My husband and I came here as we were exploring the small wineries in Mt. Veeder, and keep coming back for the excellent wines, the beautiful setting, and wonderful people. We actually joined their wine club we loved the wine so much. All of their wines are excellent, but we especially like their Merlot. Just marvelous flavors — like biting into a succulent piece if fruit! You need to make reservations, but it his worth the extra effort to make it up to this fabulous, one-of-a-kind experience in Napa!

I have been a wine club member of Yates Family Vineyard the past two years and they produce excellent and elegant wines. They live up to their name as this is truly a family run business and it is on Mount Veeder which is both beautiful and the environment produces amazing red wines.

Wow! Delicious wine, wonderful family, and breath taking view. The love and devotion from this family is outstanding and it shows in their work and their wine. I was very thankful to spend time wine tasting around the area. I have not found a single red wine I like more than the Yates red wine selection. The smell is something that only Mt. Veeder grapes have, it is a very luscious scent. Their Cab Franc is delicious, and I would highly suggest it if you like red wine. Deep, dark red with a smooth texture. It opened up in my mouth like a flower bloom. The wine pairs really well with grilled food, fresh oven pizza, cheese and crackers, chicken fajitas, and almost any other tasty morsel. It would make for a magical evening alone with that lucky someone sharing a glass(or two). If you like white wine the Yates carry one white, and it does not disappoint. Fresh and silky. To me it had warm floral notes, like honeysuckle and tropical notes, like pineapple. This white wine is great for girls day. I would pair it with a lighter creamy cheese like chervie and fruit like: peaches, pears strawberries. My favorite winery by far. They have the whole package! Hardworking individuals who have a respect and love for what they do. Making the trip to their vineyard is well worth it. You will leave with new friends and great wine. What more could you ask for?

I had the good fortune of going to Yates Family Vineyard recently and it doesn’t get better than this. I love red wines and Yates Vineyard did not disappoint. This is not a stuffy, pretentious, generic winery in Napa. This is a friendly, local, family run legacy with divine red wine. I adore the Merlot and the Cabernet. We got to tour the place and saw the old wine cave, the classic equipment, and met the family. This place has a personal touch that you don’t hardly get anymore. You will not regret coming here. And you’ll thank yourself for buying their wines to enjoy.

I have to agree with others here on Unilocal.yates was an excellent experience with outstanding wines. While at Fontanella Vineyards prior to our visit to Yates, a woman there said that Yates’s Cab Franc was one of the top 5 wines she has ever tried. Hmmm, really? Cab Franc? Seems to be used more as a blending grape here in the U.S. vs full-on 100% cab franc. Unfortunately at our tasting we didn’t get to try it. However, given they hype around it from the woman at Fontanella and from Whitney at Yates, I had to buy a bottle nonetheless. That 2008 Cheval was about $ 45. Cracked it open several weeks later at home and it was stunning. So smooth, soft tannins, big flavor… certainly one of the better wines I had. If you have the chance try to go visit. Just know that it is way, way, way off the beaten path up in Mount Veeder. For me, that just adds to the appeal of this place. When visiting, my wife and I were the only ones there and we were tasting wines in Grandma’s kitchen. No, seriously, we were in her grandmother’s kitchen drinking wine. What an awesome experience.

What wonderful winery! It is a little off the beaten path, but is WELL worth the drive! We heard about Yates from our driver, who highly recommended them. We were graciously greeted by Mary Yates and 2 of 4 of their family dogs. The dogs were super friendly and followed us around the tour, which was cute. Mary showed us some of the older wine equipment that was used when the winery first was established. She then led us up to part of their house to have our tasting. We were sat at the dinner table, which made us feel like part of the family. She opened all of the bottles for us(which may have been since we had a 10:30 appt, but was still a nice touch). They have majority red wines, but 1 white. They were all very good. My husband and I especially enjoyed the Red Blend. After our tasting we were allowed to walk up the spiral stairs to the roof where the view is just fantastic. The view overlooks all of Napa. I just wish we didn’t live on the East Coast so we could enjoy their wine and company more often!

As a Sommelier I get to try the best wines in the world on a regular basis and sometimes I get a little jaded. Yates kicked me in the teeth and reminded my why I fell in love with the wine industry in the first place. Yates is a true family affair with everyone pitching in to lend a hand. They grow their grapes on Mt Veeder(one of my fav Napa regions) at their old family estate that is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been. The wines are FANTASTIC at any price but I really believe that they represent one of the best values in all of Napa. I have put these wines in blind tastings of much more expensive wines and they always stand up to, and often beat the big boys. A+

On the recommendation of another well reviewed winery in Napa, we decided to give Yates a try. We were glad we did. This small family owned winery is defiantly off the beaten path, literally on a dirt road in the heart of Napa’s farmland. We were met for our tour by Todd, a member of the Yates family. We are not big wine connoissures, but we drink a lot of wine and we know what we like. We found the range of wines from this winery quite enjoyable. We tried several of their reserve wines. Our favorites were the Alden Perry Reserve($ 42 a bottle) and the White Horse Cabernet Franc,($ 78 a bottle and the most expensive of their offerings). There were more affordable offerings in their range as well — the wines started at about $ 18 a bottle and went up from there. If you like the idea of supporting family owned businesses and the art of wine making, this would be a great stop on your tour through the wine country. It was a personal experience — Todd was very informative and knowledgeable. We very much enjoyed our visit with him. We also had the opportunity to meet Mr. Yates and his daughter. The facility itself was a little hard to find and there isn’t a sign… if you decide to go, it’s actually in the back(upstairs rear) of the Hendry Winery building. The fact that almost everything on Unilocal gets a 4 or 5 star rating is personally frustrating for me because it dillutes a real 4 or 5 star rating. For the sake of clarity, I want to stress that we consider a 4 star rating a very positive review. We gave this one 4 stars instead of 5 because the facility was a little hard to find and a tour of the vinyards was not part of the experience. Weighing heavily in our rating were the positives which included extended personalized attention, the unpretentiousness and authenticity of the experience, and the wine itself. This stop was more like a visit with a nice family in the country than a formal tour, a refreshing change in a country that is so focused on big business.

Rarely do you get to meet the head winemaker and the whole family of an estate but I got to! Not only were the wines phenomenal(my favorite was Flower) but the staff is great. It’s only a few minutes off Redwood Rd. and you will want to stay to hang with the puppies.
