Working my way North, back home, one bus stop at a time and a man has got to eat, right? A quick Unilocal search and a two minute walk brought me here. Cafeteria style service will score you a filling lunch for a few bucks. It’s clear that the staff love their restaurant and enjoy one another’s company as you’d be hard pressed to walk in and not become immediately engaged in a friendly conversation. The place is simply designed and maintained. The food was good. No where near the best of southern foods or any food. It’ll hit the spot and keep you going on your day. When there’s ribs and Mac n cheese I’ll be devouring both. Here I had exactly that. Simply put, they were good. I’d go back in a pinch.

Southern cooking at its best. Cafeteria style meat and two veg. Each day is a different menu. Tues smothered chicken beef tips over rice. 6 – 8 different veggies to choose from. Squash casserole blkeyed peas corn best Mac and cheese in the world. Spiced apples. Corn muffin w jalapeño and a fried cornbread pancake that I’m sure my mother in law cooked. It was just that good. Off the beaten path not in a tourist area. This is an awesome place for lunch. Definitely worth finding this place!

I came here for upon my arrival in Nashville solely based on its Unilocal reviews. I am going to get some locals mad at me but I disagree with this restaurants current 4.5 star rating. It was on Tuesday and I ordered beef tips on rice with green beans, black eye peas and Mac n cheese with cornbread and pecan pie. Getting my silverware I noticed my knife was dirty. Getting my drink glass I found it was dirty too. Not good! Sitting down to eat I first noticed that some of my rice was hard. I mean very hard almost to the point of being afraid of breaking a tooth! The beef tips were ok but just average. With the hard rice I gave it a 2. The veggies were average with the green beans not being warm enough. I give them barely a 3. The cornbread was barely a 2. The pecan pie was very good at a 4. Maybe I came on a bad day but I wasn’t impressed and considered giving a 1. I am giving a 2 instead but I am not sure that I would return. I have eaten at many meat and two or three’s and this didn’t even come close.

This place is better than Swetts. I had the Mac and cheese, collard greens, cornbread and ribs. Tons of food. Won’t go away hungry and great service. Recommend this place to all.

I’ve been downtown for thirty years and tried just about every restaurant that is over a year old. There is no better than Dan’s, as I call it. Great service, line moves quickly and reasonably priced. One and a half blocks south of the convention center and you’ll see most of the old timers whether with the city or businesses in the area on a regular basis(they know the best spots).

This a good place to eat, once again a cafeteria style serving line, there is more room in this establishment. Clean, friendly and open. I had fried chicken, hind quarter, very good, nice taste. Greens, black eye pies, no dessert… My spouse had smothered chicken, potatoes and mac and cheese. She loved it… we shared some deviled eggs… good. So not a five because of desserts. .no real chioces for us… Still I’d come back, everyday. Good food.

Service is wonderful, typically meat and threes lack in certain areas. This place literally is consistent from the tea to dessert. I must say the chicken and dumplings on Fridays are a must try. I’m getting the feeling it all is. Don’t forget to get the cornbread, it’s perfect.

Great food and incredibly delightful service. First time at a meat + joint and it was great. The ribs were flavorful and fell off the bone. The Mac and cheese was great and my favorite was the green beans. Great lunch spot. The banana pudding was awesome.

The food is really good and affordable. I come 3 times a week for lunch since I work across the street and I’ve never been disappointed! 2 fried pork chops and white beans are on point! «If you go let me know!»

This is one of if not the best meat and three or soul food joint in town! You can have your ‘famous’ joints — they are highly over-rated and typically overpriced and crowded. I’ll take Dandgure’s any day. The people that own it and the ones that work there are friendly. Food is fresh and seasoned perfectly. My favorite is the fried pork chops — you get two and they fry them fresh. A little bit of heaven!

Not sure why there are few reviews but this place is wonderful, great country cooking. Nice variety of food which is served«cafeteria» style and changes throughout the week. Will definitely come back.

BESTKEPTSECRETINNASHVILLE! If you are looking for a great meat and three — then Dandgure’s is the place to go(also known as Dan’s). It is locally owned and the owner is there EVERY day and has been for years. My teenage son begs me to take him for Fried Pork Chops and the BEST mac and cheese in town. I love the collard greens and the Chicken and Dumplings(served on Fridays!). I have never had something that I did not like. The people who work there are wonderful. I am originally from Nashville and have eaten at most of the well known meat and threes in town. I would pick Dandgure’s over any of them any day of the week. Parking is in a small lot behind the restaurant.

I love Dan’s! I usually try to go on Tuesdays which is Beef Tips day. The beef tips are so good. I have also had the meatloaf and the catfish. The catfish is very good and cooked fresh when you order it. Their turnip greens are very good but my favorite is the squash casserole. Everyone who works there is nice and interested in who you are and where you are there from. I love patronizing an establishment that has an owner who is there everyday and CARES.
