What a awful excuse for a mexican restaurant. Stopped at their NEW place. I was never impressed with the old one. What a joke…$ 4.95 for a draft. $ 8.99 for a dry tasteless combo. I ordered it to go or would have refused to pay for if when I tasted this poor excuse of a supposed Mexican meal… This place will be closed in a month or two. Get a real cook !!!

We ran across this gem of a restaurant by accident. If we lived in the Muskegon area this would be our go to Mexican Restaurante. Great prices, great food, very clean. They now have a liquor license & our server gave wonderful service!

This was honestly the worst Mexican restaurant experience I have ever had. Our meal started with slow service, though I assumed that was due to them working through kinks as they had just opened the new location. I ordered a strawberry daiquiri and it clearly had no alcohol in it. I thought that it may have been a virgin and I just didn’t know, but I was asked to show my id. I’m not sure if they forgot to put it in, or if they were being intentionally dishonest about it. I ordered chips and cheese for an appetizer. It came out at the same time as my food and was literally just chips on a plate, sprinkled with Kraft Mexican style shredded cheese and melted. Every other Mexican restaurant I have ever been to the chips and cheese is a bowl of queso. They really should warn people of what that is before they pay $ 3.99 for it. My neice and nephew got quesadillas from the kids menu and they must have grilled it cheese side down because the cheese was unrecognizable. I wish that any of this was exaggerated. I complained a bit about the chips and cheese(which took a lot because I have never complained at a restaurant before in my life) and nothing was done about it. This terrible meal ended with us waiting(as we had for everything so far) for at least 10 minutes for our bills to get picked up and brought back for us to sign. Seriously don’t waste your time or money at this awful place.

I went there for the 99¢ Taco Tuesday, and discovered they aren’t doing that anymore. BUT, the Beef Chimichanga was homemade and incredible! The margaritas were pretty good too! Can’t wait to go back!

Excellent home made fried corn shell tacos! The best we’ve ever had. Their salsa is also incredible. Not much more expensive than fast food places & so much better! Definitely try this place!

Great authentic Mexican. You cannot go wrong with anything on the menu here.

This place is great and is shockingly affordable!(99 cent tacos on Tuesday!). They also have a lot more to offer outside of that. One of the few Mexican restaurants I’ve visited around here that serve meatless enchilada options. If you’re a vegetarian and looking for some Mexican options this will do the trick!

Great hole-in-the-wall Mexican joint. Stopped in here one day for lunch. There’s nothing spectacular about the location or ambience. However the tacos are great! My only beef was that there were no free refills on pop. When in the area we will eat here again.

Good authentic Mexican food. I got the house wet burrito and though it was not anything special it was still really good. My friend got the Rosanna Tacos and they were impressed.

I was in need of a restaurant that would deliver a gift card to my VA team at . I called El Tapatio and they took care of this for me and did as they said they would. Cant personally comment about the food, but I am told this is THE place to go by my VA. Thank you for going the extra mile in helping me do something nice for me VA in Muskegon

Very good tacos and different than those you find in most Mexican restaurants(thick corn shells freshly fried, thicker than a tortilla). Cost was reasonable, but dining area was very small. The entire building was about the size of a 2 – 3 car garage. The chips & salsa were average.

This is the place that finally made me sign up for Unilocal to do a review. I believe that everyone deserves to know how amazing this place is. The prices are great, you can go in with $ 50 and eat like you’re royalty. The staff has been very accommodating on every visit that I have had, allowing me to order food as I desired. Most restaurants that I have tried to freely order from, want to remain stuck to a strict structure of you get the menu, you make the choices, they take the menu and you have you you ordered, and that is all with deserts being an exception. That isn’t an issue at El Tapatio, they have no problem letting me keep the menu and make my choices about what more I would like to order if I’m still hungry after the first thing that I ordered. If you have never tried tacos de lengua, I would definitely recommend getting them here first. It is a difficult dish to prepare properly, and they manage to consistently pull it off. It was something that I had once before visiting here, and did not enjoy. If you haven’t already been here, and are in the area, make sure to give this place a chance.

Good food, had appetizer, two tacos and desert for $ 11.00. Great prices, neighborhood a bit scary.

Tried this place during my honeymoon… Looked like a hole in the wall place, but the food was excellent. We ate there for lunch and had the combo fajitas. One was enough for two of us. I usually do not eat all of the leftover veggies, but this place was so good we ate them all. I docked a point as we were considering dessert, but they did not even ask and just brought us the bill.

The best, if not only, AUTHENTIC, Mexican restaurant in Muskegon(probably within 30+ miles). Almost everything is freshly made, in house, and they will alter items to match your preferences(if necessary). The place is small but very quaint and clean. The service, for us, has always been friendly and efficient. The portions are just right and the prices are extremely reasonable. Do yourself a favor and give them a try!

The tacos were ok. I’ve had better at several places in Grand Rapids. The service was slow but that is not always apparent as to why. Slow in the back? One waitress? Who knows. The tacos were also barely warm and tortillas were stiff.

Service situation is a little odd. I ordered carry out and sitting there, I watched the servers and cashier disappear leaving the few customers alone. The guac was very good. Trying to make dinner plans for a couple days from now and wondering if this would be a good choice. Anybody else got a review on the Chile rellenos?

I love the Mexican style tacos with cilantro and lime. Everything I have eaten there has been great. So glad they are right around the corner from me.

My wife bit into my taco. Her eyes slipped closed with pleasure. «What do they put in there,» she moaned, «crack?» I tried to take it back and she snapped at my fingers. So I reached for her tamale. Grudgingly she released the home-made tortilla filled with perfectly seasoned pork. Yeah. It’s like that. I have lived most of my life in Arizona and California, places known for their Mexican food, and this little place can hang with the best.

Had dinner here a few nights ago. Place has about 12 tables and was seat yourself when we arrived. I had the Tinga dinner(~$ 8) which was two flour tortillas stuffed with shredded chicken in a sauce with melted cheese. A little spicy(in a good way). Came with a side of shredded lettuce topped with guacamole– the guac was very good. Also came with a side of rice which you would think had a lot of flavor by looking at it, but was dry and bland. One companion had two seasoned beef tacos and was happy although thought they were too mild in the spice arena. Another companion had the chicken quesadilla(~$ 4.25) — which had sizable chunks of chicken that appeared to be heavily seasoned with black pepper. A little greasy but she liked it. Very authentic — I peered into the kitchen and saw all the notes everywhere written in Spanish. I would say 4 stars on the food(except the rice) and 3 stars on the service. There were two waitresses yet only ~ 4 – 5 tables had guests. Despite this, the waitresses disappeared at times for quite a while… not sure why. We weren’t greeted for a while after we sat down(i.e. brought menus or said hello to). Once we ordered, food came out fairly fast, but when we were ready to pay, they were once again nowhere to be found. We ended up waiting up at the register for our bill. So if you’ve got nowhere to be and want a relaxed meal, recommend. 3 ½ stars.
