If you come in here expecting a pizza place prepare to be disappointed. Bakery should really be the first descriptor on the sign. I’m not the«reheat me a slice of your…» kind of person so I don’t eat the pizza. I like a fresh pie. And I have my favorite pizza joint to order from. I have ordered a whole pizza from here(to take home,) and it was good but not memorable. That being said, I really enjoy their spinach pies. Not too salty not too plain but usually juicy. You should go early in the day because sometimes they run out of them. Their calzones I recommend too. I haven’t ordered a «loaf»(isn’t that a stromboli?) but if it’s just a large calzone they should be good. Their pastries are usually nice. Sometimes they get creative but you’ll almost always see cannolis, elephant ears and cream horns. I like their eclairs. I’ve never tried their bread though or their rolls. I plan on calling to see if they’ll have zeppolis out now. That is one thing that needs to be addressed: their website is almost only a presence. They need to announce when certain holiday items are being made like hot cross buns, zeppolis, the Italian favorites. I don’t believe that they bake any of the Portuguese specialties like the sweet bread with eggs baked in it. The last I remember their dining room was of the Dunkin’ D’s type, plastic, plastic, plastic. That’s okay though, usually when I eat here it’s only for a fast lunch or whatever. They may have changed that since I think they took over the dry cleaner’s space that used to be on the S&S side of their Bakery. Be prepared also for people hanging up the line by being indecisive and not figuring out what they want first. It can be annoying so I usually peek into their floor to ceiling windows to gauge how busy the line is and avoid it if it’s long. The best time to come(I think,) is on a weekday early afternoon. It’s usually not crowded and you can enjoy your baked good in relative peace.

Was there today for a quick bite since I was running errands all day. I had a slice w/pepperoni. In my opinion it’s basically as good as frozen pizza. Pleasant girl behind the counter but there has to be better pizza close by. Not recommended.

Stopped here for a quick bite while running into town on my little Gansett vaycay. I had 2 of square(grandma?) slices, one tomato one with cheese. It hit the spot. Coming from Philly, Italian is probably the biggest cuisine, so I’ve had a good amount of pies. I loooove pizza — always try it everywhere. Which can be a big mistake. It wasn’t here. The pizza was nothing crazy, but very tasty, authentic, and very cheap. Everything in Gansett costs an arm and a leg, understandably. So, it was nice to spend $ 4 on lunch for once. I’ll be sure to try the desserts next time!

Best local bakery you will find and easy to locate. Bread, pizza, spinach pies, and pastry will fill every occasion. There may be a line but they work quickly and are very courteous. You can call and place an order days before so if you are in a rush or plan j g for the holiday — just give them notice a d they will be ready for you.

The other night I was too tired to cook and hubby was out of town so I decided on spinach pies for my son and I for dinner. I called in the order for pies with cheese and pepperoni, heated. The girl repeated the order, took my full name(first AND last please) and telephone number and told me 15 minutes. I’ll start by saying I was tired when I walked in, and also that I liked the location in South County Commons better. After waiting behind the one customer ahead of me who couldn’t decide what pastries he wanted, and needed a full verbal description of each and every one of his potential choices, I was annoyed AND tired. I tell the young girl my name and order, she tells the backroom, they hand over the pies, she bags them and as she starts to ring me out tells me they are heated but without the pepperoni and cheese as ordered, and would I like to wait while they fix it??? Also, they are small pies, and for whatever reason, at this location, they cut them in half. Ok — No no no. One of my biggest pet peeves… I ordered ahead– you took an annoyingly detailed profile on me… repeated my order, and then screwed up the entire order? Not good. Not going back. The owner was there fluttering around, overheard the conversation, and said nothing, not an apology, not a solution, Nothing. Thanks anyway. There are other places to go. So long for now. I do not recommend.

My son and I stopped here because it was next to the Stop & Shop on our way to the ferry. We’re from Virginia and pretty unfamiliar with this area. But hey… pizza always sounds good so why not? I have to admit, we were really confused when we walked in. The place was empty and it was 6PM on a Saturday night, so that worried me. Plus it looked TOTALLY unlike any pizza joint I had ever been in… nobody tossing dough, no big ovens, no premade pies to buy one slice from. Just display cases with«calzones» and«loaves.» There were two or three pizza-looking things” a shelf, but it wasn’t what I expected… it wasn’t round and looked very thick crusted. It was very sparse behind the counter… no refrigerator or bins of toppings or soda machine. The menu is basically calzones, loaves(which appear to be big, long calzones??), and desserts… No appetizers or salads or anything. No decorations at all, no fancy displays… nothing. When I asked where the restroom was I was told they’re in the middle of an expansion and didn’t currently have one. Ok… so at least that explained the total lack of décor. My son ordered a chicken parm calzone and I got an eggplant parm one. The girl behind the counter asked if we wanted them warmed up. I said«Yeah…do people really eat them cold?» and she said that people often take them home and cook them there. Ahhh… got it! I read some reviews and learned about pizza strips. Ok… so that’s what I saw. Our calzones were good, but again, not at all what we are used to. It wasn’t at all like the cheesy calzones I’ve always gotten. This was more like a very thin dough with a few slices of the filing inside. No additional cheese or tomato sauce or filings. It arrived just a tad on the warm side of room temperature. It was nice that I could eat it immediately… But again totally different than anything I’ve had. In the end, the calzones were a good meal. I’m not giving it three stars because it was bad. It’s mostly because of the basic basic menu and because the whole experience was just so totally not what I expected. I do also realize they’re expanding, so I may have not experienced a typical meal there. I’d recommend this place… Just know what you’re getting into if you’re not a local.

We thoroughly enjoy the pizza and calzone’s, but had a horrible experience on Sunday. I bought a box of strip pizza at the counter — the girl said it would be 5 minutes for the fresh made batch being made. I paid and went to another store for 10 minutes. I sent my daughter in to pick up the pizza. She can out and said it was not ready and would be another 15 minutes. I went in And checked on this — the girl again said another 10 — 15 minutes. After 15 minutes it was now going to be another 10 minutes. After all this waiting she offers the 10 slices she has along with the cooked pizza, but he had to charge me extra for the other type. She never checked with a manger on the additional wait times, she charged me another 8 dollars after making me wait 20 minutes. Just don’t get the lack of customer service any more.

The last of the South County Italian bakeries with a name no one seems to know. I always called this place Calvito’s, but upon my return east from CA I noticed the font on the outside sign actually read Colvito’s. The last menu I have actually calls out both names, probably because no one I know from town seems to know what I’m talking about when I ask what the name actually is. That’s all really just pointless banter… this is an excellent Italian bakery and I’ve never been disappointed with anything they’ve served me. Pepper & Wine biscuits, pizza strips, spinach pie, pizza slices, they’re all fantastic. It’s also a great option if you’re looking for somewhere to order a pizza for dinner. Don’t hesitate, you won’t find a better Italian bakery in Narragansett or South Kingstown.

Authentic Rhode Island style Italian food. If you grew up in RI you know what I mean, if you don’t know, then you need to go. The pizza and calzones are especially good, with many varieties of each. I had a cold slice of party pizza and an eggplant parm mini calzone. My wife had a slice of olive and cheese pizza. They also offer other dishes such as salads and pasta which we haven’t had the opportunity to sample yet. In addition to the hot and cold dishes they are a full service bakery. For dessert we shared a peanut butter and fudge cupcake which was out of this world. I can’t wait to go again. They are located in the shopping plaza adjacent to the Stop and Shop. The Commons location is closed, but they are expanding this location.

One of my favorite pizza places in RI! If you haven’t tried Calvitto’s calzones then you have yet to live :] Delicious, fairly priced, speedy service and great for the kids. They have so many choices and don’t forget the yummy baked goods. I always end my meal with a chocolate chunk cookie. Happy eating!

I’ve always been a fan but recently had a bad experience a couple of weeks ago. I had called in an order for a party pizza on Saturday to pick up Sunday morning. I arrived a couple of minutes early to pick up and was told that it was still cooling. I waited about 10 minutes and asked about my order again. One of the girls went to check on it. Meanwhile, numerous customers had come and gone, picking up their orders. 25 minutes later, my pizza finally«cooled». It was obvious to me that they had forgotten about my order, I asked the person waiting on me and she just shrugged her shoulders. I understand that mistakes are made but it would have been nice for someone to actually acknowledge it or simply apologize. This business really needs to step up their customer service. Good food will only get you so far if your customer service is terrible.

Great food! Great price! Bakers are amazing there. Sometimes I go in to sit down after shopping all day to rest my weary feet and enjoy a pizza strip and everything is perfect from the sauce to the dough. A nectar of the gods.

I love this place and whenever I find myself in Narragansett I stop in for two strips of pizza(they are pretty large, more like big squares or rectangles than strips). They offer several types — some with olives, some with pepperoni, some other types — it’s ALL good. If it hasn’t just come out of the oven, they will offer to stick it in the oven and reheat it for you — crisping up the already fabulous crust. I also like Calvitto’s calzones, and their ready to eat take-out dinners — I’ve only had the canneloni –mmmm to die for — are really excellent — made more so by the delicious red sauce that Calvitto’s makes. This is a longtime family owned business with an amazing array of pastries as well — I believe they also make breads, but can’t swear to it. I love their pizza and their pastries. This place is REALLY good and high quality. They sell out fast so you really need to get there before noon if you want to be sure you get what you want. BTW you can eat in or take out at the Narragansett location. They also have satellite location on Route 1 in a shopping center(South County Commons) which is equally good.

THIS is what Fast Food really is… Family owned, quality ingredients, and take out food is ready in minutes. The daily pizza and calzones are fantastic! I really wish they would jar their marinara. it’s A-1!

Love that their party pizza slices are saucy, just like me. You can’t go wrong with any of the slice selections on the back counter. The calzones, or «pies», are also a treat. The spinach, ‘roni and cheese pies are my favorite, but they go fast. The calzones have a nice crisp bottom but a soft bite-able top side. I hate it when you bite into a calzone and feel like a T-rex tearing at its next meal to get a mouthful. Nope, the crust is tender and tasty here at Calvitto’s. The customer service is ok here. I really like good service and that is the one area that is consistently inconsistent here. Sometimes, the staff is greeting me as I come in the door… other times the staff is more concerned about finishing up the latest gossip rather than taking my order. The pastry here is also average, at best. I do think they pull their weight with the pizza. I would be hard-pressed to put together a box of pastry to bring to a dinner party. The few times that we have purchased pastry it definitely has not tasted freshly baked. It’s a good little spot to stock up for the beach… or give yourself a break from cooking. There are a few tables inside for you to grab a seat. Stick to the pizza and calzones and be patient with the service and you’ve got a winner. Parking is in the lot shared by Stop and Shop in the Salt Pond Plaza… open every day.

This little pizza shop reminds me of my high school years! Growing up in the area, I would always stop with friends for a slice and a soda. The slices are ridiculously inexpensive, and also very filling. They always have mushroom, pepperoni, cheese, and a couple of other veggie ones for purchase by the slice. I haven’t had much else there, I like to stick with what I know! All in all a great spot; I would go back again and again!(and I have)

I’m editing this review because I’ve noticed a decline in quality of product here. Disappointed. Come to find out, the establishment that once was Calvitto’s changed ownership some time in the early 2000’s. Hence the name was changed to «Colvitto’s» to delineate the difference. The real Calvitto’s can still be found in Cranston. I’m leaving my review for reference to show what this place can be: Calvitto’s is a great place for pizza and spinach pies. Barebones, no frills kind of place but don’t let the looks deceive you. Their pizza sauce is unique. You know that you having a Calvitto’s pizza by how the sauce tastes. When I was a University of Rhode Island undergrad, I used to frequent Calvitto’s weekly. Now 11 years later, after my service in the US Army, I have come back to RI and was pleasantly surprised that they haven’t changed a thing. Overall, if you are looking for authentic Italian-American fare with a touch of RI flare, Calvitto’s is the place to be. I recommend the spinach pie and RI style pizza strips(Mondays are 2 for 1 on the strips).
