Dr. Kamaka is the best. My parrot has been going to her for over10 years. She is very knowledgeable and gentle even with my temperamental parrot. Bravo, great place to go to. Could not recommend higher.

The entire staff is awesome! Friendly, knowledgeable, and not even slightly annoyed that we brought our 3 young boys along :) Another vet quoted us almost $ 1000 just to diagnose what was going on with our bunny, the cost at Kamaka Exotic was less than $ 200 including the treatment. Super reasonable prices and fantastic staff! They went above and beyond for our bunny, we will definitely go back for our other pets :)

Nothing short of amazing!
I found that my 6 year old bunny, Hershey, had a few bad teeth that had grown too far. I became really worried (and felt horrible that I hadn’t noticed earlier) and contacted Kamaka’s Exotic Animal. I had requested an appointment online and Kim got back to me almost right away. They were able to get me on the day I needed as well!
The appointment went fantastic. Dr. Kamaka and her tech Kenneth are both amazing. I am usually not a fan of people handling Hershey, but they were great. Handled him with ease and care, making it easier on me :)
They ended up needing to trim his teeth, which required anesthesia and a small amount of drilling. They offered that I could go into the back and watch the procedure, which was awesome! Really shows that they are truly providing the best care.
I really appreciate everyone there, the whole team was awesome! And Hershey is definitely feeling much better — and thats what matters!

Dr Kamaka and her staff are amazing at what they do. I had my two birds in to see her on Saturday and she was very thorough and gentle. My one bird is terrified of being put into the towel, however with her he was just fine and she did what she could to minimize the stress. I absolutely recommend this vet to anyone with a bird or other pet.

After seeing, Dr. Kamaka, I left worry free. She is very knowlegable about behavior and health of small animals. She did not make me feel like a bad owner, but educated me about both my pets’ health.
Dr. Kamka was there for an abaondoned neglected guinea pig who had such bad mites that he was having seizures. I was extremely emotional and concerned. I went in to see Dr. Kamaka. Within a week he wasn’t having anymore seizures, his fur started growing back. It was much more affortable to have myself administer the oral med that she prescribed rather than IV injection.
Yesterday, I took Twinkie, my budgie, to Dr. Kamaka. Twinkie seemed to be having symptoms of egg binding. Even though I was very worried, she made me feel comfortable and carefree. She educated me calmly about in what she as doing, and what to look for when checking on Twinkie. I always feel so much better after a visit!

Looking for a funny and personable doctor to deal with for your beloved bird or exotic bird? Dr. Kamaka is just that. She is super friendly, hilarious beyond belief, and very detailed oriented. She provides you with lots of information and answers your questions thoroughly.
The one thing I love most about Dr. Kamaka’s practice is you get to be in the same room with your beloved. Whether it be a regular check up or something a little more serious, you can be in the same room. Unlike the Center for Bird and Exotic Animal Medicine in Bothell (horrible place. Don’t ever take your bird there.), you deal with the doctor. Lots of face time with Dr. Kamaka.
Another plus is the staff. If you ever get the chance to read the reviews for the Center for Bird and Exotic Animal, the reviews of people who had terrible experiences are true. I rarely give out 1 or 2 stars unless it was a series of events that lead to a particularly bad experience. After about a year of giving them a shot and dealing with their crappy staff, I was so thrilled when my coworker recommended me here. The staff here is sooo incredibly nice to deal with. Patient, friendly, warm, and welcoming.
I knew I made the right decision to make the switch to Dr. Kamaka when I was surprised they let me in the door while Scotch and Whiskey got their wings clipped. The receptionist said to me: «Well, if doctors let parents in the room when they examine your children, then why wouldn’t we let you go in with your birds? They’re family.»
Great, great practice. A total different experience than the other place. My husband and I both agree that Dr. Kamaka was the smartest decision for our little ones. Our budgies are a testament to that. Usually they are incredibly panicky and terrified of us after getting their wings and nails clipped from the Center for Bird and Exotic Animal. They won’t even come out of their cage when I try. The fact that both Scotch and Whiskey willingly came out of their cage to a total stranger and weren’t traumatized afterwards, we knew Dr. Kamaka is like the bird whisperer. They didn’t hide in their cage when we got home. They were fine to spend time with us. (By the way, they won’t even come out of the cage for my husband!)
We are huge fans and proponents for this place. We have been telling all our fellow bird owners to come here.

I have a rescue Macaw which is interesting since I don’t believe that parrots should be captive (birds are made to fly) but he is already captive and he was attacked by dogs so can’t fly and needs a person so I’m it.
I have a million questions each time I go and she answers all of them.
Dr Kamaka is very relaxed, we joked and laughed but at the same time she was attentive to Henry.
She brought out the flashlight to look in his ears and he freaked. I don’t mean he squawked, I mean he was panicked.
Suddenly she was all business, she became quieter, called in two assistants and explained to them that he was very afraid of the light and she needed them to shield his eyes. She didn’t have to do this. He was in a restraint so she could have just carried on letting him continue to be traumatized but she didn’t.
I was very impressed.
And, bonus, the staff have been consistently out of the way nice to us.

Dr. Kamaka is fabulous. After the worst experience I’ve ever had in my entire life at The Center for Exotic Birds & Animals in Bothell, she fixed my bunny right up! He had an abscess & overgrown teeth due to his previous owner not giving him enough hay. Long story short, she gave him gas instead of an IV (less invasive to his little body) & let me look in his mouth to see what the other vet did & didn’t do (morons…)
No teeth needed pulling & she trimmed the teeth down because the last vet neglected that as well. The number one thing that blew my mind was comparing his charts from the last vet to this vet. He lost A LOT of weight on the powder food & I was told no hay, no pellets, no greens, just the powder. Dr Kamaka was shocked when she heard the other vet told me no real food. She said «He’s gonna get that mush stuck in his sockets more than he would pieces of hay, plus he will be chewing on the right side not the left, if it’s hurting him.»
Paid less than $ 300 as compared to over $ 1,000 at the other vet. Took the bunny home & his eyes lit up when he saw the heaping pile of hay, pellets, & kale. He is now a happy & healthy bunny! They also sent me a «thank you» card about a month later & each of the staff members signed it. Love this vet! Thank you Dr Kamaka!

I adopted a long-​haired guinea pig to keep my other pig who had lost her sister company. The new one was a baby who needed to get spayed a few months after I adopted her, and I found that Dr. Kamaka has lots of experience spaying small animals, guinea pigs in particular. I was a nervous wreck due to reading too much online, and Sarah and Margie were really great to both me and my pig. Dr. Kamaka answered all my questions, did a regular exam, and performed the spay. Three weeks later, my guinea pig is doing great!
I’m particularly thankful for the clinic cell phone for the days they’re not in the office. It’s not for emergencies, but questions that can wait until later that day.
Basically, I’m a fan. I only wish the office were closer (I’m in central Seattle)…

Continues to be extremely helpful with all my questions on the phone. Called today cause I have a new 6 year old Amazon Parrot and they knew I called about my Tweety bird the other day and offered to get a weight check and make sure her feathers are fine without an extra cost. Highly recommend this vet and the little things this vet office does to care about my birds wellness is amazing. The rates she has are some of the best vet rates around and actually look forward to visiting the vet for an avian checkup. Its nice to know how personal they can be and they are flexible with appointments as well. I also like how they allow my bird to remain out and held versus crammed in its carrier when i arrive and allowing the bird to remain comfortable.

Like everyone else has mention this is one amazing clinic. I was recommended by a ferret shelter and brought my baby ferret here after he had an anal prolapse. They were very sweet and saw him between appts as it was an emergency. I only had to wait a couple minutes to see them.
I took him in. He was weighed and had his temperature checked by a very sweet lady. And then Dr. Kamaka came in and ran some tests on him. They gave him some meds showed me how to administer them and I was on my way.
A couple of days later they called me to check up on badgers health which I thought was very sweet of them. I was definitely not expecting that.
They are also very affordable in my opinion. I was expecting to shell out a few hundred as that has been my experience with vets but didn’t have to.
I plan to bring my older ferret to them in a couple weeks for a routine checkup and yearly shots.

Hate to be redundant, but Dr Kamaka and her staff are without question the best anywhere. Smart, compassionate, knowledgeable, patient are only a few of the adjectives that come to mind when I think of them. I have 2 macaws, an amazon, and roughly 2 million questions every time I go to an appointment. Amazing care here. Cannot recommend them highly enough.

I’m very picky about who cares for my parrot, and Dr. Kamaka is not only amazing in handling our bird during checkups, but she takes extra time to answer my millions of questions before, during, and after our bird’s appointments. I’m actually kind of speechless as to how good Dr. Kamaka is; that’s how impressed I am. My bird is happier and healthier than ever thanks to the care and advice from Dr. Kamaka. And the receptionists are awesome too!

Absolutely the best! Since the sad passing of my first hamster, I’ve been a little on edge whenever my current hamster, is looking or acting ill. Dr. Kamaka has been really amazing and understanding every time I’ve brought her in because she understands what I went through with losing my first hamster and she is very compassionate.
Not only is she compassionate and patient, she’s also very skilled. After Dr. Kamaka spayed my hamster, she (my hamster) was up and running around in no time! Highly recommended!

Great Vet and is very knowledgeable. Does the exam in front of you which I feel is very important as any bird will freak out a little when it is taken away from its «flock». Knows all the intricacies and personalities of different bird species. Explains everything going on in a way you can understand. I really feel confident in putting my birds in her care knowing that they couldn’t get better care anywhere else.

We followed Dr Kamaka from her earlier Juanita/​Kirkland location at Eastside Vet. We were touched by her kindness and her compassion when Marbles died as well as by the rest of the staff there. But, whoooohooo! No more bridges to cross! This facility is newer, and it certainly lacks the «character» of the previous place, but that is fine. The hours seems a little strange at first, but i guess it works out better for those who have day jobs, or who come home to a sick pet. She also had given us her home (?) number when Galoshes was really sick and had erratic symptoms.

All I can say about Dr. Kamaka and her staff is WOW!
Not only are they very friendly (Kristi is is very hospitable and extremely good at answering questions and contacting you regarding appointment dates/​times), but they are compassionate and patient with animals.
I took my mini lop, Patches here for a regular physical. At the time, she had been pulling out large clumps of her fur. I wasn’t sure why, but I became worried when I noticed bald spots around her chest and front paws. As it turns out, it was a nervous reaction due to Patches’ personality and tendency to over-​groom herself.
Dr. Kamaka was incredibly friendly. You can tell she just loves rabbits. She was very patient with Patches too – she’s a wiggler when it comes to getting picked up. Dr. Kamaka checked her weight, her ears, scent glands, teeth, feet, fur, eyes, and nose. Everything was great!
Besides the stellar service and commitment to animals, they also offer installment payments if you are unable to pay for everything up front. I’m planning on getting my rabbits spayed, so this is helpful to me since I am still a student working part-​time.
Come to Dr. Kamaka’s clinic! You won’t be disappointed!

Dr. Kamaka is simply the best. Her compassion, sweet nature and just wonderful attitude show you what a true vet should be in the business for and that’s their love of animals. I also have to give honorable mention to Krissy and Kim her Vet Techs, these girls are just a total joy and pleasure to deal with and talk to! I feel so lucky to have found them.

I have not had the pleasure of visiting Dr. Kamaka’s new digs, as it will take several hours for me to get there. But I will definitely make the trip to see such a wonderful vet.
