I took my regulator(octopus) to H2O for service for an upcoming dive trip out of the country. Jim’s estimate was quite high but he assured me that it would be done completely replacing all rings and anything needing replacement. He said it is your life support after all. With that I left it with Jim to service. H2O is a certified service dealer for the equipment I have. When I picked it up two weeks later he had a customer with him so against my better judgement I did not ask him to show me the pressure test readings. When I hooked up my equipment preparing for the first dive on my trip it became instantly clear that my equipment was not pressure tested after service was complete. The SP-5 Sport Piston First Stage leaked air out the top. Luckily it didn’t blow the top out or I may have been without it for the entire trip or someone might have gotten injured. Needless to say I didn’t dive with my equipment for part of the trip but luckily the dive shop brings a spare. When I contacted Jim I was surprised by his response. Instead of being apologetic he said I don’t understand this has never happened before. When I described the point of failure he didn’t seem to know what I was talking about. When I asked him if it had been pressure tested after service was completed he didn’t answer my question. Instead he just said maybe he forgot the O ring. He did offer to fix it but that didn’t help me as I was on a dive trip out of the country. I had it repaired there. I won’t be going back for any service in the future. For the 200.00+ that I paid it should have been tested. Apparently my life support and life was not worth double checking thru a pressure test.
