John Lucente’s Barber Shop

John gave me the best haircut I have ever had in my last 5 years in the US. He is an awesome old fashioned barber with 50 years of experience. He got what kind of haircut I wanted and gave the same precisely. Happy that I have finally found a good place for haircut.

Great old-​fashioned barber. Gave a precise cut in a timely manner and for just $ 14! Included a taper with a blade. Atmosphere is great!
Notes: closed on Wednesday and Sundays and they only take cash/​check, no credit cards.

I’ve sent my fiancé several places to get his long beard and hair cut. I found this spot on Unilocal and decided to try it. We walked in together, I was clearly out of place (traditional boys only barber shop feel where you watch tv and shoot the shit) but they were nice to me still. It’s walk-​in only and cash or check payment. Other places have butchered his amazing beard, didn’t line up the sides or chin and hacked the whole thing off. John was careful and shaped his beard properly and lined it up. He did need to request the beard and sideburns line up straight but it wasn’t a problem. He did listen well and was able to properly fade the sides leaving the top long so it an be styled back and ultimately put in a trendy man bun. John even used a straight razor to clean the neck perfectly. He finished by styling his hair back with a perfect vintage wave. The total cost for his amazing service…$ 14. Now that’s a great deal, especially for the quality of work. They also do hot shaves with a straight razor for $ 25.
This place is a perfect, classic barber shop. It’s all men cutting. John said he’s been doing this over 50 years. It took a long time to find this place and several fake barber shops where a cosmetologist cuts beards and hair. In my opinion, the only one that can appreciate how to properly trim beards is a male barber. The quality of work is just better.

They are open kinda goofy days, so call and be sure they’re open, but I’ve gotten a great cut every time and the price is fair. What more can I ask for?

Wow what a great haircut and beard trim! I even was lucky enough to have John himself cut my hair. Mille grazie signore!

I live in Los Angeles, but have relatives in Mundelein. When I know I’m going to be in town, I stop getting haircuts for an extra month or two, so I can get it done at John’s place. I get a bit shaggy in anticipation, but it’s hard to find a barber in LA as good as all the guys at John’s. The haircut is always simple and precise, and grows out well.

Dom is the best barber I’ve seen in Illinois. His prices are too low for the quality he gives. He seems to be motivated by a good head of hair, I get the best razor cuts a fine head of hair can have. His father trained him well (John Lucente).

I have to go a touch out of my way for my haircut, but I do — definitely worth it. They all cut my hair well, so no wait usually for me.

Hometown Barber — Personal Service
I grew up going to Lucente’s Barber Shop and have not found a comparable option since. While the quality of haircuts varies (sometimes widely) by barber, the service was always great and the barbers stayed there meaning that you learned who was right for you. They remembered the clients as well, knowing how you liked your hair cut. Great place! Kudos to Dom in particular.
