Great SURPLUS place not much in the line of new stuff and a little high on the prices

I’ve been to several Army/Navy/Surplus type stores, and although most of them are the sterile modern-style military/police/hunters all-under-one-roof store, Battleground has truly gone the other direction: it looks like an old warehouse, both inside and out. They have truly surplussed material, both new and used. Picture in our mind’s eye a army surplus store. It’s not pretty, there’s no storefront; it’s old school. The guy inside is a loud, skinny, gruff old veteran who really knows his stuff and will talk your ear off, and will get you what you want for the right price. It’s all there. It’s not like the packed the gills, upper-class as possible as Friedman’s on Hillsboro Road; it’s not the know-it-all snootiness, all-things-to-all-people of Greene’s. Battleground knows what it is, and in its own way, does it very very well. The used stuff is clearly used. They make sure the used stuff is in good condition: no bullet holes. I’ve bought used, and it’s in good condition, even if it’s a little dirty, which it is. They’ve got plenty of new stuff, but make sure you know what you’re getting. Used will always but cheaper, but it’s always used. Also, they are willing to bargain in a limited sense. Don’t expect to get away with a huge deal, but at least you can ask for a little bit more than you see. I asked for a bag to go with my product, and they agreed to throw it in, which made me happy. I’ve visited three times, and I like it a lot. It’s my go-to place for my outdoor and military-style needs. A hidden(and slightly dirty) gem!
