Avanti’s Pizza Restaurant

We always enjoy dining at Avanti’s. Nice menu, good service, every time.

Great traditional Italian food. Not t tourist trap as some other Mystic Pizza places appear to be.
Eggplant parm is to die for.

Came in around 5:30 for a beer and a bite to eat. Sat down at the bar and ordered a beer and a small sausage grinder. The beer was there in 1 minute. 40 min later I asked after the sandwich and was told it would be out in just a few minutes. 3 minutes later a pizza appears.
To her credit the sympathetic waitress comped me the unfinished beer.
Will never return.

It’s been months since we were in Mystic, but I wanted to update my earlier rating. The night we ate at Avanti’s, it was very late, I had been traveling for 7 hours or so, and was looking forward to a nice meal. I was very disappointed. I won’t change the 2-​star rating for that meal, but I will say that we ordered pizza from them for the kids another night of our stay, since we were practically across the street. My daugther LOVED the pizza and scarfed it down. Personally, for the 3 days that we were in Mystic, I think the best meal I had was at the seaport museum cafeteria, and that was a sandwich with a very bitter piece of burned chicken. So, in retrospect, as far as Mystic cuisine goes, maybe Avanti isn’t so bad after all.

We love to escape the city with weekend trips to Mystic. Avanti’s Restaurant was recommeded by a friend as a great place for a nice dinner and a glass of wine. They were right. My children ate well (pasta w/​meatballs and a side dish of vegetables) and my husband and I were very pleased as well (awesome fried scallops and a great Avanti’s burger!)
The staff is very pleasant!

Good portions but if your in Mystic for a visit keep going. You have already been here because your town has one. If you have a car full of hungry kids its a safe bet.

Not the place to go if you want your food on time or want to be treated well. We made a to-​go order by phone and went to pick up our dinner about 30 minutes later and the brand-​new girl who had taken our order never even put it in the computer! She told us we would have to wait 15 more minutes for them to make it. It wouldn’t have been so bad if they had offered anything complimentary or given us a discount, but they did not and the three waitresses working on shift were very rude. This is the second time a phone order we have given them hasn’t been put in, but it will be the last. So we left Avanti’s and went to Stonington Pizza down the street and had the same dinner in 10 minutes for $ 5 less.

Avanit’s is aiight. I wish I could be more enthusiastic… but I really can’t. Service is fine — the food is a basic selection of pizza, sandwiches, seafood, a salad with your entrée… Nothing that exciting, but to be fair everything I’ve ordered has been decent, just not entirely memorable.
It’s a family joint, so take your grandparents and watch your mouth around the kids.
