All of my sink faucets in my house were leaking and it was driving me crazy. I know what I like when I see it, but I’m not great at picking things out. I was very pleased with the service I got at Custom Security and Hardware. They came to my house to see the sinks and picked out the perfect fixtures and my wife was even happy, which can be difficult. :) I also had a very old secretary that belonged to my grandmother and had a few missing pulls. With the help of the staff, we dug through a box of old pulls and were able to find what we needed. I didn’t think that would happen. I would highly recommend this company for all types of hardware and hard to find items.

The nicest most helpful people! I went in to get something for an elderly friend. The friend had some confusion over a credit card and was struggling with some administrative issues. They were so helpful initially finding the item, and thorough explaining that it wasn’t available, but had a replacement option. But when the friend’s struggles interfered with the purchase, they bent over backwards to help. I can say OLDSCHOOL service all around. I spoke with more than one person here and they were all knowledgeable, attentive, helpful, compassionate(does that still happen in retail? – shocking!), and more. Knock your socks off, but in the way you know that’s just what they do. Stop buying on the internet unless you don’t want to have local options. These folks have to pay rent in one of the highest priced places on earth, and pay a living wage. Maybe you can get something slightly cheaper online, but if you want a human interaction and a place to go, long-run, support our local gems like this place. They won’t be here forever, and you know in your heart, we will miss the place, the people, their knowledge and service! Buy local! Reward this firm’s excellent service by shopping here!

This place is great to find the stock that usually has to be special ordered. I was able to get an antique brass towel bar on the day that we needed to install, with help from the lady on staff. It’s a pretty honest store with fabulous merchandising. Will be back for their other antique-y offerings.

The hours listed are inaccurate. The store is closed on Sundays and Mondays. During the week, they open at 10 am. Please update the site. Thanks.

I went to this store the tuesday before thanksgiving to order two new lock sets to match one I brought, and asked that they be keyed alike, and that the shop re-key my lock to match — I wanted a new key because reasons. I also told them that one set needed a 5″ backset but the other two were standard 2 ¾ or whatever it is. I paid for my order and the lady told me to come back thursday. I reminded her that thursday was thanksgiving, which prompted a confused look, and asked if monday would be better. She agreed. The shop is closed mondays, which I didn’t notice until I came back the following monday to get my locks. I also came back tuesday, wednesday, and thursday. She didn’t remember me, had no idea where my order was, whether it had even come in, or that I had left a lock to be re-keyed — which she had misplaced. I eventually found it by rooting around(without permission) in the back — it had another customer’s name on it, but I recognized it from the ugly paint my dad had smeared on it by being lazy. On Friday, my new locks showed up, and I picked up all three. They do match, and are all keyed the same(huzzah!) BUT they gave me entirely the wrong little extension bit to make the backset work out — it’s for an entirely different brand of lock. Again, unfortunately, I didn’t notice this until Saturday, so in the end it will take a minimum of 2 weeks to get this right, plus however long it takes them to order the right part once I go back on tuesday. The woman who works in the front here is very nice but not good at remembering things or doing them correctly. To be brutally honest, I think she has dementia and that’s really sad but it also makes this business very difficult to work with. One more thing: if there is anyone else in the store when you get there, no one is going to even acknowledge your existence until that transaction is 100% complete, even if that takes half an hour. Seriously, I waited half an hour while the only salesperson in the shop tried to sort out another customer’s order, forgot what they were looking for, gave them the wrong catalog, lost the piece of paper she was writing the order on, etc.

Great for hard to find cabinet door parts. Especially snap on European cabinet hinges, and hinge plates! Efficient knowledgeable service. I was able to buy a replacement plate for my 135 deg cabinet door hinge in 00 mm which solved my overlapping door problem!

I have purchased a deadbolt lock from the operator of this business on at least three occasions and I find her to be pleasant, knowledgeable, and quite direct. Her supply chain moves swiftly, and her prices are in line with the ratio one might expect for a brick and mortar business in this area where rent is higher than near anywhere else.

Tried to go here today to ask about locks for a sliding glass door. Arrived at 4:05 and the lights were out and the doors locked. Door said they are open til 5. Guess someone wanted to go home early.

I want to support local small businesses, I really do. But that means the local business has to do its part — it has to be competent and professional. Unfortunately, that’s not been my experience when ordering new parts from Custom Security. In mid-February, I put down a deposit for 2 passage doorknobs, 6 privacy doorknobs, 2 shower knobs, and 8 decorative knobs. The nice older lady took my order and promised to call me when they arrived. A week later, my partner stopped in, even though the lady had not called. The same lady who took our order told him that our order was put in incorrectly, and only part of the order arrived. Ok, clearly not great service, but he picked up the parts that arrived(2 passage knobs, 4 privacy knobs, 7 decorative knobs), paid another lump sum, and was told to expect a call in a few days when the rest of the order came in. A week went by, and I stopped in just to check up on the order because we had not received a call. The same lady was really confused, and searched all over for the shower knobs and the rest of the doorknobs. She finally told me that my partner must have talked to the other staffer and picked it up the second part of the doorknob order, and that she’d check on why the shower knobs hadn’t come in yet, and give me a call. As I hadn’t spoken to my partner about the order that day, I accepted her excuses and left empty-handed. Because my partner and I work full-time and the shop has limited hours, it’s extremely difficult for us to visit at the same time to clear up the multiple problems with this order without taking time off work. We finally managed to sync up our schedules in mid– April. The woman, while nice, initially tried to tell us that we were mistaken. Then, when we gently jogged her memory a few times, she realized that, no, she had messed up. She reordered the mismatched doorknob, and the shower knobs that day. We found the privacy doorknobs on Amazon for about fifteen less than she charged, so ordered the last two from there. I got my first call from her when this last order came in. To her credit, when she is confronted with a problem and realizes that it really was her issue, she works fast to rectify it. However, something simple like ordering doorknobs should not be a two-month ordeal that requires multiple trips back and forth, and taking time off work. My past experience with Custom Security’s used selection, which they donated when they moved to their current location, had been terrific. While the lady did know knobs, locks, and hinges, I will never order new parts from them again. It’s just not worth the hassle.

I needed a hinge pin for my bathroom door, but Home Depot and Orchard Supply did not have one that fit. Because the door was built over 40 years ago, they didn’t have the sturdy type pins. I was able to go to Custom & Security Hardware(at 2150 Old Middlefield Way, near Rengstorff) and they had it! I was very pleased.

This place is great, especially for someone like me who knows nothing about hardware. One of my cabinet hinges recently broke and my fiancé took it to two different chain hardware stores and couldn’t find a replacement or anyone to help. Not knowing what do to, we found Custom and Security Hardware. We went in and Tammy took care of us. She was so helpful and a delight to work with. She gave us a few different hinges to take home(without charging us for all of them) to see which worked best. We found the correct hinge and returned the others. Custom and Security Hardware will be my first stop if I run in to any other problems like that. They also make keys and carry a large selection cabinet and drawer hardware and high end door knobs and locks. I recommend my in laws to them because they are remodeling their kitchen and they couldn’t be happier with the quality service and products. My suggestion is, come to Custom and Security Hardware first, don’t waste your time at all of the chain hardware stores!

I was not impressed. They special ordered knobs for me, and FIVEWEEKS later called to say they are no longer being made. When I returned to the store a few days later to get a refund, the knob was still up on the display. Some people there were nice, but one was rude. I’ll take my business elsewhere.

This is THE place for anything to do with door locks, deadbolts, latches, etc. The two ladies that manage the shop know just about everything about their business and what’s more, they take the time to patiently walk you through how to fix the problem you are trying to solve in the most economical way. What better compliment to pay someone than to say they pointed out how you can solve hundreds of dollars while achieving what you wanted to, and in situations where they didn’t have what was needed they recommended you to other businesses in the neighborhood. I can’t recommend them highly enough.
