Never disappointed. Always good food, plenty of it and friendly service. All the times I’ve been there, I’ve never noticed any smoke/smell and I’m a non-smoker but we usually eat in the dining room so maybe that’s why.

As always, my wife writes the reviews for her Facebook friends. Burger Quest II — Week 5: A month or so ago we were in Nappanee for the town’s Apple Festive and we lunched in a cozy place on S. Main Street called Hunters Hideaway. On that visit Scott had a Buffalo Burger and I had the Fiesta Chicken Sandwich. Since we liked the atmosphere and food so much we decided to pay homage to Hunters Hideaway with a burger review. The interior is a mishmash of modern hunting lodge and comfortable pub with its knotty pine walls, tastefully arranged beer and spirits signs(with just the right amount of neon thrown in the mix), and plenty of high tables with barstools for seating. There is a second floor seating area accessible by way of a rustic staircase and a family room with low-top tables and straight-back chairs. Hunters Hideaway offers eleven different versions of 1/3-lb. beef burgers ranging in price from $ 8.95 to $ 9.49 plus the Buffalo Burger for $ 10.49. Each is served with a side of the patron’s choosing. We have never ordered the same burger before, but in this instance, we both went for the Buffalo Burger. This sandwich is 1⁄3 pound of ground bison topped with Swiss cheese and anything else one’s heart desires served on a cornmeal dusted split-top bun. The patty is charbroiled to tasty perfection and I guarantee that it is love at first bite. Scott’s bison was accompanied by house made chips while I had a tossed salad with house dressing. Both proved to be excellent choices. Besides the unique appetizers, various sandwiches & wraps, salads, and deli favorites, the menu also offers mouthwatering knife ‘n fork dining options and daily specials. If you should happen to find yourself in the vicinity of Nappanee and feeling hungry, we urge you to give Hunters Hideaway a try. And once you do, you’ll most likely be planning your next trip. FYI: Full bar service is available and daily cocktail or beer specials are offered. Smoking is permitted but the building evidently has a great ventilation system because we barely noticed the scent of burning tobacco and we didn’t carry the odor of smoke on our clothing after leaving. Children are allowed in the family room which is closed off from the barroom and no smoking is permitted inside its perimeter. Service is spot on and the servers couldn’t be nicer. In the event that on-street parking is not available, a public parking lot is located directly behind the restaurant

Great service. Great food. Very reasonable prices. What else do you want? Really enjoyed the burrito and the friendly service. Oh, and the key lime pie.

The name describes this place so well. It really is a hideaway in every sense. From the outside you barely notice the place but once you walk in, you see that it’s in fact a great bar! Hunters has two floors and great beer prices. The bartender was friendly and the atmosphere makes it the perfect local place for watching the game or just hanging out with friends.

This seems to be the happening spot in town(Nappannee). We visited for dinner on a Wednesday evening. It was busy in the smoking area(and foggy!) but less busy in the non smoking room. $ 3 margs were very good and come in many flavors. We had the ribeye and the pulled pork sandwich, both were good, not great but not bad either. Won’t go out of our way to return but would definitely go there a lot if we lived in the little town.

Food is outstanding and the price is very fair. The only downfall is all of the smoke. People are allowed to smoke, and it does get pretty smoky in there. If you haven’t had the Mexican Shoe, give it a shot. Portions are amazing, they don’t want you going home hungry. Drink prices are very reasonable. All in all, a nice little place to grab a drink and a bite.

When Indiana’s new smoking ban went into effect July 1st, Hunter’s decided to change their policy to no one under 21 allowed and the entire place allows smoking now. What a shame, because the food has been pretty good in the past and the portion sizes have been a good value. Unfortunately, the clientele has become seriously low-brow and there is a constant cloud of smoke throughout. The air conditioning can’t even keep up with the demand anymore because the the air is so thick. I occasionally smoke a cigar, and I went to dinner with friends that a light smoker’s, but none of us could stand the thick smoke that hangs in the place. It’s becoming a dive for chain smokers. If you smoke like a chimney, the environment probably won’t bother you. But if you smoke that much, you probably can’t even taste your food anymore to appreciate it. I won’t be visiting them again.

Small town bar with super friendly staff and decent bar food(I’m a big fan of the nachos!). Down side-they still allow smoking indoors here. Big, big negative.
