I have recently been back. Heard they hired a new chef and revised their menu. I was pleasantly surprised. Had the stuffed quahaugs(no chorizo. yey!) for an appetizer and the fish tacos for lunch. The quahaugs were large and tasty. The fish tacos are adorned with avocado, lettuce, mango bean salsa and a chili aioli sauce. The portions were good, but the chili aioli sauce is lacking in heat and something else is missing. I love fish tacos, but I’m a fish taco snob. Nothing in South County can hold a candle to the fish tacos I’ve had in Austin, TX and Hawaii. Don’t see what the problem is? Just need the right sauce with the right amount of tang and spice.

I love the food here and better yet the service. I have had many great meals here. We always ask for Anthony and have never had nothing but the best in the service area. I have had many of the dishes on the menu since we eat there almost every Saturday. We have always had a great meal and great service. Very generous portions which is always a plus.

Went there last week for the 3rd time. The 1st was ok, 2nd was horrible. Ordered the meatloaf and they brought me what looked like a little meatball that was so overcooked and hard that I could barley cut into it. The only reason I didn’t send it back was I didn’t want to wait while everyone else ate. How could they even serve that IDK? We tried the lounge last week and it was better with good service, great drinks and good appetizer deals. The only complaint was the kitchen again. Ordered a 1⁄3 lb cheeseburger with no lettuce or tomato. They brought me a real thin burger that was undercooked with lettuce and tomato on it, really? Sent it back and they scrapped off the lettuce but left the tomato, lol. How do you screw up a cheeseburger? Overall it’s a nice place, lounge is good, restaurant is way overpriced and they should fire the cook and start over with the menu. Be careful what you order as they will screw it up. We might go back to the lounge but will pass on the food.

Friendly people and great seafood. So glad we stopped here. The fried oysters are amazing and come in a generous portion. We also had some delicious salmon and their house muscles. Those muscles are great.

Family out for a birthday dinner, mid-week just prior to tourist season. We’ve been curious about this local establishment for some time, but always found it too loud(the lounge is upstairs from the restaurant, but the music can sometimes be heard from 100 yards away), so this may not be a family restaurant much of the time. No band last night, though, so we gave it a try. The ambiance was nice, fixtures and décor pleasant, more classy than not with wall pictures that were a little quirky(which I like) but didn’t quite fit. The service was fine but not extraordinary. Friendly and competent, and no problems with waiting times and not rushed either. Might have come around to refill water glasses a second time, and would have been nice to have some bread on the table, but overall the ambiance and service were pretty good. The food was just so-so. The Portuguese Clams with Chorizo appetizer was fair, more of a soup that a stew, unfortunately. Pretty good flavor, a touch too tomato-y and a little oily. Could have used more clams, more«stew,» less broth. My daughter had boiled lobster. She liked it; properly cooked, with tail split and claws separated. The accompanying potatoes and vegetables had poor eye appeal, and she barely touched them. Same for my son, who said he didn’t like the vegetables, but not a lot of 13 year old boys do. He had chicken fried steak, but didn’t really like it– said the gravy tasted funny. My wife liked her house salad, and said the roast beef(I think) au jus was OK. I had the seafood risotto, which wasn’t very good. The risotto was runny and rather bland, and seemed a bit unbalanced. The seafood part was very good, though. I would have preferred the tails taken off the shrimp, but that’s no big deal. The seafood portions were fresh, well cooked, and reasonably plentiful The garnish was pretty(delicate stems with little purple flowers), but kind of got mixed up with the clams et al. and didn’t come off too easily. Finally, the kids both had a waffle churro, which both my wife and I helped eat. This was a touch too sweet and could have used more cinnamon for my tastes, but it was an imaginative and appreciated dessert. The beverages(lemonade, root beer, ice tea, and something like a Spanish coffee were all fine. I’d say the food overall was average, and for $ 130 plus $ 25 tip, I’d expect better.

First time here and I must say I was pleasantly surprised. My Bestie and I did appys for lunch ordering a cheeseboard. stuffed mushrooms… oysters and little necks on the half shell… grilled eggplant pizza and stuffies… Every dish exceeded our expectations… Their warm bread basket is to die for!!! We will definitely be going back for many more visits! The service was excellent. wish I could remember her name… she was the best server I have had in a very long time… spacing out the hot and cold apps… so they wouldn’t all be on the table at once… 5÷17÷152pm…

We’ve been to the mariner grill several times in the past and it was always good except tonight. My wife had the stuffed lobster and I had prime rib. When the meals came I noticed that she kept putting the stuffing aside searching for the good stuff like lobster. A little while later I asked where is the tail and she said that it wasn’t there. Not only that but the claws were inedible white glops gelatinous globs. I told the waiter and I asked him where was the lobster meat, specifically the tail. He said they take the tail meat and mix it with the stuffing. Now, I wasn’t born yesterday and I know they just don’t do that and besides the only meat that was in the stuffing was one shrimp, cut in half. That was it, no lobster or anything else to be found. My wife said the shell smelt like ammonia so she asked to return it and was so put off that she did not reorder a new dish. It was like they found the empty body of an old lobster, stuffed it with bread and butter, took some old lobster claws floating in the tank and cooked it. When I complained that I was not paying full price, the manager did manage to take half off on the lobster, only after accusing us of eating the dinner including the tail. I had to explain to him that there was no tail. No meat, nothing but bread stuffing drenched in butter. Not going back… ever.

Came in as its been awhile since I have been in the area and was very disappointed overall. The staff is still very nice and such but the kitchen. Literally took over an hour to produce two sandwiches. And the place was only ½ filled. I guess its true things are not always as you remember them.

Consistently good food and pleasant staff, lunchtime specials are great and reasonable, we moved here two years ago, probably frequent the Mariner 4 times a month, never been disappointed. Seafood Risotto and garlicky spinach are tops…

I was here the other night with a few friends for some cocktails. The live folk music this night was loud and horrendous. Then again, I wasn’t alive in 1964 and do not want to hear a 10 minute rendition of «American Pie». What is redeeming about this place is that the staff is all pleasant, and the food is okay(split the pizza with pear and goat cheese). All in all, I don’t think I’ll be returning because the music made my ears ring, and witnessing rather inebriated baby boomers just isn’t what I’m looking for.

My husband & I started coming here before we even lived in the area because of a recommendation we were given. Six years later we are STILL coming and this is BYFAR our favorite place. Jeff runs a great business and James is the most superior server we have ever had. We are always very well taken care of, the food is always amazing and the ambiance perfectly welcoming. Whether you are in the mood for delicious seafood or juicy, tender steaks(I don’t eat meat, but my husband says it’s mouth-watering) or you just want to sit in the bar area and listen to live music while enjoying beer and appetizers this is the place to go. Now, as a south county resident, I send my real estate clients there as well because I know they will be taken care of. Even in the off season, you will always find the locals here… and that says quite a bit!

We had big appetites and wanted our seafood and a calm atmosphere. We chose to sit at the bar, Alicia and Zack took care of us. It is a warm atmosphere with a dark wood bar. There was no band there for entertainment on our visit. I started with an old fashioned, the Hubbs a Pumpkin beer with a cinnamon rim. Like having dessert as an appetizer. I had a cup of the lobster bisque, Hubbs had the clam chowder. He is picky and loved it, plenty of clams and just enough cream. The bisque was decadent. We shared the stuffies, which were crunchy on the outside and tender in the inside. For entrees, I had the drunken scallops(I had them years ago when my friends had their rehearsal dinner there and still dream about them) a fantastic portion size, perfectly crisp on top with all the sauce on the bottom, just like I remembered. Hubbs had the Special steak which we both enjoyed very much. Done just right with a side of mash and vegg. We went back to finish up the world series there and will continue to visit.

Unexpectedly fantastic dinners for a restaurant next to Domino’s pizza. If I was just commenting on the meal and kitchen, this would be a 5-star review, however both service and ambiance were not at the 5-start level(maybe between 3 an 4 stars for these.) Now for the meals and drinks, you cannot go wrong with this restaurant if you are looking for good contemporary American cuisine. We had the White Sangria(they are known for this) and the White Pomegranate Mohitos for starters. Most excellent drinks, the fruit was fresh and deeply permeated the flavor of the drink. As an appetizer, we had the balsamic calamari. These had a crunchy coating, with the sweet/sour of reduced balsamic vinegar. We loved it. Along side this, we were served warm bread, with oil and roasted garlic. Our party of four, ate two baskets of bread. For entrees, we had: the Fillet Mignon with Bordelaise sauce — this was prepared to perfection and served with garlic mashed potatoes; the Sesame crusted tuna — this was also grilled to perfection(the medium will leave the very middle un-cooked, perfect!); the Hoisin salmon, flakey, but not dry, the Hoisin sauce added subtlety to this dish: and the local Black back flounder, served over mixed rice — very flavorful. After all of this, we unfortunately had no have room for the dessert menu, maybe next time. The kitchen staff cooked everything as we expected and the flavors were outstanding. The service was timely, just not remarkable. The bar was a bit slow. We will be back for more meals here.

Wow, the Mariner Grill was unexpectedly delicious. See, people had been telling me for a while to come here, but let’s just say that they’re not people I usually trust with my tastebuds. I was wrong, this place is classy and makes great food. The Balsamic Calamari was delicious. Sweet and sticky, and so good that I found myself picking at the crumbs. Their wedge salad was pretty decent. I think their bleu cheese dressing could use some work, but it wasn’t bad, just average. The garlic roasted ribeye was fantastic. Cooked medium, it was super tender and full of flavor. My Chicken Parmesan was very good, but was just too much food for me. Their sauce us pretty yummy and the breaded chicken wasn’t soggy. They also offer three different types of Sangria, which clearly marinates in fruit, which is rare in these parts. The blush sangria was my favorite. I’d definitely come back and I’d definitely get the calamari and steak again.

Meh. 2 ½ stars. And here is why. We ate at the bar, as we often do in many restaurants. Mariner had live entertainment, a guitarist(who was very talented) and he was accompanied by a percussionist(a dude with a snare drum and tambourine — he sing as well but not quite as good). The bar area is fairly large but not huge. The entertainers had two large speakers on poles and they were loud. I mean L-O-U-D. And playing folk genre songs. I mentioned it to Heather(the awesome bartender) and she not only agreed but said that the(the«band») always did that and she had no idea why. They would have been much better at a slighty lower volume level. Loud music at a BAR is one thing. Totally cool. At a bar in a restaurant is another. Next, it took a long time to get service at the bar. It’s not like it was wall to wall or three deep. We walked in, waited about three minutes and two seats opened up. One of the two bartenders saw us but apparently decided we were not in his designated area. Sucks for him because we are VERY good tippers. Actually, it took so long that I was starting to get annoyed. I tended bar for years and understand when they are jammed up, but seriously, tell your new patrons that you will be right with them. Say something, anything. Grrrr. Finally, having decided that we may be in his designated zone of patrons he asked what we wanted. But didn’t ask if we wanted menus. It’s a restaurant for chr*#‘s sake. So I asked for menus. He brought our cocktails. Enter Heather(bursts of sunlight from above, angelic music — you get the picture). She pretty much saved this review. Attentive, cute, nice, efficient. Heather. She took our dinner order. It does not happen often but we ordered identical items. So… two spinach salads with egg, bacon and warm vinaigrette dressing. followed by Sesame encrusted wasabi tuna(rare please) served with steamed vegetables and rice. Salads were decent. Nothing remarkable. Entrees were just, meh, well, okay. Jeesch, good thing I ordered RARE. They were both nearly medium well. And NOT sushi grade by any stretch. Veggies were undercooked — which is preferable to overcooked but still… Rice was boring. I have been here before and the chicken piccata was great. That meal was in my pre-Yelp days. This meal, however, was notsomuch.

This is one excellent resturant and pub! Appetizers are great. I’m a fan of the RI Calamari, simple and delecious. Love pepercini peppers. Ribeye Pizziola is excellent and only about $ 19.00, and for $ 18.00 the Duck Corcoran is outstanding with it’ssemi-boneless roasted Long Island Duckling served with a port reduction with bing cherries… ooooh very nice and flavorfull! I highly recommend this hidden treasure in Narragansett!
