Born and raised on the north shore of Chicago and lived in the city for 10 years after college. I have eaten more than my fair share of Italian Beef sammiches in my day(Portillo’s, Al’s, Johnnie’s in Elmwood Park and all the other small grease pits throughout the city) and am practically an aficionado. That being said, Beefstro’s is hands down the best Italian Beef sammich I’ve had outside of northern Illinois. Beefstro’s would stand up well against any in the city. Lots of places outside of Chicago mess up a few things; namely the bread is not quite right and the beef is sliced too thick. Not Beefstro’s. They knocked it out of the park. It is a bit pricey($ 9 for a beef rather than the standard $ 5 or so in Chicago) but it’s worth it. So glad my dad suggested it while I visit. I’ll definitely be back before I leave town.

I read the reviews, and was almost scared off. I had an Italian beef with both sweet and hot peppers. The flavor was awesome, and the bread great. My kids had hot dogs, and they are the same Vienna Beef dogs you get in Chicago on poppy seed buns of course. It was a little expensive, but worth it IMO.
