I was looking for steak and seafood and was surprised to hear that Murphy, NC had a restaurant that fit the bill. The interior is dated, the service is friendly but extremely slow. There was no bartender so the waitress has to play bartender too. The wedge salad was drowning in blue cheese dressing, the calamari and the steak were fabulous! I had only one drink because the waitress is so busy«multi-tasking» that she never came back around and asked about drink refills. Bottom line, there is not much to choose from in Murphy and the food is good but extreamly over priced for what you get. On my next visit to Murphy I think I will try something else.

I had lowered my expectations somewhat, considering the size of the town. I shouldn’t have. Murphy’s Chophouse serves exquisite food in an unpretentious setting with excellent service. We arrived a few minutes before our reservation time and were seated immediately. I ordered a couple of glasses of a Merlot meritage while we examined the menus. My wife, who is from a coastal city in China and a bit of a seafood snob, ordered the shellfish dinner. In her words, the lobster and shrimp were fresher than any restaurant she’s tried in Atlanta. My trout was so fresh it could have been swimming in a local river earlier that day. Our son got the bison burger and raved about the flavor and about how juicy it was. Desserts were over the top. I had the 5-layer chocolate cake, which could have fed 3 people. My daughter got the cheesecake and said it was fantastic. This was just an excellent dinner experience all the way around. Kudos to the chef and to the front of house staff.

One of my favorite places to go for dinner. From the delicious steak to the impeccable service we always enjoy eating here. Our favorite server(Matt) was great last time we went with family. He greeted us with a smile, informed us about the specials, always filled our glasses and was timely on food. From start to finish was a great night!

Great experience, lunch was wonderful. Best French Onion soup in Murphy. Beats Doyle’s by a long shot. Wife’s black bean soup was a huge hit, salad was beautiful and my sandwich was fantastic.

Great food, great service. We had the mozzarella lollipops, light breading and delicious! My husband had the bison burger, juicy and flavorful. I had the chicken strips, light breading and very good. The apple butterscotch bread pudding was good, probably would have preferred the chocolate cake. Would come back when in the area.

A group of friends went here to celebrate two birthdays and were treated very rudely and unprofessionally. The server stated that it would be at least 20 minutes before he could even get to us for drinks. We said that was fine. He then came back five minutes later and suggested we go elsewhere.

The service was excellent. My husband and I ate dinner. We both had prime rib. Mine was under seasoned and didn’t have the normal Au Jus on the side to dip the meat, which I like because I am not a fan of horseradish. My prime rib was also over cooked. I did like the Caesar salad and blooming onion appetizer with Cajun dipping sauce. I loved the Bread that came with our meals. I would eat here again and try something different. The atmosphere was nice for a dining experience.

Ate dinner this time at Murphys and wow! What a fabulous dinner. There were 7 of us dining and everyone’s meal was perfect. Salads were fresh, filet mignon was superb with a tasty sauce, fried pork chops were excellent, onion soup flavorful. Drinks were excellent as well. Highly recommend for an enjoyable and flavorful dinner. Our lunchtime experience was definitely not as good as this one, so next time we will eat dinner there and not lunch. Honestly, it was one of the best filets I have ever had!

Ordered to go from Chophouse and was pleased with 2⁄3 of my meal. Unfortunately the 1⁄3 I didn’t enjoy was the entrée, which makes me question returning. To go service was friendly. French onion soup– very tasty. Lots of cheese and a giant ‘croûton’ included. Summer berry salad with chicken– what a disappointment. The chicken appears to be frozen and prepared early in the day, not made to order. The chicken was cut into perfect cubes and was so tough I could barely chew it. The sparse blue cheese, strawberries, and pecans were all that I ate out of the salad. For a restaurant like this, I expect much better for the chicken. Chocolate layer cake– so rich but so yummy! This is really decadent and a huge portion that can be shared with many.

The restaurant serves high quality, chef prepared food. They have great lunch specials – tasty and very affordable. And on Friday lunch they have a special of fish and chips – extremely tasty, and cheaper than McDonalds. A great place to visit, whether a local or just visiting Murphy.

What happened to the Chop House? This used to be our go to place for dinner; however, I’m not too sure if I would go back again after today’s experience. We decided to have a late lunch; the place was not that busy. My wife ordered an Alfredo pasta dish; I ordered a rib eye steak. After placing the order, it took a LONG time to receive our food. Although the restaurant was not that busy, no bread was served or reason given for the long delay. The Alfredo looked good, but was modest portion. It had a hunk of Italian bread, but no butter or oil. The steak was loaded with fat and had little flavor. A side dish of broccoli was served, but it was overcooked and had yellowish color. VERYDISAPPOINTINGMEAL.

From the excellent service to the amazing prime rib, this is the place to go! You must have the Cesar salad, chopped and mixed to perfection ! The bread is glorious. This has certainly been the highlight of our trip!

FANTASTICDININGEXPERIENCE!!! PERSONALLYMETTHECHEF. My better half had filet mignon with sea scallops and I had filet mignon with the crab cake both steaks were cooked to perfection the crab cake was the best I’ve ever had. The sea scallops were divine. I highly recommend the Caesar salad also… this place knows how to make an original Caesar salad. Don’t forget about dessert we had crème brûlée and cheese cake with a salted caramel drizzle. The wine selection is very extensive and Dave was our waiter. Ask for Dave next time you’re in Murphy and go to the Chop House. Hi Dave, Red Bull Mike out.

So this is an ‘upscale’ steak house, hmm me thinks that in an upscale steak house the server would know the difference between prime rib and ribeye, and when the error was pointed out, offer to get the correct cut of meat, not offer a dessert as compensation. Further, the chef might be surprised to know that when preparing chilli lime shrimp, the chilli lime should not overwhelm the shrimp. Horrible — the spices overwhelmed the shrimp so completely that you could only tell it was a piece of shrimp by the tail. The roasted cheesy cauliflower was good, however roasted does not mean blackened. The salad — lettuce wedge and the warm bread with dipping oil was nice. It was an adequate but disappointing meal with mediocre service considering the reviews I have previously read about the place I expected more. It also should noted that the live dinner entertainment should probably be at level that allows normal conversation, and not sound like cauterwaulling of skewered calf. Entertainment suitable for the patio seating area doesn’t work when moved into the dining room. The price was about the same as a Longhorn, but the quality was about the level of a indifferently run Sagebrush, Ruth Chris has nothing to worry about. Over all, two stars, maybe an off night so we might give it one more try the next time we are in the area, unless of course Murphy gets a Longhorn, then we will go there, at least it will be consistent.

Not too many restaurants to visit, decided to have dinner at Murphy’s Chophouse, it was Tuesday and they had unlimited crableg night, I opted for their special — grouper fish! It turned out to be quite bland and overpriced, service was fine, although the whole place needed some life, it was too quiet and boring, probably will try Doyle’s next time

This place used to be really nice«go to» place for a casual lunch or if you had a fancy dinner occasion, but not anymore. Each time I go there it seems to get worse and worse. Their lunch specials are reasonably priced. The last time I was there with my mom for lunch we both got the soup and salad special. The soup was corn chowder and came out cold and really wasn’t all that great(after we asked to get it warmed up). The salad seemed to be lacking the ingredients it used to have(chickpeas, peppers, olives, etc.) and the lettuce wasn’t fresh. I used to adore their house dressing and it really lacks the flavor it used to. Chophouse is «fancy» for Murphy, which is a nice change of scenery or if you have company in, or an occasion to celebrate, but is not up to par to what it used to be. The prices are way too over the top for the quality of food(at least dinner) and service you receive. I would opt to go to Shoebooties over Chophouse any day now. The service has really gone down hill as well. I hear they have management issues and it really shows with the turnover of employees and how often they are hiring, but I I digress. All I all, I probably won’t return to Chophouse at my own will unless someone turns it back around. Such a shame because when it first opened I really enjoyed it.

07.01.2015 Well after a three year hiatus we wet back… :-( Our neighbor from Florida had a birthday. His choice was Chophouse or Doyle’s. He chose Chophouse. I did not make my comments about the Chophouse until after dinner service. He was disappointed. — No Kidding? I don’t understand the visitors who come up from FL. People from FL come here and see a fancy name like Murphy’s Chophouse and assume it is going to be good. Don’t ask the people who live here. With a dinner for two ranging from 60.00– 100.00 without drinks, this place should be five stars every time. I feel if possibly three people in the Chophouse gave a crap about the restaurant or their lively-hood this place could be amazing. I am guessing the management doesn’t care so why should the staff? It starts with the basics. Refill drinks. My glass was brought to the table full before the appetizers, half way through it was empty and I never saw a refill and the waitress didn’t stay long enough to notice ALL of the glasses on the table were empty. With this in mind I looked around at other tables and everyone else’s glasses were empty. WTF! This is a management problem. It wasn’t just our waitress, it was every server. Shoe Booties has a person whose only job is to keep drinks full. Where to start with the food? I ordered the French Onion soup. It was OK and up to the low Murphy, NC standards. I didn’t want to blow a ton of money so I went cheap and got some chicken tender plate with mac-n-cheese. The chicken tenders came out cold. The guy next to me had the same and we both were disappointed. The mac-n-cheese could have been out of this world if they used different noodles and actually cooked them to completion and maybe flavored the cheese. The whole dish was bland. My wife got the mig-non steak. No way could this piece of medium cooked beef be a choice prime cut of tender loin and call filet mignon. It didn’t even have a decent flavor to it. Disappointment is what they serve at Murphy’s Chophouse. I wish people would not grade them on a curve because they are happy visiting the Murphy area. Rate the businesses in Murphy as you would any place in your local neighborhood. You’re on vacation expect more and let your consumer dollars do the talking.
