Really pleasantly surprised. We didn’t read any reviews just sort of drove up and checking it out. Love love the food!!! Very impressive! We ordered the bruschetta for appetizer, absolutely blew our taste buds, they serve Indian rock wines here — yay!!! I had the Tuna Melt, absolutely delicious with red onions, pickle and lettuce accompaniments. I ordered mine with Belgian fries and my husband had the turkey sandwich and the salad side was enormous and it’s designer salad not just your regular garden salad. We’re definitely coming back like all the time every time we visit Murphys. Wow!!! Thank you!!! PS: kids eat $ 5. Now why wouldn’t you come here? #nobrainer

Wonderful fresh, flavorful food, enchanting setting, pleasant(not too loud) jazz band, delicious local wine, tempura avocados, a big well seasoned/perfectly cooked steak, and a crème brûlée cheesecake! What more could you want?

Very enjoyable meal for our first night in town. We were the only ones in the place on a Monday evening so it as like we had a private chef! Our server was attentive and had great suggestions on dishes to try. We had the black bean vege burger that was huge! Good flavor, condiments and bun. The fries are delicious. They prepare them in several steps which gives them a good bite and crispy texture. Sitting outside on the patio was also a treat. The fried avocado is a must to try.

This is the best food in Murphys. It’s a super eclectic menu and everything was fantastic. We were recommended to this place from Gina at the Black Sheep tasting room and she did not steer ya wrong. Rob is a gentlemen and a scholar. His place is a little slice of culinary heaven. The bottle of Milliare red blend was the perfect pairing for a lovely warm day and with all the food. We had the following and would recommend and come back for more: — tempura avocado — bacon apple turnover — duck wontons — bear valley burger — chicken wings with whiskey BBQ

What a great find! Anyone with celiac’s knows how hard it is to eat out on vacation. When I mentioned an allergy, the chef came right out to ask about severity and to give me options. I had the flat iron steak with mashed potatoes and veggies. So tasty! The service was great, they checked on us regularly, and the venue was clean and inviting. I look forward to dining here again the next time I’m in town!

Loved the relaxed down home feel at Rob’s. i had the steamed mussels and my husband had the mahi — both delish! Paired with a local wine and the dessert special — Rob’s own rich and creamy chocolate mousse. YUM! We’ll be back!

Such a pleasant surprise! Stranded in Murphys one recent snowy night, I headed into town to find a place to eat. Murphys has many good restaurants, but I’ve been to them all, many times… I passed by Rob’s Place and thought«Hmmm?» I’ve not been there. I quickly checked Unilocal and it was all thumbs up. So I went in and ordered the Bear Valley burger and a nice house salad to go. I know… not very adventurous, but I was craving a really great burger. And you know it’s gonna be a good burger when they ask«How would you like it done?»… While my meal was being prepared the very nice hostess brought me iced tea, and I relaxed on a comfy couch they have in a waiting area. I had a few minutes to take in the ambience and found it so charming. It’s rustic, and stylish, cozy and warm, and perhaps romantic. It fits in Murphy’s for sure. I was having to-go, but the meals I saw being served were beautifully plated and served. And only completely empty plates were going back to the kitchen. Back at my hotel room, I enjoyed my burger immensely. The patty was at least 2 inches thick and precisely medium rare as ordered! Everything was top quality and local or homemade. The house salad was excellent and the blue cheese dressing from scratch. I can’t wait to go back with friends to eat in and try more adventurous fare. Rob’s is a very special place, and you will feel so comfortable there. The food is inspired, and executed expertly. And while just a few steps off the main drag of Murphys, do look for it and enjoy.

Food was great especially their sweet potato curry soup! We just ordered a bunch of appetizers. Mary was our server and was sweet enough to let us try some of the soup before we placed our order. We were the last ones in there and they never rushed us out. We ended up staying after and talking to Mary and Rob. They were both very nice ppl! We enjoyed everything and will be back!

Nope, Don’t do it! Don’t order the magic pixie dust tenderized flat iron steak. My niece and I agree, it had a mealy texture and it tasted like liver.

A quaint, cozy stop for a nice lunch, with local wines to boot! Conveniently located near the entrance to Main St. I ordered the BLT on focaccia with a side salad and my wife ordered a salad and prime rib soup(seasonal). Food was exceptional quality though I would have preferred crispier bacon. I wouldn’t be surprised if the bread was from a local bakery. Portions were surprisingly large — neither of us were able to clean our plates. Salads had a nice blend of greens with alfalfa sprouts as a topper. Staff was very nice and attentive. We were in and out within 30 – 45 min. Plenty of other great options on the menu such as pastas, flat steaks, and a variety of soups salads and sandwiches. Meals range from $ 10-$ 25.

Just enjoyed a lovely dinner on the patio. Mary was our very capable server. The patio had customers at 6 tables –16 people — and Mary didn’t miss a beat. Started with the Tempura Avocado appetizer. I could eat that every day. Was so delish and really didn’t need the sauces. One order of the special — Baja Fish Tacos. I wished that had been my order. I had the Mussels and linguini. Loved it too. Was very impressed. Rob the owner/chef sat us and introduced himself. Local wines are served. Perfect evening. Was planning to give 5 stars until we observed an ABC issue.

What’s to expect in a touristy place on a mountain? I had a pleasant evening on Wednesday last week. Live soothing music, down home deco, homey feeling… My New York steak was a bit bloody and tasty. The sauteed vegetables were crunchy with texture. The Jasmine rice was not too Asian but still going great with my meal. The soup of the day was tomato bisque. It’s smooth and tasty, sliding down the throat quickly. There were a few desserts. The crème filled chocolate covered cannolis was rich but just enough to hit the G-buds. Rob is the owner and chef. He is a great host too. He made round to each table that night. We had a great chat. He is my good buddy now. When it’s great, it’s a treat. So diners, this is a «medium» rare find in Murphys.

We came to eat at robs for lunch after seeing the Calaveras big trees. Rob was the one who personally took our order. He was the kindest guy and wow does he make delicious food! This place would have the longest wait ever if it were located in San Francisco or something. If you ever find yourself in this area definitely stop by Robs for a fabulous meal and great service!

What an adorable, spiffied up Gold Rush town Murphys is. For those of us who are charmed by antiquity, it’s here. For those who love modernization, yuppie finery and foodie indulgences, look no further. One foot in the 19th Century, the other in the 21st Century. I think Murphys somehow captured both. As you enter this little town from Hwy 4 onto«Main Street»(of course, what else would you call it?), one of the first things you will pass by is Rob’s Place. An unassuming building in an unassuming neighborhood, you will see a quaint, outdoor patio with umbrella’d tables surrounded by a little white fence with colorful flowers in flower boxes. You could easily, blindly drive by. So stay alert. It’s what’s inside that counts. You will step inside and find yourself in a cool«coffee house» environment. So cozy and casual, with smooth music and clean, modern design. A saxophone is mounted on one wall. More on that later. Wednesday nights are advertised on their website as the best nights here. Live music, live jazz. Check their schedule. Grab a seat and start swirling a glass of local wine. Then, enjoy the menu. Now, down to the nitty gritty: Rob’s Bear Valley Burger — almost a half pound of the most wonderfully tender, juicy ground beef with an 81% to 19%, meat to fat ratio cooked to a perfect medium rare thanks to a chef who treats his food with respect. Mr. B had trouble keeping me away from eating his(and I had been trying so hard to not eat meat). The meat was sublime, complimented with good tomatoes and a wonderful, airy bun. His came with a huge pile of the most deliciously addictive french fries. Yes, get them or you’ll be kicking yourself later. Veggie Burger — A panko coated patty made from scratch with black beans, rice, flax seed, and potato. Very tasty in its own sesame seed bun. Say yes to the garlic aioli and you will not regret it. I thoroughly enjoyed my beautiful side salad with house made dressing, too. Then came dessert, a Mousse Chocolate Pie. Chocolate cookie crust leading to a dense chocolate layer, topped with a lovely chocolate mousse and whipped cream. I don’t know who came up with this recipe, but any chocoholic will thank me for the«heads up» as they bury their face in that divine concoction. Now for the story about the saxophone on the wall. You see, there was supposed to be a real, live jazz musician the evening we were there. A no-show, unfortunately. However, jovial Chef/owner Rob removed the sax, announced he only knew two songs, then proceeded to play. Rob’s serenade? Yep, Happy Birthday. No matter that no one was celebrating one right then. Rob was a delight. It is appreciated that he comes out of the kitchen and enjoys his customers. He went around and spoke with his guests and everyone had such a fun time. Delightful experience! I would return in a heartbeat.

we all really enjoyed our food. I had the halibut and it was superb! Others had the lasagne and hamburger. The food was great all around. The lasagne had fresh shaved parm on it. The burger was served on a ciabata bun and came with a ton of fries, more than what a normal human could eat, but my uncle scarffed them all down. To be fair, I could have taken them all down as well, partly because they were seasoned fries. We didn’t have to wait long for our food and everything came out together. Part way through the meal a man(who I assume was Rob) came out with another serving of halibut. What??? He said he thought the other portion might have been a little dry, so he made another piece. The extra piece was beautifully plated and everything. He went above and beyond. I’ve never had anything like this happpen anywhere. I shared the extra portion with the table and everyone thought it was delicious. the initial piece was a little drier than the second piece, but they were both excellent and I would have been happy with the first piece. I should have taken a pic or the before and after, my plate was completely cleaned in the after. The sauce on the fish wasnt too strong or spicy, but it was perfect for the dish. Rob’s Place made a great first impression and we will be sure to visit again.
