later, still wasn’t ready. They told me I should just get a pizza roll, because it’s pretty much the same thing. Reluctantly, I did. I was running out of time, and needed to get back to work. The pizza roll was good. Chock full of cheesy, greasy, pepperoni goodness. I still wish I could have had the Gladiator though. And the cannoli was very good!

Read the reviews and had to try it. Great pizza, but not the best I have ever had. Atmosphere was cool, crowded but something you need to try. I wish I had read reviews on how to order. When you walk in the door there is normally a line and there are cards in a display rack to pick out your order. We just walked in and went thru the line. I had a couple of slices of pizza and my wife had the piazza rolls. We will go back when we are in town.

A breath of fresh air. I’ve been looking for a pizza joint just like the way they do it in NJ/NY. I’ve finally found it. The atmosphere hit me with nostalgia and I was back at home haha. The only problem were their hours. I wish they were open later throughout the day but other than that I’m definitely coming back.

This place has the best pizza I’ve ever tasted. I think I’ve tired just about everything on the menu. When I first tired Joey’s they were in Brentwood, and very close to my office. The women in my department would take turns picking up lunch. On Fridays I would call in my order for pizza, and meatballs. The meatballs should have it’s own zip code. Not only are they giant, but the taste like bites of Heaven. I’m retired now, but looks like I may have to go to their new location. Fresh, and delicious food, that my have you time travelling to New York!

The food is great and memorable. You’ll be telling everyone you know about it, and any time you’re in the area and want pizza, you’re going to instantly think of Joey’s. Not only is the pizza a good size, but it’s delicious. I recommend the gladiator more than anything else. Occasionally the staff can come off as very rushing, but that’s just part of the New York style. They’re not rude per se, but they just don’t want to waste any time with unnecessary dialog. It still would be nice if they could be a little more friendly, but you’re paying for food, not conversation. Facilities have always seemed clean. I sometimes wish there were more seats and more room, as you may have to wait outside when it’s extremely busy. Overall, this is a must visit for any pizza connoisseur.

Freakin delicious. And I’m a major pizza connoisseur. This place closes early every day around 3:30 pm, so make sure to get there beforehand! Wish I could remember the name of the slice I had. I’d have lunch at Joey’s much more often if I didn’t work so far away, but I was nearby today and dropped in just after the rush at about 1:30. Joey’s is famous for many things but I suspect most requested specialty menu item is the«Gladiator» and it’s been on my list to try for about 9 months. It’s a huge slice of stuffed pizza jammed to the rafters with sausage, pepperoni, cheese and sauce and when it comes out of the oven it looks like a mozzarella volcano. Well now I know where the phrase“OMG!” originated. Get one soon. I know what you will say the first time you see it. And Stephanie! What a pleasure to see her behind the line. She’s the original grace under fire. Those who know her will know exactly what I mean. Go see her soon.

Relocated to Elm Hill Pike! How thankful I am to have found them a few months ago in an area that needed and loves the best pizza in Nashville and the wonderful family that provides the same fantastic service with lots of authentic Italian style! Open until 3, in many visits I’ve found the customers are a mix of the workforce from the area, Nashville’s loyal customers whose cravings for Joey’s must be met, and tourists passing through who’ve been given excellent info! Don’t worry if the line is out the door… it’s always moving quickly and there’s good reason for the popularity! I could’ve just said YUM, but that’s only the beginning!

Best in class New York style pizza. I might as well be in New York with the efficiency and accents behind the counter. On your first visit, I highly recommend you grab the very unique gladiator as a lunch special. It’s basically two thick slices of pizza jammed together and filled with all the good meats. Beyond that, their plain ol’ pepperoni pizza is just the right amount of grease, cheese, thin crust, and sauce to make you feel like you should be walking down a Brooklyn sidewalk dripping grease all over. I’ve also sampled bits off of other people’s plates on the pastas and been happy. To all of you whining about them being too efficient and northern: I’m running you over in line next time because I’m hungry.

How many good things can I say about this place? Let’s start with what to expect if you’ve never been before. This place is VERY New York, which if you’ve been there, you’ll LOVE it. The people are clearly from there, and the food is genuine to the claims. With that said, if you’ve never been North before, the speed and«rushed» feeling is present, especially as a new customer. My wife and I have spent time in NYC, so we felt comfortable in this atmosphere. We told the folks behind the counter this was our first time at Joey’s and they were so kind and welcomed us! Let’s discuss this FOOD shall we?! Isn’t that the point of restaurants after all? The claims of Joey’s being among the best pizza offered in all of Nashville are now substantiated. We all noted during lunch how we haven’t had pizza like this since we were actually INNYC. Their pies are SOGOOD. My wife and I whole-heartedly appreciate good, hot, well-prepared meals. All their food we tried was very well-seasoned and we could taste the extremely FRESH ingredients. We had the $ 10 lunch special which includes 2 slices, a side, and a drink. The slices were so tasty, but we were actually super surprised in the side of spaghetti. The servers aren’t stingy, nor do they go cheap on you. The slice sizes were more than adequate and the spaghetti was a full plate with great flavor to both the fresh pasta AND the sauce. When you walk in, you’re greeted by a long buffet style looking line where you can view all the tasty entrees displayed like a glorious feast before your eyes. Everything looks so good, it’s part of what makes us so excited to return. We thought the lasagna and chicken parm looked EXCELLENT, in addition to their larger slices of double stacked pies. They also have superbly tasty looking cannoli… After our first adventure here, the only thing we left sad about is that they are only open M-F 11 – 3. We’d go ALLTHETIME if they were open more hours! We left talking about how amazing the food and experience was and how we couldn’t WAIT to go back! There are so many things we want to try!

This is the best pizza spot that few people know about. This New York-style pizzeria is a solid choice for a business lunch but you feel like you have to be in the know when you go in there. The two ladies that run everything make an awesome pizza but also make you feel a little intimidated if you’re not sure what you want. It’s so worth it but you must be decisive. I most recently came through and ordered two pizzas for the office. I called in at 11:00AM and was told the wait was already back to 12:30. They’re THAT busy! The pepperoni is one of the best slices I’ve had around town along with Desano and Five Points but they get a little more creative with some of their specialties. The smell is divine and my fiancée says the cannoli is as good as those she had in Italy. The pizza is new york style with a phenomenal crust. To me, that’s the best part of the pizzas from here. You come in, smell the fresh pizza coming from the oven, and get the slice that has their perfect dough, fresh cheese, and classic taste. Pros: The smell, the feel, and the crust! Cons: The wait and semi-intimidating experience in their line. Overall: Be prepared with what you want and know that the Gladiator is enough to fill you up for an entire day. I love their Pepperoni slices and the Brooklyn feel to the place. It’s so good!

After the movie on Feb 2nd, we went to late lunch early dinner to Joey’s House of Pizza. it was the first time we went here and they were getting ready to close. Literally, we walked in about 5 – 8 min before they were locking the doors. If I had checked my Unilocal site I would have known this and chose another place, so I am actually glad I didn’t though… This place was fab… We went in and it is rather small, but very open and inviting. The color scheme is very ITALIAN… black, white and red with large very open style windows making the room look less small and giving you a great view of Nashville. I bet this view is gorgeous at night. but alas, their hours are only 11am to 3pm. The serving counter area was loaded with pizza, pizza rolls, pastas and lasagna,… OMG.to many choices and all the food looked absolutely to die for… We were immediately greeted by this smiling young lady behind the counter. she asked what we would like to order and I told her it was our first time here and she immediately began to make suggestions, told us specials and even asked our likes. Very nice lady and after more conversation we found out that this was her family restaurant, her father was the«JOEY» and her mother was there behind the counter with her. Her father came out and we met him and she said her brother was in the back making dough for tomorrow. amazing!!! Noël opted for the double decker pizza called«the Gladiator» it was a stuffed pizza slice with tons of meat and cheeses with a rootbeer, I opted for a slice with pepperoni, onions and jalapeño peppers and coca cola, and Tony went with a pizza roll with water. We didn’t have to wait long. When I realized that they were closing, I offered to have our food to go, but she said«SITSIT»…please stay and enjoy… that was so nice and inviting. She also brought me a second slice with fresh mozzarella cheese and fresh cut basil for free and then she also brought us additional sauces for the side another great gift from her. .It wasn’t that expensive, it was like $ 24 for everything and she even gave us a sack of three pepperoni rolls to go home with us and wrote a personal note on the bag, Thanking us for coming and enjoying and inviting us back… OMG. those pepperoni rolls were awesome reheated in the oven. I am definitely going back to JOEY’s Pizza and enjoying some more delicious food… especially those pepperoni rolls… Thanks so much !!! I can’t wait to go back again…

Been here several times. I’ve always gotten lasagna and salad. But after all the discussion about the pizza wars in Nashville I thought I would try their NY style pizza. And I am glad I did. I’m glad I don’t come here often because I would be a fat bastard! The friendly lady convinced me to do the two slice plus side. I got spaghetti because their pasta red sauce is incredible. Great taste! The pizza: equal to that of five points: in terms of a NY style pizza. I devoured it. I would venture to say that as far as NY style, they share first place title with Five Points Pizza.
