My wife and I love this place. Great quality sushi, very reasonable prices. We ate there once and did carry out as well just one week later given we liked the food so much. All of the rolls were delicious! Mountain, red dragon, green turtle, summer, etc. So very fresh.
It’s a small restaurant in a strip mall across from Bill’s Pub. It’s nice inside with simple décor. It does not have the ambiance of a more expensive place. Service was very good. We will be back… soon!

I live in the city but work out in the northwestern burbs. Came across Yumi one night when out with my girlfriend who lives in the area. Just happened to notice it while getting pizza for her daughter and friends so we stopped in to get an order to go. They offered us a free sample of a chef’s special, while we waited for our order, that was a tuna in a soy/​sesame oil sauce with vegetables that was delicious. Got home and the Maki and nigiri were just as great. Went back and ate there a few weeks later and again everything offered and ordered were superb. I’ve eaten a lot of Sushi over the years and they equal or excel over almost anything I’ve had. If you’re in the Diamond Lake area I highly recommend you check it out!

Tried Yu-​Mi for the first time for lunch today with my daughter. Everything was excellent, including the service. Sushi tasted fresh, establishment was very nice and clean. Highly recommended.

Chef made a complimentary tuna sashimi app with olive oil, citrus and wow it was Yumi!
Special request made– no problem.
Sashimi was delicious. Super fresh, nice portions.
Summer roll a must try!

Heard the new restaurant opened after Sushi Joon closed and thought we’d give it a try. Really enjoyed everything. The fish and rolls all tasted fresh and were well prepared. They even had a version of my favorite veggie Chirashi. Definitely coming back.

I just picked up some sushi for dinner. The California roll was pretty great and the spider roll was good. I also got a spicy salmon roll and it just tasted off. Maybe that the fish wasn’t so great or something… but the taste was very bland.
Prices are very reasonable… and I will go back and try the salmon a different day.

i stopped by here since it is very close to my house. I was surprised. It is so cheap, good portion and delicious. The staff were very friendly and nice cozy.
i had agedashi tofu, spicy fire, golden shrimp, sashimi deluxe, spicy tuna, black dragon and negi hamachi. Everything was very fresh and delicious. I really loved their spicy fire which is deep fried jalapeño with spicy tuna and cream cheese with eel sauce. Nice worm and cheezy with spiciness. Golden shrimp was xtra yummy too! Not greasy! Nothing made me disappointed!

First time back at Yu Mi Sushi since Sushi Joon. The owners have not missed a beat.. Wakame (seaweed salad) garnished with a Japanese mint started the exceptional meal. The Gyoza was amazing. The light crust on the tempura did not detract from the shrimp, sweet potato, zucchini, and onion’s taste like most tempura’s. Nice nice touch of a small mushroom. The delicious Rosemary tuna presented well but the Rosemary flavor was subtle and I’d say barley detectable, the only unfortunate comment I’ll make. The Unagi was tender as could be resulting in my conclusion the chef knows exactly what he is doing. We concluded dinner with an exceptional Mochi ice cream and complementary Japanese sugar cone filled with ice cream.
Summary, rarely will I give 5 stars so 4 is exceptional for a fresh, inexpensive meal.
Guaranteed you will not be disappointed.

Yumi Sushi has taken over the space where Sushi Joon used to be. With the new owner is a new menu. I tried and really liked the Asparagus Scallop Butteryaki. The asparagus is grilled with butter and garlic and then is cut and stacked to resemble a raft. The scallops are a little thin, but taste great. I also tried the Volcano. The spicy tuna is a little more harsh when compared to Joon’s, but still a good roll. The décor is updated too, but service is still friendly. I’ll be back soon.

I wondered when they were going to reopen, but finally!!! Clean, spacious and everyone seems nice and friendly. The food was amazing. Sushi was so fresh and rolls were well made. So pleased with service too. Definitely coming back!!! Glad we have some place like this in Mundelein.

Ordered 3 rolls togo. Ordered lobster roll and asked repeatedly for no tempura on anything. Got home and got tempura. GF wife sad. Sushi Joon RIP.

This was one of the best sushi places I’ve been to! Absolutely wonderful service, but they’re only open for dinner 10⁄2015 while they do training — not sure when that changes. The Ebi Cheese Ball is a great starter– the sauce, golden egg, is a particular highlight of this dining experience. I nearly licked the bowl before they took it away! They also had the sauce on the complimentary salad. The miso soup was wonderful without it! The Age Dashi Tofu was so good, I forgot to take a picture. It came in a broth that was absolutely scrumptious, I 100% recommend. We also ordered the large and miraculous Lobster Roll, the Shrimp Tempura Roll, and the Don Katsu. The Don Katsu was spot on– I’ve been looking for somewhere that serves it– I was not disappointed. The Lobster Roll was absolutely delicious! We ended up ordering too much food, but that just means a better than average lunch tomorrow! I’m sure I’ll be back soon!
