Murphys Irish days used to be great with Irish music and dancing and food, a child friendly event. Disappointed with all the loud vehicles in the parade having nothing to do with murphys or Irish days, especially the LOUD fume spewing Safeway shopping cart float – we don’t even have a Safeway in Murphys. Too many drunken people. Perhaps it is a victim of it’s own success but sure hope it can be scaled back to preserve the lovely small town event that it used to be!

The worst run street fair I’ve ever attended and I’ve been to a few.

The middle of March can be a tricky time to plan an outdoor event. Some years it’s raining, some years snowing, and this year it was beautiful and in the 70’s. So, depending on the weather this is either a great time, or a bummer. The only down side about the good weather is that SO many people come! It can be difficult just to get from one end of town to the other, but not impossible, and the people watching is first class! You get to see some real characters! In case you’re not aware… this is a street fair; they close off main street to traffic and set up food and vendor booths up and down the street. There are two main stages with live music, and a couple spots to see jugglers or other street performers. And some of the wineries have their own performers. Oh, and a parade to kick it off. Lots of green, lots of food, lots of beer! Good times.

«Kiss Me, I’m Irish!», «Luck of the Irish» and«Top o’ the morning!» These sayings and more were heard or seen(on t-shirts) during the annual Murphys Irish Days celebration last Saturday. This event is a must attend celebration for locals and visitors alike. Main Street is closed to through traffic due to all of the food and craft stands up and down the street. Frozen cheesecake? Yes please! Patrons are decked out in various shades of green. Many have partaken in the age-old tradition of beer consumption. The crowd is definitely more of a beer drinking crowd, rather than the usual wine tasting peeps who frequent Murphys. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, but I’m just saying. Having grown up in the area, it is really fun seeing people I know and catching up(aka gossiping). Plus, it is a good excuse to do a little wine tasting. I mean, I’m near the tasting rooms after all. ;)
