The Muncie Hobby Lobby use to be a great place to shop but in the past couple years myself and most of my artist friends only use it for emergencies or go out of town to the other Hobby Lobby stores. More times than I can count I have had to go back after leaving the store to get a refund because sale items were not rang up at the sale price. I have had to stand there and wait while cashiers and the manager argue which department some items belong in to determine if the item is actually on sale or not. Where the item is located in the store or if it has a sale sign with it does not make any difference in this store. It’s a matter of who gives in first. Prior to the current manager this Hobby Lobby would take competitor coupons but now they won’t. Other Hobby Lobby stores still do, I just used one last week in a Hobby Lobby in Kentucky. They don’t carry near as much as the other Hobby Lobby stores in the area and depending on who you ask it is difficult to get them to order anything for you. Trying to talk to the manager is impossible unless you prepare yourself to be treated with disrespect and rudeness. He has made it very clear on several occasions that he does not care if customers come back or not, he has actually told me he does not care if I shop somewhere else despite the fact that I am the Director of a non profit organization for disabled and emerging artists and often purchase hundreds of dollars worth of supplies when I do shop there. This was over a cashier who didn’t give me the advertised percentage off on my purchases which came up to over $ 50 and I was in a hurry to get to a doctor appointment. I tried telling him I was in a hurry and that I had told the girl that the items were on sale but she still rang them up full price. When I told her she had over charged me she said it was already in the register and she was new and didn’t know how to fix it so I would have to pay for it then go get a refund. She would not call anyone to help her and I was in a hurry so I went ahead and wrote a check then went to the refund counter. Rather than try to get my refund done quickly he answered his cell phone and took a personal phone call at the register for over 10 minutes while I stood there waiting. This store is also often in violation of the ADA having ladders, carts, and boxes of merchandise in the aisles where you can’t get through with a wheel chair or wheeled walker during business hours. Displays are sometimes built into aisles so that I cannot get down them with my walker and I have never been offered assistance when I have large purchases like I have at the other Hobby Lobby stores. On several occasions when purchasing large selections of sheet glass the cashiers have only looked at the price of the top sheet and then asked me how many sheets of stained glass I have and rang them all up at the same price despite the fact that there are a number of different price points in stained glass. Then they put 10 to 12 pieces of glass in a plastic bag and don’t even bother to double it or wrap the glass to keep it from breaking. After reporting this to the manager and telling cashiers more than once I decided if they want to cheat themselves that way I have done my duty by reporting it so I just let them ring it up how ever they want to now. I stop at Hobby Lobby stores all over Indiana and Kentucky and the Muncie store is by far the worst for customer service, friendliness, stock on hand and the knowledge of their staff. If you can get to any of the other Hobby Lobby stores I would recommend you check them out, you will be amazed at the difference.

I am a paper crafter and this is Mecca. We don’t have a Hobby Lobby here in Hawaii and let me just say, I’m envious at all the other crafters that live near one. The place is HUGE and has about 4 or 5 aisles of paper, rubber stamps, adhesives, die cutting machines, sticker makers, embellishments, stickers… I could go on and on. and that’s just the paper stuff! I found aisles more of fabric, home décor, canvas, paints, wood, and a whole bunch of other stuff! Not only is this place well stocked, the prices are great too. About half the price of what I pay at my local craft store. On top of these good prices, there are insane coupons online or in the local Muncie newspaper that usually gives you 40%(also good sales weekly). I ended up hitting up the big HL about 3 times during my visit and filled an entire suitcase full of stuff! While no one greeted me at this location or asked if I wanted help, it was easy to find an associate to help me find what I was looking for. There were also associates stocking shelves and such so if a customer needed help, they could easily get it.

I had better luck in this Hobby Lobby. i.e. – I spent more than I should have! I still didn’t find as much of the brand I was looking for but found more items that could substitute for the ones I was after. It was worth the stop anyway.
