We absolutely loved it here! Our chef was great & really entertaining. He was very talkative which we all liked. The food was great I tried some of the sushi & loved it. My dinner was the chicken teriyaki & it was delicious my 3 year old even loved the food & the experience. Whenever my son asked the man for more fire he obliged right away. I had a strawberry daiquiri and although it was delicious I would say it was a little strong but it was still amazing. It was very clean & the staff for the most part was very accommodating. The reason I am not giving them 5 stars is because like myself a lot of people brought their babies with them & when my 3 month old son needed a diaper change there was no where to change him. I had to drag his car seat into a very cramped bathroom & change him on there. But other then that it was a very good experience. I will be going back again.

THE Best Japanese Steakhouse in Naperville. Dined several times, the soup could use a little more substance. However the salad, noodles, steak, chicken and egg yolk shrimp are all top notch. For a small cozy place you will be very surprised Awesome place, great food and excellent service.

If I could give this place 2.5 stars I would. Good place for hibachi. Not a great place for sushi. Someone in our hibachi grill group spit up their sushi because of how bad the piece was. I don’t know if they have their sushi pre-made but it didn’t look like the fish was fresh. I don’t know what the reason was for them covering up their sushi bar but I’ve never seen a sushi bar keep their customers from see’ing what goes on during the prep.

Was in town visiting my son who goes to North Central college decided to try this place with a total of seven people. Got in before the crowd, maybe two five people in the restaurant. Service was good very friendly staff and the food for the most part that was part of the hibachi meals was good. Sushi on the other hand was poor to borderline send back(my 16 year old daughters meal of choice for the evening) one piece was so bad she spat it up in her napkin and she loves sushi places. Finally I would go there if you are looking for the whole Hibachi hot plate experience, but if you want sushi not the place to go.

I have been going to Shogun for over 10 years so I don’t really know where to begin. I almost always get the salmon teriyaki dinner($ 16). The dinner includes a shrimp appetizer, soup, salad, vegetables, steamed rice and noodles. I like the fried rice(extra $ 1.50) and extra noodles($ 3) — - so it can get pricey. The soup is just okay— but the salad is amazing. I believe the ginger based salad dressing is made in house and the best I’ve ever had. My other favorite thing here is their egg yolk sauce– smooth, like butter except better. Don’t be shy about asking for extra egg yolk sauce! It’s supposedly goes over the shrimp appetizer but I ask them to smother my salmon as well(see pics under Cristina. F). Service is polite and efficient. The chefs are friendly/enthusiastic and are always a hit with my family/friends. This is our restaurant of choice for birthdays, graduations etc and the atmosphere is kid friendly. My little sister ordered her first Shirley Temple here, haha. They also have sushi on the menu– which is okay– I wouldn’t go here for sushi. I guess we always order it in addition to our teriyaki entrees and it usually ends up being a mistake(read: too much food). I also recommend going during lunch for the great deals. Although, my only bad experience at Shogun was at lunch when they appeared understaffed so I guess ~you get what you pay for.

Shogun is our«go to» restaurant for family birthdays, gd report cards, anniversary, etc. Been a customer for over 15 years. Never disappointed. Food quality and taste excellent. Wait service and chef show outstanding. Not as glitzy Benihana but their prices are reasonable.

We loved this place when we lived in the area. We’ve moved out of state, but ALWAYS come back. It’s still as great as we remember. The owners Lisa and Peter still take good care of us and the portions are hugh. Stop by and try this place, you won’t be disappointed.

Great Japanese steak house! Love their food I’ve been here over a dozen times Never been disappointed by their food or service. The prices are good for a hibachi restaurant. Shogun has been at this location for years and owners are always there. Owners are very friendly and make sure everything is right. The inside has looked the same for years it’s not updated or fancy like most hibachi restaurants. If your looking to impress a date or anyone else this isn’t the place. If your looking for great food at a reasonable price then this is your place!!!

Best Japanese food & Sushi around!!! Home made sauces, dressings, great portions, birthday celebration special, noodles are the best ever! Family owned and operated. I travel a lot and compare places, no one comes close to this place without you paying an arm and a leg for it! Mmmm.

My friends and I had an awesome time here the other night. Everything was the tops — food, service, you name it. Our chef(Joe, I believe?) was funny and sociable, he added some great pizzazz to our evening. Will definitely come back!

Long time customer(20 years+), felt it was time to write a review. Others come and go, but Shogun is here to stay and there is a reason why — the food is consistently good.

My favorite thing is the ginger dressing. I became obsessed with it when I came here as a little kid with my dad and I was not into sushi. The waiters, chiefs, sushi makers, and hostesses are always friendly and welcome you with smiles. My little brother who is not a sushi fan, comes here and gets the hibachi while myself and boyfriend eat sushi. We’ve tried every roll, as we’ve been coming for years, and have yet to have a bad roll, or experience here. I love the pictures on the wall and enjoy trying to remember where I out mine when I celebrated my birthday here, and seeing the new ones. This place has been around for years and it’z not surprise why, the staff is amazing and the food is just as great and you leave thinking you can’t wait to come back.

I have been visiting this establishment for 20+ years. A very nice family run restaurant. The noodles and the egg yolk sauce for the shrimp are a must. Highly recommend!

I am torn between giving Shogun 3 or 4 stars. First off their voicemail says they are open at 12:30 on Saturday but when we got there they do not open until 1pm. No biggie, we went to a few stores and came by at 1. When we walked in I was underwhelmed by the décor and everything just looked like it needed to be spruced up. The place is small but luckily they were not crowded so we got seated right away and were not rushed by people waiting. The beginning of the meal was also underwhelming. The salad was so so, the soup was like clear broth with nothing really in it except a few thin noodles. It was just blah. The dinner though I would kick up a notch to 4 stars. I ordered the shrimp which was delicious. All their sauces are homemade and unique. Our cook was excellent. He gave suggestions for sauces to add to the meals and offered us extra on the side. The egg sauce was very yummy. I think I would go again but it’s not the nicest aesthetically speaking. Just keep that in mind. Like it might not be a place you would want to go on a first date or with someone you are trying to impress by taking them to a nice place. While the food is good, the experience is just not quite up to what I was expecting for a Japanese steak house.

Best Japanese Steak House around! Food has so much more flavor then you will find at Domo & Shinto! I have been going here for over 20 years and my family still goes to this day. This is a must try and definitely try the egg yolk batter on your shrimp… to die for!

I have been going here for over 10 years and no other Japanese style steak house can compete with this place. They seem to be a smaller business than the bigger chains out there, but they are 10 times more amazing when it comes to quality and taste of their food. They have the best egg yolk sauce and the very best teriyaki. The sushi here is also very well made. All of the chefs here are wonderful and very skilled however, my very favorite is Andy. Andy drives all the way to work here from Rockford and I am so thankful. He makes the best Japanese hibachi I have ever tasted. He is also entertaining and a great conversationist.
