IS Special is great. Quit seating usually and quick service. Not AWAYS the best, but sketchy visits are not common, at least not common enough to stop coming. If you like Mexican food you will love this place!

Love this place! Food is always fresh and well prepared, and if not they are always willing to fix any issue. Great size portions and the prices are spot on!

I’m from Houston, Texas originally. Grew up with real Tex-Mex, surrounded by Mexican families and real Mexican food. This place makes me and my stomach happy. Salsa on point, my favorite is actually the chicken tacos sauteed with onions and served with salsa verde and homemade tortillas.(That’s a big deal it makes all the difference.) It’s just got all the right flavors as they should be. Doing it right. Bring all of my friends and family who visit to Puerto Vallarta.

The BEST in the AREA, that I’ve had; MEXICAN. This place is always busy, so I went early. The décor is GREAT, with the feeling of Old Mexico. The wait staff were great, and the food was great. My waiter was the best. The only«ISSUE» was that the host overlooked myself and another person, as if he didn’t want us there, and when a couple came in, he seated them, an waited on the gent in front of me. Finally the host looked at me, as if to say, «WHAT the HELL do you want.» I asked, «MAY I EATHERE» ?? I don’t think the owner enjoys learning this, with everything else GREAT, why a «looser HOST» to seat?

Being a server myself, I wasn’t all too impressed with the service that I received while at my first visit to this hyped up Mexican restaurant. Although I will say that I don’t recall seeing many other servers, if not any at all. Which in that case I’m thankful she was able to get her job done in a nice, timely manner. The way they have their seating set up is somewhat odd, where my friend & I were sat at I felt very secluded & when we got up to leave it was apparent we were standing right in the little space for a walkway. The hostess hardly had any manners and rather waiting for me to get my stuff and move she kept walking towards me so I had to back up & move out of her way. Other than those minor, not all too bothersome issues, the food came out great! Nothing too fancy about it, but up to my expectations so that was good! Also a nice little addition that the chips & salsa are complimentary! Okay first visit, will definitely go back to give it another go around sometime!

Left Muncie four years ago and still haven’t found a Mexican restaurant I love as much this place. Complimentary chips and salsa are great and I always ordered the enchiladas. Lots of yummy food for a great price. Miss this place a lot.

When Puerto Vallarta opened, it was the first«authentic» Mexican restaurant. Ok, maybe it isn’t authentic, but it sure seemed that way when the other option was Chi Chi’s. The food is pretty typical of what you find at Mexican restaurants americanized for the Midwest. Since it first opened, I’ve had better Mexican food – but I still have a soft sport for«Porta’s»(in Muncie-speak). And don’t get me wrong, the food is solid… they do a good job with the tortilla chips, too. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in Funcie.

This is one of my favorite restaurants in Muncie. The staff is generally pretty nice and they also make food for carryout. My favorite part of this place are the taco salads I always order. I love that they are shaped like a giant taco or boat, because I just find it so adorable. I always get the cheese dip to add some extra gooeyness to it, but I find myself melting every time I eat it because it’s so good. Some of the other things that my friends eat look super luscious. I like to get a little nibble on some of them too, because I’m one of those friends. hehe

Great place to go for Mexican food. Plenty of things to choice from and the quality and quantity is worth the wait. Waiters and waitresses are attentive and very pleasant. Alot more authentic style Mexican than most Mexican Restaurants. We always get the Fajitas for 2. Always have enough left over to take home. They provide you with boxes to take home the left overs including sauces and chips.

Delicious Mexican food. The menu is very typical to what you’d find in a «standard» mex-mex restaurant in central Indiana(lunch specials, fajitas, tacos, numbred list of «specials») with a few more additions that aren’t as typical, in my experience. I tried the Shrimp Taco Salad, which was huge. And very tasty. Next time I will order it with the cheese on the side, however, because I’m not a huge fan of cheese on my seafood. The fried shell was perfect when dipped into the guacamole and salsa. I was completely stuffed by the time I was finished. The queso dip is great, as well. Service is fast, but not rushed. Absolutely my favorite mexican restaurant in Muncie.

UGH, you get what you pay for :( Everything is filled with pure Unstrained oily meat. Tacos, burritos, quesadillas… Tons of oil! It’s pretty nasty. Either it should blotted/dried prior to serving or the cook should use less oil. The three of us had to pick through and blot our meals. Not so bueno. Left us feeling pretty disgusting. Where are the sides? PV hardly gives any lettuce or toppings. Basically it’s a fatty meat overdose. My arteries are wincing as I type. Salsa and chips are decent, however salsa tastes like it came from a jar and not fresh. Pico de gallo is way too heavy on the raw onion. Which made it inedible. Not enough gum in the world could cover that smell on your breath. Guac is yummy. Service is great and very friendly. No choice on beans?!? What?!? Refried or nothing. No pinto or black beans. Super bummed about this. Have been here many times, however now that there is so much more competition in town, Puerta Vallerta will not make the cut. They may have a few locations, however I suspect that is based on the familiarity with the name. Once people start trying the other Mexican joints, locality will drop. You need to step up your game PV!

Best Mexican food in town! Always hot, fresh, and authentic. Wide selection in the bar of beer and great margaritas. Queso dip is amazing! Salsa is also best in town. Great chicken chimichanga meal, nachos, burritos, and quesadillas. Friendly service, and meal is served really quickly! Prices are fair.

Commonly referred to as «Puertas» by the local college students here at Ball State University is one of the most down to earth beat Mexican places around! It is fast service and great food with great people! One of my favorite things to get is the steak and cheese fajita! A lot of favorites are the California burrito as well as the Is-special! Hate to admit it but my friends and I go at least 2 times a week :)

I’ve eaten at the best Mexican joints across the country(NYC, San Francisco, etc.) and NOTHING compares to «Puerta» as the Muncie locals call it. I wouldn’t say it’s the most authentic Mexican food, but it’s delicious, VERY inexpensive, fast — I don’t think I’ve ever waited for a table or waited longer than 15 minutes for food after I ordered. The white queso — which is so delicious I have dreams about it — doesn’t exist other places in the country. You ask for queso and they look at you like you’re nuts. Just FYI. Some of my «Puerta» faves: Fajita Nachos(a half order is pretty big), Taco Salad, Fajitas, and OFCOURSE, margs. All their entrees come with huge sides of rice and beans, lettuce, tomatoes, and sour cream. Portions are ginormous, in true Muncie fashion, making the value incredible.

If you happen across Funcie-Muncie, this is THE place to eat for BSU students {commonly referred to as PUERTAS}. So, as I was up there for business with BSU students, it was naturally chosen ahead of time to eat there. I’ve been there a few times and remembered their service was awesome and food was decent. However when you’re in a group of 40 – 50 people, things can change. This place did not! I don’t think they take RSVPs but were forewarned ahead of time about our group. Everyone was quickly seated and about 3 waiters made sure our 8 tables were covered for chips & salsa, drinks & food. Chips and salsa were amazing a) because they served the chips hot & fresh b) any time a basket ran empty, we were refilled. Many in our group ordered margs, which were delicious & strong [props to the bartender!]. Food took a little long to get out but I can’t complain just because of everything else.

I’m not an expert on Mexican food, so I can’t show just how authentic this place is. I CAN say I’ve never got a bad meal here. The service is always fast and friendly, the food is hot and tasty, and the prices are EXTREMELY reasonable. We’re in Muncie a few times a year, and we nearly ALWAYS make a stop here. They’ve earned my repeat business!

We met here for a ‘girls night’…8 girls just sitting around with some cheese dip and big pitchers of margaritas($ 14 a pitcher). What could be better, really? Antionio greeted us and we were promptly seated at a table for large parties — very quick seating for a Saturday night! Our server Jesus did not appear to mind us taking up his table at all. He was attentive and friendly – never did we feel rushed. I am not sure if it was the company or the service, but we had a great time. It was very warm in the room where we were, but not a deal breaker. Next time I will try the food. :)

This is personally one of my favorite restaurants in Muncie. The food isn’t necessarily authentic but it’s always good. I almost always get the fajita quesadilla, which is fantastic and enough for dinner and lunch the next day! The salsa taste varies from day to day, but you can always add some hot sauce if needed. The one thing that I dislike is the service. Recently service has been extremely slow and sub-par. Service used to be very quick, but the last time I went, we weren’t served chips and salsa until our food had already come, we had to wait at least 15 minutes to order just our drinks, the wait staff was sitting in the back on their cell phones, and we waited a long time after finished our meal to get the check. Short version — the food is great, but the service leaves a lot to be desired. Only go if you’re prepared to wait — a lot.

Whether it be for a celebration, a dinner with friends or for the simple fact of a margarita craving, Puerto’s is your spot. Their margaritas — my oh my. Full of power. I suggest coming with a DD after you indulge in one of their fine drinks. I’m fond of Puero’s «IT Special.» So good. It has been a favorite ever since my freshman year at Ball State. I can’t tell you how many times I went to Puerto’s during my four years in Muncie. A lot. It seemed to be the place to go for any gathering. With it being on Tillotson, it’s literally just a jump away from campus. I’m not a huge fan of their most recent salsa option. It didn’t used to be so spicy — but it seems that they turned up the heat. Overall, a wonderful Mexican restaurant worthy of your time. Yay Muncie! If Muncie has anything to offer, it’s Ball State and Puerto’s.
